Floris Malmaison Encore ~ new perfume

Posted by Robin on 20 June 2013 11 Comments

Floris Malmaison Encore

British perfume house Floris has launched Malmaison Encore, a new addition to their Bespoke Perfumery series. Malmaison Encore is a new version of the discontinued Malmaison fragrance.

"Since the introduction of the By Request service one fragrance has been requested more than any other – Malmaison.

Today the palette of ingredients available to the perfumer no longer permits the fragrance to be re-instated.

I have to admit to being a fervent admirer of the original, intensely carnation accord at its heart. So, it was with some trepidation that I sought to recapture the spirit and emotions that this fragrance embodied.

After several trials and with the essential guidance of fellow Malmaison advocates and the Floris family I am delighted to announce the arrival of: Malmaison Encore.

A fragrance for today built on memories of the past."

- Shelagh Foyle

The notes feature bergamot, black pepper, cardamom, clove, nutmeg, rose, ylang ylang, amber, cedarwood, frankincense, heliotrope, tonka bean and vanilla.

Floris Malmaison Encore is available in 100 ml Eau de Parfum, £139.

Props for being totally upfront about this not being a replacement/reissue of the beautiful original for reasons most of us have sadly come to terms with. Sounds lovely anyway, look forward to sniffing.

Totally agree — love that they gave it a new name, too.

Regardless of what it may smell like compared to the new version, it’s nice to hear someone from a perfume house actually be sympathetic to the fans of the original and bear it in mind when creating a restriction friendly variation.

This does sound nice but want to sniff the original, a big carnation note always gets my interest.

It was a lovely scent, real shame it is gone.

Agree with all about how nice it is that they’re acknowledging the fiasco that is IFRA, and not trying to claim this is a perfect reproduction .

I adored the original, and will be trying this one. Have not been impressed so far with the attempts at carnation post-IFRA, though.

This sounds like it will be lovely in its own right. Nice to know they listen to their audience as well as have transparency. I never smelled the original, so I’ll be a nice fresh customer for them!

I know I shouldn’t get too excited before trying this new one, but oh, my hopes are high!… The original was indeed gorgeous.
