Roja Parfums Roja ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 3 October 2013 19 Comments

Roja Parfums Roja Parfum Haute LuxeBritish niche line Roja Parfums has launched Roja Parfum Haute Luxe, a new limited edition chypre fragrance:

I made this creation using all the materials I love the most. Having been asked constantly, “what do you wear”, usually followed by, “can I buy it?”, I decided to make a small quantity available each year. — Roja Dove

[...] ROJA Haute Luxe, his latest perfume, was originally created ten years ago in response to his heart’s desire for a “smell for himself”. When the fragrance he had worn for almost thirty years was reformulated, he stopped wearing it. And so began work on ROJA Haute Luxe. It took nine months to create this luxurious amber-tinted, gold-leaf flecked perfume; Roja’s very own secret shimmering bespoke.

Formulated without reference to cost, ROJA Haute Luxe is a perfume created using each of the ingredients Roja loves most to build a deep, rich, resinous chypré that is quite simply the world’s most exquisite Haute Luxe parfum; a fragrance of rarity, refined perfection and unrivalled beauty.

The notes feature bergamot, rose de mai, jasmine, ylang ylang, ginger, clove, cinnamon, oakmoss, vetiver, patchouli, cedar, amyris, vanilla, orris, benzoin, amber, labdanum and storax, plus gold leaf for shimmer.

Roja Parfums Roja is available at Harrods in 100 ml, £2,500.

    I’ll have two!

Would it be cheaper without the gold leaf??

Actually, I think there is something in the press release about 1 per customer — so you’re out of luck, LOL…

Maybe one year he’ll issue it without the shimmer. I personally don’t want shimmer, although I personally am not going to buy it so maybe it doesn’t matter.

I would prefer it without the Kimora Lee Simmons style purple bling cap too.

I haven’t tried a single perfume from Roja Dove own perfume line.
Those prices are not any helpful!

I’ve tried a few in his Harrods shop, but to be honest, I dind’t think any of them worth a purchase. A second try, maybe. It might just be personal, I find his dismissive attitude to other perfumes a bit off-putting (I have seen him once or twice in person!). Of course it ha nothing to do with the quality of the perfumes. I rather liked Diaghilev… but don’t think I’ll buy a bottle.

So clearly, ‘Can I buy it’ didn’t exactly come from the hoi polloi. Looking closer at the price tag maybe the people asking were all billionaire ex wives of billionaire arms merchants? Oh boy. I needed that laugh today.

I love how this brand is not afraid to offer some classical options for the market. That is truly rare. Regrettably for me this is way out of my price range. I wish he had the same philosophy as Estee Lauder on pricing for perfumes!

I do sometimes pop into his Harrods parfumerie when I’m in London, but only to sniff the Nina Ricci fragrances that you can’t find anywhere else – I relive my early 20s when I wore Farouche!

I wonder what Roja’s beloved but reformulated fragrance was. Most likely a Guerlain.
A friend visited his boutique and brought back some blotters with his first three fragrances. I was impressed with them and their quality. We had both met him in the past and loved him. He has a great personality!

wow, what an ugly bottle! it makes me happy for not being rich — at least I don’t have to deal with all this rich-people-ugly-stuff …

hopefully i can go to harrods later today and try it but price wise, i find it a pure gimmick. what is it, a direct contest between him and clive christian for who’s got the most expensive perfume in the world? it’s ridiculous. i do however love a few of his creations, diaghilev and fetish ph being two of them, fetish is actually on my very short to buy list for this Xmas (will wait until they go 10% sale for their card members). also tried the new enigma and it’s fantastic, a very true, accurately recreated cognac accord. i’d be also partial to his vetiver extrait, if, once again, it wasnt’ for those crazy, illogical prices.

My husband bought me the personal consultation with Roja for my bday a couple of years ago. He is charming but it was somewhat disappointing as he uses it to relentlessly flog his own work which are to my nose mostly re-creations of past classics. Enslaved which I have a small bottle of is in fact a ringer for Habanita – side by side with my vintage H it’s almost identical. All in all – for £250 I could have bought myself a few bottles of things I would much rather have in my collection.

Thank you for this info re the RD personal consultation, as it’s something I had thought I might do, but now not so much. Perhaps something similar at Floris or Czech & Speake, if they provide such a service.
