Niche line Puredistance will launch Puredistance Black, a new fragrance, in December:
Puredistance Black is an understated elegant and mysteriously charming perfume inspired by the concept of BLACK; a concept that for centuries has been associated with secrets, mystery and style.
Puredistance BLACK is created in Paris by the famous French Perfumer Antoine Lie based on a concept of Puredistance founder Jan Ewoud Vos. The essence of the concept was to create a perfume that is close to the wearer and releases sensual and elegant scent layers in a whispering way - without shouting. A mysterious fragrance that stays in the shadow, giving away - only every now and then - part of its nature.
Antoine loved the concept and created a sophisticated perfume full of charm with the same elegant personality as the timeless classic Puredistance I, but then more masculine and oriental.
And as a consequence of the concept of BLACK (that treasures the beauty of the unknown) we will not reveal the ingredients of Puredistance BLACK.... Envision, Smell, Feel. Don’t analyse.
Puredistance Black will be available in 17.5, 60 and 100 ml Parfum.
(via press release)
While I’m envisioning, smelling and feeling, can I name my own price?
Hey, that ought to be how it works, right?
Good one! C’mon, we need something to go by to get an idea of what the fragrance is like…
It smells like secrets, whispers and shadows… definitely a skin scent and it probably has that trampoline technology that Lady Gaga Fame perfected which launches different notes at different times – sometimes you will smell secrets.. sometimes you will smell whispers.. etc.
What?! You don’t feel secure that the Nose who gave us both the sweet, very girly Daphne and the infamous Secretions Magnifique and whose idea of masculinity ranges from Tom of Finland to Pi, secret formula will match your taste.
Agree. What if all 1500 fragrances a year did this? It would all be a blind crap shoot and I’d have to give up perfume entirely.
This is a darned expensive brand. Perhaps it only expects to sell to people who sniff it on-site at a suitably expensive store.
I really hope that the ad company didn’t charge them for that copy and if they did, they only paid it because the pitch man was Don Draper (now he’s something dark and mysterious I’d love all over my body . . . . . )
When I saw the picture for this post, I thought, “why is Robin posting about a mascara?” And then I wondered if it was scented mascara, which seemed like an especially odd notion!
LOL! It does look like mascara.
I wish scented mascara WAS an odd notion Marjorie Rose, however my latest Guerlain mascara is rose scented! Yup, right up there with rose scented nail polish (Dior) for some of the all time silliest ideas ever . . . . .
For those romantic moments when your loved one leans in to sniff your eyelids. . . 😀
I mean c’mon . . . . right? Aromachemicals on my eyelids/eyeballs? (It is pretty good mascara tho . . . . 😉
Same here! Looks very much like a mascara. I love to take with me 15 ml or so size of a bottle. They are very handy when traveling but just enough juice to cover your perfume need for 3 days or so.
Robin, I’ve just noticed that there is no entry for Puredistance on the P page of Perfume Houses. Am I looking under the wrong letter?
No, it’s true. There are now MANY smaller niche brands that have no entry — I just can’t keep up. But you can find all the posts by using the Puredistance tag, if that’s any help.
No worries, I can easily navigate the site 🙂
I didn’t realize you weren’t doing them all any more (which is totally understandable) and thought that maybe either I was searching in the wrong place or you deleted an entry by mistake while editing (happened to me on a couple of occasions).
I never really had them all, but at some point I was at least trying. Now, I tend to wait and see if a niche brand is going to have staying power, if you know what I mean, and frankly, there are so many that they’ll never ALL get in there. So many of these brands come and go. Puredistance is frankly already longer lived than many, so in that sense they ought to be in there, but my list of “to do” brands is huge. And life is short 🙂
Robin, I wonder if you are perhaps resisting this brand due to its price, packaging and exclusivist attitude, which would be entirely understandable. On the other hand, I’ve actually liked all the their offerings anyway and would tend to add them to the list and drop one of the more egregious reformulators (yeah, you, Dior) out of spite. (It would be a lot taxing to keep up with Puredistance than Dior, too.)
Oh, hey, I’m not resisting this brand at all in that sense — it’s not a favorite of mine, but there are brands I really like that don’t have entries in the Perfume Houses section. There are also brands that really ought to be in the Perfume Houses section because they’re far more widely distributed than this, and they just aren’t there.
When I created this site, the perfume world was very different than it is now. If I were starting it now, I wouldn’t dare to have a Perfume Houses section at all.
It’s true, it’s a different world – impossible to keep up!
Batteries not included, ahahahaha
Good one! 🙂
I wonder if it will have oud in it …….
Hah!
Maybe they won’t tell us what’s in it because its ingredients are horrific, like crushed puppies and children’s tears, how black would that be?!!
Really!!
Think I’ll try Opardu next and pass on this one. At least they’ll tell me what’s in it. Love I and Antonia is pretty nice too, but I is definitely my fave so far.
The first one is my fav, too. It was hard to decide, though.
I must be completely perverse….I see neither a perfume bottle nor mascara, but something rather…..saucier…..*snicker*
Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.
At 17mls, it would be a rather . . . . um .. . .small…… “cigar”! =o
oh my gosh, my little emoticon symbol didn’t turn out like I thought, supposed to be a shocked face (eeeek).
Yes, a cigarillo! 🙂
I’ve liked all of these, so I’ll probably try this when I have a chance.
I was all set to go to MIN this weekend and sniff this but then I saw it’s being released in Dec. I really don’t see the point of announcing something 4 months ahead of time. I won’t even keep it in my head until I see it reviewed on the blogs
I saw mascara, I didn’t even think it was perfume. I don’t know if there are batteries for that oscilationating lol whatever mascara from Lancome but I don’t want a vibrating mascara!!!
It does indeed look like a sex toy masquerading as a mascara. What were they thinking. It whispers, without shouting…well isn’t that kinda how whispering works?
It probably just smells like Chantilly Black Lace 😛
Tampon holder.
