Happy Wednesday! Do tell us what fragrance you're wearing today.
I picked Andrea Maack Coal. Has anyone tried her newer fragrance, Coven?
Reminder: this Friday, 10/31, for Halloween wear your quirkiest or weirdest or spookiest fragrance. The next week, 11/7, we're doing "down the rabbit hole Friday": wear the perfume that turned you into a perfumista (whatever that means to you).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2014, where I'll try to always have the next six or seven weeks mapped out in advance.

Clair des Merveilles -love this for days when I want a second skin salty/beachy fragrance. I find the dry down to just melt into wrists..
I adore that one too.
I’m wearing Bottega Veneta. Unfortunately I’m traveling this week and I don’t think I brought anything spooky for Friday! Maybe I’ll wear something that smells like candy instead.
Candy works!
Ditto for me today on BV. I really really like this fragrance!! I was just wishing for the bath & body products…. It’s so cozy.
SOTD is Prada L’eau Ambree. This is my first time to wear this. I got several minis a few weeks ago, and this was one. I really like it. For some reason I picked this instead of the Eau de Merveilles that I had planned to wear, and thinking about my reasoning, I realized it was because I was wearing shades of brown today. Do the colors you choose to wear impact the choice of the fragrance you put on?
Yep. Colour and/or style. And mood and weather. Or if I’m wearing my work uniform, just mood and weather. (See, I NEED this many to choose from- it’s a fine art! 😉 )
I love L’eau Ambree. And yes, I’d say colour of clothing is one of my top two determinants of scent choice each day (the other being weather). But I’ve been a bit stumped……what scent does Navy evoke? every time I wear Navy blue, I feel a little lost in choosing a scent….. If I had the EDP version of AG’s Nuit Etoilee it might be that, but the EDT doesn’t seem quite right.
Maybe a cool iris? I am wearing a navy blazer today with a purple shirt and FM Iris Poudre. SL Iris silver mist, Hermes Hiris, TDC Bois d’Iris – navy + chilly iris seems like an elegant combo. Not that I’m super elegant today, what with waking up late and just throwing on something acceptable for work 😉
Yes, definitely. I tend to coordinate by my mood, what my day will be like, and what I am wearing. There are only some fragrances that I have really specific feelings about though. For instance, I have a hard time wearing Infusion d’Iris with anything super bright (like cobalt blue or fuscia) but I can wear it with most anything else.
Yes, totally. Color, mood, style, statement and scent all go together – and some days it all just falls into place, and other days not. Thanks for introdcucing the color idea, PriscillaE. To me navy blue can go with Aromatics Elixir – I somehow associate both with efficiency
Absolutely! My fragrance choice today was inspired by my shirt. I’m wearing a light green & white striped shirt and decided to wear Atelier Trefle Pur, which is pale green in color and character.
Yes for some reason, everytime I wear purple I reach for Mon Cherie Pour Camille.
And there’s so much pinkness in perfumeland to go with pink or general girliness in clothing – or sometimes the opposite is nice: wearing something girly smelling with a khaki/white shirt look
Amaranthine today. I adore this stuff. It’s not weird to me at all, and despite the humongous amount of perfumes I have to choose from everyday, this is one I reach for often- it’s just so pretty and happy and a little bit exotic.
Yum. You smell great (and totally not weird).
Yes.
I’d love a quick take on Coal, which is one of those fragrances whose sales description sounds intriguing, but a little hard to imagine whether is successfully realized.
I am wearing Luten’s L’Eau, which in this fall weather seems more minty than usual.
There’s a link to the review above…
Milk of Flowers since it’s my easy go to
I have Antica Farmacista Vaniglia, Bourbon and Mandarin on today. I always get some spice from this one, so it feels nice for this time of year.
I’m in Theorema today. After another week of hot weather, it seems to be cooling down. I’m glad I tracked down a bottle of Theorema – great stuff. Still trying to figure out what to wear on Friday.
Now for some Halloween fun:
What happened when the ghost when into the fog?
He is mist!
Why did the ghost go into the bar?
For the boos!
Ha ha ha lol jokes!
Fun, thanks!
I like silly jokes – thanks! 🙂
Why was the skeleton too scared to trick or treat?
He didn’t have the guts…
(Apologies. Couldn’t help getting into the spirit 😉 )
These are all great! Now I am in the mood for some Laffy Taffy.
