Parfums de Nicolai Eau sOleil ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 16 May 2013 25 Comments

Parfums de Nicolai Eau sOleil

French niche brand Parfums de Nicolaï has launched Eau sOleil, a new summer fragrance intended as an "homage to the essence of orange flower, called neroli".

Eau sOleil is described as "almost pure neroli"; additional notes include bergamot, lemon, sagebrush, jasmine and ylang ylang.

Parfums de Nicolaï Eau sOleil is available in 30 and 100 ml.

must try! And looks like the 100 ml bottle is a larger version of the rectangular shape? Better looking than the 100 ml version of some of their other scents.

They generally use that bottle for the unisex & men’s scents, I think.

I agree about the bottle! Now, is this about neroli or orange blossom? I’m not sure if I get mixed up with these two or if all the others do.

      This one is neroli.

Then it’s a must-avoid for me. LOL! Love orange blossom; can’t stand neroli.

Sure, I’ll bite. Intrigued by the sagebrush, since that was the dominant flora of my childhood hometown in northeastern Wyoming. None of the Nicolais have worked for me so far, but it’s not like they’re expensive to sample.

I love that smell, & hope it is not really clary sage + a bad translation.

It *is* sagebrush (armoise in French).

This sounds like a “must try” for me. I’m always looking for something that works in hot weather, and I’ve had great luck with this line.

It’s a great line, & love the 30 ml bottles.

It sounds nice. Will probably try it. I’ve been wanting a good neroli but I haven’t found one yet. I really like Atelier Cologne’s neroli but it lasts like 5 minutes. Maybe this one will fare better. And PdN’s 30ml bottles tend to be pretty inexpensive too.

Yes, the prices are very tempting. Hope we don’t wait forever for these to get to the US.

I really want to like this line because it is supposed to be high quality and is just so un-pretentious; not to mention the reasonable prices.

I liked my dabber of Fig Tea at first but then it started to seem wan next to other (fruity) tea frags like Osmanthus Interdite.
Odalique is too bitter for me.
Kiss Me Tender gives me this strange impression of fluoride (the kind the dentist puts in your mouth???)
And Weekend, which I think I liked the most is turning out a little too saline, after all:(

Keep trying! Le Temps d’Une Fete is the great achievement of the house – it really is very, very good. Sacrebleu is beautiful – warm and blanket-y but not too sweet. Number One is a restrained white floral with tuberose notable but not dominant. Maharani is full of hot and colourful spices.

Thanks for the encouragement. A friend is going to Paris soon and I am thinking of ‘ordering’ a small bottle of Le Temp’s d’une fete unsniffed. I also have a sample of Sacrebleu and Number One on its way. Leau’Mixte is another one that sounded interesting, but for some reason I don’t see it on the site?

Oh, and I’m hopefully getting a sample of Vanille Tonka too:)

I think I have a sample of that on the way too. And Juste un Reve, the coconut one I think. I really like the Nicolai line but the website is pretty ordinary, and I do sort of wish they would go with EDT and EDP rather than ordinary and ‘intense’.

People don’t talk so much about the intense versions. Have you tried the originals and intenses of Sacrebleu. What do you think?

Hi Merlin, no, I’ve only tried the Intense version of Sacrebleu, and that is the only version available on the Nicolai site and Luckyscent. Maybe the original has been d/c. The Intense is strongish, and lasts most of the day on me.

I’ll give is one a go too. I love Annick Goutal’s Neroli but am still a bit confused as to whether the re-released cologne version is weaker than the EDT, which did not last too well on my skin. And I’m sure that PdN’s Neroli will be a lot less expensive. Silly name though – ‘sOleil’. Why not call it ‘Neroli de Soleil’. That is at least tad less stupid.

O = Eau, as in “O de Lancôme” … still stupid maybe?

Looking forward to this, as I am a die-hard orange blossom and neroli ho. It sounds lovely.

Neroli is orange blossom is neroli etc Its the same! I’m a qualified aromatherpist and they are one and the same. Very heady anyway…
