Nobile 1942 Rudis ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 25 September 2014 12 Comments

Nobile 1942 Rudis

Italian niche line Nobile 1942 has launched Rudis, a new fragrance.

Rudis is the first part of a paradigm shift in the history of Nobile 1942 - a new direction, towards strong, intense and opulent scents - created by the Newcomer of the Year: Antonio Alessandria. The first fragrance of this collection is dedicated to a special characteristic: strength.

"Rudis" was the wooden sword that was used in ancient Rome of gladiators during their training. It was designed in wood and for training purposes and should not cause any injuries. However, "Rudis" was also the symbol of freedom and courage. The sword was a gift that a gladiator got, when he got rid of his status as a slave - as a reward for the bravery he had shown during the battles. "Rudis" is the beginning of "Gladiator career", as well as for the ultimate goal: freedom.

The notes include wine accord, dry fruits, rose, geranium, cedar, leather, patchouli, vetiver and incense.

Nobile 1942 Rudis can be found now at Jovoy Paris in France or Essenze Nobile in Germany, €195 for 75 ml Eau de Parfum.

All I have sniffed from this line is their chocolate scents, which were pretty good.

I know I tried a few of the early ones, but honestly don’t remember a darned thing, even their names.

I agree about the colour- it’s gorgeous! Id be happy to have that bottle on my dresser. The juice doesn’t sound too bad either so will give it a go if I ever get the opportunity to sniff it.

Want the box…and it also sounds like it would smell good, too, though at 195 euro I will not be buying it…

They sound much more expensive than previous releases. Quite recently I have been liking Ambre Nobile which I would certainly classify as opulent…

The notes list made me sit right up and take notice. I really want to try this since I do like their amber perfume, too.

Nobile’s fragrances had been going for $135/100mm. This new one is $235 for $75mm!? They must be using some really outstanding chemicals in this.

Nobile 1942 Ambre Nobile is my favorite amber. It’s listed at $135 for 100 ml on Luckyscent. I don’t care for the silver-accented packaging, which is a bit clunky and all wrong for an amber.

Rudis has wonderful packaging but costs more than twice as much. The most surprising thing is that the definition of a rudis seems to be historically accurate, rather than the usual PR fantasy.

Last saturday I was in Amsterdam at the new location of The Scent Company and we had a meet and greet with Antonio Allesandria who was participating in the making
of this very beautiful perfume by Nobile 1942. It was stunning on the skin and the package is (also) very very beautiful. The inside is leather and smells heavenly. I cannot wait to get my hands on sample(s)
