By Kilian Apple Brandy ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 24 October 2013 21 Comments

By Kilian Apple Brandy

Niche line By Kilian will launch Apple Brandy, a new unisex fragrance that will be exclusive to the brand's upcoming boutique in New York City's Meatpacking district. Brand founder Kilian Hennessy calls Apple Brandy a "bit of a wink to the Big Apple and cognac".

Apple Brandy was developed by perfumer Sidonie Lancesseur; notes feature smoke and oak barrel accords, cedar, labdanum and vanilla.

I will update with size and concentration when I can, but most By Kilian fragrances are in 30 ml travel spray and 50 ml Eau de Parfum, both refillable.

(quote via wwd, additional information via lofficiel.az)

Update ~ Additional notes for By Kilian Apple Brandy include alcohol sugar, ambroxan, and an apple, rum and plum accord.

Another update: Apple Brandy is $235 for 50 ml Eau de Parfum.

It sounds good, but I think even the good By Kilians are kind of overrated. I wore Back to Black today and I wasn’t very moved by it.

Back to Black to me is a very nice, comfort scent, but I agree, not inspiring. At a lower price point, I’d happily own some for when I wanted to feel comfortable and unchallenged by my fragrance. (Granted, I’ve only ever sampled it, so maybe I’m missing something?)

That is true for me too…if the line was way cheaper, I’d own a few. I have not yet found one I thought was worth the price.

You know, it’s odd, but I tend to think of these as a deal, niche-wise. I know they are not a bargain per ml or oz, but if you avoid the silly “luxury bottles”, in Canada at the swanker beauty counters and boutiques they have remained very competitive (compared to the US price) on the travel kits, refill bottles and solids, whereas Frederic Malle and Chanel and Amouage and Serge Lutens all keep going up and up and up. You only get 30 ml in the travel packs and not everybody likes solids, but I am happy to spend around $100 on either in Sweet Redemption or Dangerous Liasons or Beyond Love, rather than $245 on a huge bottle of an FM (that I won’t use all of, anyway) or Une Rose travel kit, which is also 30 ml, at $175 here.

So true…Malle & Lutens have gone way up. I waited & waited for Iris Silver Mist to be available here, but by the time it got here, it was so expensive I wouldn’t buy it. Still, I guess I value those fragrances more? Something about the Kilian line always strikes me as nice, but not THAT nice. Just my taste, of course! I do like a few of them.

Oh, I love Love and Tears. I think it’s worth the price imo.
I don’t care for an apple note though, going to guess it’s in there;). lol.
I really dislike apple, don’t ask me why…it’s up there with pear for me.

Love and Tears is one of Courtney Love’s favorites 🙂

Eventually they find their way into plain ole refill bottles which are a lot more reasonable per ml. I have several of Kilian’s scents….they’re nice…they don’t justify the price tag ….until they get to the refills. 🙂

Love this idea – based on the Big Apple and Kilian’s heritage – cognac!

Yes! Agree, like it better than the concept behind all his “story” collections.

This sounds like something i would love. Why does it have to be exclusive? I wont go to NY for it.

Will be interesting to see if it’s for sale anywhere else, eventually.

I’ve yet to see any line truly remain exclusive….remember when Guerlain had the Desert Trio…only for sale in the Middle East? Yeah, it took a month but then you could order it from Place Vendome and then in another few months there it was at Bergdorf’s and the boutiques. Even Le Labo’s city exclusives now make the rounds to Barney’s and Luckyscent.
Meanwhile….there’s always the possibility of calling the NYC shop ( I happen to know a lovely sales associate there) and buying a bottle over the phone. And I bet it’ll be on the website, eventually.

Just got an email from them a few days ago about three new oud fragrances exclusive to the Mid East… I can’t keep up with all the new releases coming out of this line.

I’d also agree with some of the above comments. I’ve sampled quite a few Kilians back when they sent me samples of almost their entire collection. That’s one thing I do appreciate about them: they’re pretty generous with samples. But not a single one has really grabbed me.

Really, three? I know about 2 of them, but not 3! They’re also going to do an exclusive for their Moscow store…Vodka on the rocks or something like that.