Atelier Cologne Grand Neroli here. Weird weather today — a warm, muggy morning is supposed to give way to a cool, rainy afternoon — so I just picked something subtle enough not to grate in either.
Grand Neroli is perfect for that kind of weather. I wore that a lot when it was like that earlier this summer.
Tom Ford Shanghai Lily. I have a whole bunch of new stuff from the swap meet but can’t try it yet because of a cold and not much sense of smell. Figured I’d just wear something I know smells good on me.
Get better soon! (and yes, you smell good)
I’m expecting a rough day so I’m wearing Bois des Iles, sort of a comfort scent.
I haven’t tried anything from Andrea Maack but Coven is such a great name!
Hope it turns out better than you’re expecting!
Scent by Alexis The Poetry of Longing. An awesome, close to the skin chocolate scent, beautiful and calming.
Love that name.
Indeed!
I feel like it’s an Agonist type of day. The Infidels for me!!
Serge Lutens Un Bois Vanille, probably the most ‘normal’ Lutens, certainly the. friendliest and most approachable, because some days you just want to smell friendly and approachable, dammit!
You’re right, UBV is probably the friendliest of the Serges.
Osmanthus by Ormonde Jayne from my discovery set today. It’s a bit too fresh for me right now, but pretty.
I did as Hajusuuri suggested and read Kafkaesque’s review of L’incendiare. I didn’t get quite the same feel for it that she did, but perhaps I just don’t know Fille en Aiguilles well enough. I did definitely get the plumminess that is akin to that in Feminite du Bois, so maybe I just need to mix a bunch of Serges into a Serge stew and see if I come up with L’incendiare 🙂
I think you should do it! Even if it won’t end-up replacing your cravings you’ll have really nice perfumes to wear 😉
Wearing black opium
How do you like this one?
Asked for it at a couple of the dept stores but they didn’t have it in yet.
I quite like it. The first time I tried it I wasn’t liking it and not the second time either. This is the third time and I’m now quite enjoying the coffee and vanilla. It is a little sweet and a little fruity as well though.
I think Macys has it but I could be wrong. My new mainstream love is Bvlgari Man in Black.
Still going through my Amouage samples and wearing Fate again today. I think I like it? It’s starts off so chilly, but then warms up and turns almost gourmand on me. It’s a nice twist, but I’m still debating how I feel about it.
I find it such a relief when I don’t immediately fall for an Amouage (or other expensive lines).
So far, there have been a few from Amouage I’m not in love with. I adore the heart of Dia, but the super soap bubble aldehydic opening is way too much for me. Wasn’t impressed by Ciel nor Opus i either.
It is a relief because that means I don’t have so many MUST HAVE FB NOW on my list 😉
I have had a few dizzying Amouage moments at Dubai airport recently (in transit for a 6 hours stopover)! Bought none, but I sure had some serious nose stuck to wrist/palm/middle arm/inner arm moments!
Do you remember which ones you liked?
I wore Memoir Woman on Sunday just to perk up the day. So gorgeous! I haven’t tried Fate yet.
Memoir is great! I can see why so many like that one.
The new Journey (warm honey to me) and it has elements of the weirdness of the library collection, I felt. Maybe saffron? Then I do love all of the usual suspects: Gold, Dia, Memoir, Jubilation. I enjoyed some of the other newer ones too, like Honour and Fate. Think I appreciate the house’s heavy-handedness, unashamedly saying: now smell this! 🙂 – smooth blends of wellbeing
A couple of spritzes of that new Balenciaga B that I sprayed while out and about. It’s not offensive, but feel like I smelled it a bunch of times before (I could swear or of the Chance flankers is very similar).
Wearing Bottega Veneta EdP. The soft, warm suede just complements the fall weather so well.
Ditto me again- that’s three of us for BV today. I needed something meeting friendly and super cozy for drizzle and brrr. You smell great!
The sunny warmth of the past three days has turned chilly and wet. Memoir Woman is keeping me alert and comfortable, and I have some lovely Lord John Grey tea too.
Memoir Woman is just so amazingly wonderful. I put it on for the first time this fall on Sunday. I was in super happy fragrance heaven all day.
You smell wonderful. Memoir has been one of the favorites out of all the Amouages I’ve sampled.
Stressful work week, so I have been wearing pretty or fortifying scents. Today is FM Iris Poudre. Glad my big presentation will be done on Thursday, so I can enjoy the weird/quirky Friday theme!
