22 Perfumers / 22 Parfumeurs by Clara Molloy & Carine Soyer ~ perfume book review
The format of the 2007 book 22 Perfumers: a creative process (also published in French as 22 Parfumeurs) is simple: interviews with 22 perfumers, presented in a coffee table format with lots of pictures. The book was the brainchild of Clara Molloy, who founded the niche perfume brand Memo the same year that the book came out.
As the subtitle suggests, the book focuses on the creative aspect of perfume development, but you’ll learn other things about the perfumers in question as well — Michel Almairac loves to cook, Alberto Morillas has “organized his life around a garden”. Each perfumer is presented with different questions, but overall, you’ll get a glimpse into what it’s like to work as a perfumer…
The Monday Mail ~ help Audria find a new perfume
Today we’re helping Audria, who wants to find a new perfume to replace her current favorite, Prada L’Eau Ambrée. When she finished her last bottle, she was told it had been discontinued; she then bought some online but felt her new bottle “had no smell”. Audria would love to find something else understated but not cheap-smelling. Her perfect perfume shouldn’t be too heavy or cloying (she lives in Florida) and preferably won’t smell “like everything else in a department store”. She can spend up to $150.
Audria is in her mid-40s. She loves beautiful designs, beautiful colors and smells, Asia, India, the Middle East, the desert, the jungle, orchids, trees and flowers. She says she loves all things exotic, but also tech and Apple products.
Audria likes woody, more unisex perfumes…
Oriza L. Legrand ~ new fragrances
Niche line Oriza L. Legrand was resurrected in 2012; the line’s origins are complicated but date back to either 1720 and Jean-Louis Fargeon (the subject of The Scented Palace), or 1811, when Louis Legrand purchased formulas from Fargeon’s descendents, or later in the 19th century when Antonin Raynaud bought the house from Legrand and renamed it Oriza L Legrand. Regardless, someone has bought the name and they’ve now got 7 fragrances and another on the way: Chypre Mousse, Oeillet Louis XV, Rêve d’Ossian, Relique d’Amour, Jardins d’Armide, Horizon, Déjà le Printemps and Foin Fraîchement Coupé…
