Amouage Fate ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 18 June 2013 28 Comments

Amouage Fate

Amouage has launched Fate, new fragrances for men and women:

In the final creation that expresses the end of the first cycle of the Amouage narrative, “Fate” for man and woman explores the uncertainty of the future and the universal principal by which the order of things is inescapably prescribed. In his latest conquest, Amouage Creative Director Christopher Chong proclaims a finale that parodies the force of the inevitable, veiled in the mysticism of the unknown.

Fate for Woman ~ "With a floral heart deepened by a dark and destructive accord, resonating the tumult of the unknown, Fate for woman opens with spicy accords to set a mysterious mood of the unexpected. The base features a rich and forceful blend of Frankincense, Oakmoss and Leather." Additional notes for the oriental chypre include bergamot, cinnamon, chilli, pepper rose, narcissus, jasmine, labdanum, vanilla, frankincense, benzoin, castoreum and patchouli. Available in 50 ($310) and 100 ($375) ml.

Fate for Man ~ "Fate for man first creates a sense of beginning with fresh notes of Citrus, Absinth and sharp Ginger which pervades to a predestined heart of Rose and Frankincense. The woody accord in the base of Cedarwood, Sandalwood, Musk, Liquorice and Tonka Bean adds a haunting intensity of uncertainty." Additional notes for the spicy woods fragrance include mandarin, saffron, cumin, everlasting flower, lavandin, cistus, copahu and labdanum. Available in 50 ($280) and 100 ($340) ml.

(via press release)

Update: Fate Woman was developed by perfumer Dorothée Piot; Fate Man by Karine Vinchon Spehner.

I hope the scent is as amazing as those iridescent bottles! I’m eagerly awaiting some small decants which are in transit!

Really looking forward to trying these. I see Piot also created Memoir Woman and that was the most recent Amouage that I liked (I don’t remember Beloved all that well).

I confess I am still stuck on the Jubilations…some of the newer ones have been quite nice, but those are the last ones I was dying to own. And would take both of them :-)

I will give these a sniff. They sound good.

Does anyone else see this? …

The way the hand / fingers in that image are placed, looks like it’s flipping us the bird… and that is emphasized with a butterfly gracefully attached to the middle finger.

Yes, but it’s a very graceful “bird!” :)

Does anyone have any information about why the Attars have all recently been discontinued or withdrawn from sale? All of the boutiques here ( I live in the UAE ) have told me that they were told to send back the attar range, but that’s all they know. When I emailed the website customer service to enquire, I received no reply – which displeases me almost as much as the withdrawn attars!!

I’m so sorry but I don’t know — I had thought they were all limited edition, but that doesn’t really answer your question.

Well, I for one, really hope I hate these. Honestly, 2 Amouages in my collection should be enough! Really quite rude of them to make them sound so tempting! Poor customer service. . .

Overblown ad copy aside, these do sound great. Seems to me, however, that Amouage is releasing new fragrances at a rather alarming rate. Makes me wonder if they will be able to maintain their quality….

I don’t think they do release new fragrances at alarming rate. So far we had Beloved Man to keep company Beloved Woman and Opus VII. Fate Woman and Man are the standard duo they release every year. Four so far. I would actually expect them to release something special as its their 30th anniversary this year :-)
Similarly last year we had Opus VI, Beloved Woman and Interlude (Man and Woman). Again four fragrances a year.
How does that compare to other niche houses having three, four releases in one go? :-)
But I’m biased – I just love Amouage: their perfumes and the stories accompanying them, the fact that they have concept for their scents, their ability to be different, courage to challenge where so many just follow the ‘pink trend’ or the ‘oud trend’ or ant other fashion.

I’m definitely going to try this. I love Memoir Woman (also by Piot) and adore her fragrances for Jul et Mad. And I saw a picture of the outer packaging as well, gorgeous….

Add this to Dia, Ubar, and Opus Vi. Opus IV is unbelievable. It’s my favorite perfume. In a few days I managed to use a 1/5 of the bottle EASY NOW

I’m really behind in the Amouage department. I think the only one I’ve tried is Jubilation 25, which I really liked. The notes on these do sound nice, though for that price they would really have to rock my world. The copy is ridiculous. When I read the part about the “predestined” rose and frankincense it made me laugh.

Rose and frankincense would be the ‘predestined heart’ of an Amouage – or, more to the point, the predictable heart of an Amouage!

I nominate this as the most preposterous verbiage:

Amouage Creative Director Christopher Chong proclaims a finale that parodies the force of the inevitable, veiled in the mysticism of the unknown.

      Amen.

Predestined? Actually chunks of the whole ad make me think we may have here the first Calvinist perfume. Now there’s something different!

Imagine that you are in a dry, tropical country. Someplace like Egypt. You wake up in the morning, put on your moisturiser and tanning lotion. You go to the beach. You spend your day sunbathing, swimming, you play with sand and water. Your skin catches sunshine. You reapply your sunbathing lotion, maybe even some oil, just to give your skin that extra glow. You swim again. You build a sand castle. And then after few hours you go back to your apartment and just before you shower you sniff your skin. And you can literally smell the sun, and the sea water, and that body lotion or oil, you smell hot sand and the unnoticeable sea breeze, you smell your sweat, or maybe that’s just the sea water? That’s how Fate smells like. It’s incredibly warm. Very close to the skin but at the same time its got good projection. It somehow seems to be dry. I like it a lot.

Please do and let me know what you think. I live in London and found it in their shop. And by the way: I did indeed take me back to my summer holidays in Egypt five years ago, but after a while I got tired of that smell – it was just to much, too warm, too sunny, to lotiony…