Today I am wearing English Pear and Freesia by Jo Malone. I haven’t worn this one in a while and decided to put it on. It is more of a Spring / Summer fragrance IMO, but still smells great this time of year since it is still in the 80’s here in Texas. I wish Fall would hurry up and get here!
English Pear and Freesia is one of my most favorite Jo Malone’s perfumes. I agree that it’s more of a spring/summer perfumes (and not just temperature-related).
I’m wearing Putain des Palaces today. Don’t know why I don’t wear this one more often.
Mmmmm, you smell good. Love that one!
You smell fabulous 🙂
My wearing it last week made me wonder why I didn’t have a fb- so I just got me one with the Parfum1 20% off voucher 🙂 yay!
Ineke Sweet William today, from the swap. I have no idea what the flower smells like, not being of horticultural bent, but this is peach and spices on a woody base. Pretty, but kind of not me, if you know what I mean. Glad I tried it, though.
Sweet William is a single petal flower often called “pinks” – it is normally a perennial but many people grow them as annuals. It is a dianthus plant that is related to carnation. D. chinensis is the single flower variety most people find in the garden center in annual packs, even though it can grow as a perennial if the conditions are right. D. barbatus is a perennial that grows taller and has flowers in clusters and can often be found in the wild in sunny fields. Dianthus/pinks/sweet william, etc. is the carnation family and smells like clove/sweet/cinnamony. Dianthus don’t always smell. Your fragrance sounds very nice!
Thank you so much Ann! I had it in my mind that Sweet William was some kind of flowery ground cover. It’s so nice of you to tell me about it.
Wish it would cool off here so I could wear Sweet William. It’s not really me either, but I got a bottle on clearance and do enjoy it in chilly weather and for office wear. It does not (to me) smell much like any Dianthus I’ve ever sniffed but it is a nice scent.
Breaking open a vintage mini of Nina by Nina Ricci, presumably the old iteration. Sadly I get mostly hairspray, maybe with a trace of scent at the back. Vintage minis are a gamble!
I bought one of those as well – such a pretty bottle, but the aldehydes have turned and it smells like nail polish remover.
If the bottle is transparent and not looking like a red apple it is the original Nina. You are unlucky, I’ve bought quite a few of those minis and they have all been fine. I also got 2 bottles of extrait they turned fairly quickly.
Annick Goutal Ce Soir ou Jamais for me today. A living pink rose warmed by the sun, something I imagine a Downton Abbey gal would wear.
I enjoy Ce Soir ou Jamais, but somehow it translates as dark red to me.
Fun, because I felt like I was cheating and departing from my red weekly theme, but the weather is just too hot to wear Paloma Picasso, lol! So I’m good. 🙂
Huh. It’s totally pink and fuzzy to me. In fact, the first time I smelled it I said “fuzzy kittens in pink ribbons” which is probably what prompted the purchase since I was NOT into perfume at the time. Weird.
Oooh – oh! I love Ce Soir ou Jamais! In the winter I like to layer it with the AG Vanille Exquise. You are right it is very Downton Abbey, but a bit dark, yeah? Color wise it would be the deepest maroon with an iridescent dark purple.
So funny how we smell different colors! Being able to discuss with you guys is a bliss.
Tubéreuse Criminelle to continue my tuberose themed week.
Tubéreuse Criminelle is a good one for Friday!
Yesterday was my anniversary and my lovely husband gave me a huge bottle of Coromandel. I sprayed on a ton and my whole house smells amazing.
Congratulations (both on the anniversary, the thoughtful husband and the beautiful gift :))!
Congratulations! And what a great gift 🙂
Congrats on the anniversary and also the great frag!
Happy anniversary and WOW, what a great gift! Love Coromandel!
Congrats on both your anniversary and lovely gift!
Wonderful gift!
Thanks so much! No one in my “regular” life gets just how cool of a gift it is!
Congratulations on your anniversary, and the wonderful gift and the wonderfully enabling sweet husband 🙂
Today I’m giving Do Son EdP a real test (not like the in-store spritz with a million other things). So far I’m enjoying it a lot more than I expected to – it may be FB worthy – or at least decant worthy!
I’m trying to wear my weird Duchaufours this week but the ones I put on today turned out to be comfortable rather than weird: Eau d’Italie Baume du Doge and L’AP Mechant Loup.
Last night I wore Eau d’Italie Sienne l’Hiver, which is a bit weird, but less so than I remembered. I may go straight for Timbuktu later today.
Ooh Mechant Loup would be a good ideal for Halloween! Or Fou d’Absinthe! L’AP masculines have some really good options…
Apparently I can smell Cashmeran really well, because Mechant Loup just smells warm and cuddly to me, with the slightest hint of traditional masculine notes. I get none of the cement or wet dog that Cashmeran suggests to some noses.
Agree – I wish L’AP were on the men’s fragrance counter in every department store!
Roja Dove Enslaved – densely blended, competent and yes, a little intoxicating. Thoughts on Enslaved?
Have never tried it but now I want to!
SOTD is Atelier Trefle Pur. As mentioned above, I chose my scent today partially because of the color shirt I am wearing – it’s light green and so is Trefle Pur. And of course, it fit the weather too since we are having yet another warm day.
A sample of Hugo Boss’s Boss Ma Vie Pour Femme came in the mail today. It’s well-done for a fresh floral, but I’m pretty maxed out on ‘pretty and inoffensive’ scents in my collection.
I joined the Amouage brigade this morning with Ubar– I drained my decant a month or so ago but a friend swapped her Ubar samples for some samples of my orange/citrus scents. I so way did better! (Me not talk too pretty today….sigh!)
You definitely got the better deal. Ubar is so lovely. Yay for the Amouage brigade!
It’s wonderful
I love Ubar! It’s one of my all-time favorites.
Welcome to the Amouage brigade!
SOTD is Tokyo Milk Kabuki. It’s so bright and fun.
Going back through my Le Labos and re-testing them with the new more is more approach. Cuir 28 today and I can actually smell it this time, but still expect more from a leather Dubai exclusive that costs the Earth.
I have the same feeling about many Le Labo’s perfumes, not only exclusives (even though I like several of their perfumes).
Halloween is just about here in my neck-of-the-woods. I’m very much looking forward to tonight’s local civic orchestra family Halloween concert, music will be an eclectic mix of classical (Liszt’s Mephisto Waltz, Bach’s Fugue in D Minor) and Broadway (Phantom meets Wicked!) – a wonderful event to entice the next generation of concert-goers.
My SOTE will be Ghost Deep Night, their second scent, released in 2001, a spicy/woody mix with a touch of sweet. A fusion of rose and Belle de Nuit, a delicate apricot/peach note and a soft vanilla/musk/woods base, it reminds me of a deeper, sexy, evening version of the original classic Burberry I enjoy so much. And for those of us who enjoy the whole package, the deep purple crescent moon bottle is absolutely gorgeous!
Deep Night is definitely a ‘purple’ scent, the color of a chilly, damp, spooky autumn night!
Wearing A*Men Pure Wood today. It’s finally growing on me!
No 5 Eau Premiere today, with a dress that feels like p.j.s.
Pretty great stuff all around!
SOTD (for the second day in a row) is Naomi Goodsir Or du Serail from a brand-new FB (not just a sample dab). It’s lovely – wood, pipe tobacco, warm apple pie and maybe a hint of coconut – and lasts close to 24 hours on me. This weekend I’m going to try it forearm-to-forearm against Tabac Aurea to see how similar/different they are. Any predictions?
Can’t wait to hear the results of your comparison!
Tabac Aurea is one of my all times faves and I’m not familiar with the Goodsir (which sounds fab, btw). I’m going to root for TA to win the Smackdown!
SOTE Neela Vermeire Mohur Extrait.
SOTD is vintage bal a Versailles in edp form. Needed a skank monster today. Maybe I will wear either De Profundis or Sarrasins.
SOTD is Traversée au Bosphore… gorgeously sunny day but damp & chilly. This makes me feel cozy.
TdB is perfect for fall!
SOTD started off as Black Flower Mexican Vanilla, then this afternoon tested some BK Smoke for the Soul (so far, meh) and now in De Profundis. I like to mix it up I guess 😉
Happy Humpday to All!
SOTD = Serge Lutens De Profundis
The Deva-love and almost late spring-like weather prompted me to spritz away and it is indeed gorgeous – a touch of green to a lovely combination of crisp flower mix (not heady, not indolic, not in-your-face BWF and not perfumey flowery). I will faux-retire my shiny purple atomizer until spring 2015!
Rose Anonyme today. I’ll be draining my little sample soon, but it’s OK, because I got a mini in the swap! BTW, where do we give swap feedback? Both people I traded with were fantastic.
