Strange Invisible Perfumes Likewise & The Rose With The Broken Neck ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 18 April 2013 20 Comments

Strange Invisible Perfumes flacon

Indie botanical brand Strange Invisible Perfumes has introduced two limited edition fragrances for Spring 2013, Likewise and The Rose With The Broken Neck.

Likewise ~ "A shy, yet amorous reply to a declaration of love or devotion." With vanilla, rose, grapefruit, ambrette, black copal, jasmine, neroli, vetiver, ginger and cistus.

The Rose With The Broken Neck ~ presumably named for the Danger Mouse song, with rose, vanilla, nutmeg, palo santo, vetiver and white cognac.

I do not know prices or sizes; the fragrances are exclusive to the Strange Invisible Perfumes boutique in Venice, CA.

(via siperfumes)

Update: The Rose With The Broken Neck is $350 for 50 ml Eau de Parfum.

“The Rose with the Broken Neck” is a TERRIBLE name for a fragrance. I can’t even imagine wearing it.

And “palo santo” is just a fancypants name for guaiac wood. I’m surprised they didn’t call jasmine “gelsomino” or nutmeg “myristica absolute”.

I have to agree. I can’t stop thinking “what’s next, the Grace with a Broken Ankle fragrance?”

Really? Maybe I like it because I like the lyrics to the song.

Probably,”The rose with the broken neck” is not a good name
suitable for a fragrance but the song is beautiful
and I also like the lyrics of
        Brian Burton (Danger Mouse) .
I did not know this song so,thanks for the link :)

I guess. It’s a small scale limited edition, so doesn’t seem like such a terrible idea to me.

I don’t know the song and I’ll take your word for it that the lyrics are great, but it just seems like such an awful name for a fragrance (I can’t imagine telling someone that’s what I’m wearing). Like “My Bloody Valentine” is a good name for a band (or a 1980s horror movie) but a bad name for a scent.

I found the name intriguing and it made wonder about the notes (I love dark roses)..And now, thanks to you Robin- I am addicted to the song..It is the perfect accompaniment to the Shalimar on my wrist and dull yellow-lit room..

I don’t know the song but I love that name! It reminds me of one of H.C. Anderson’s more heartbreaking tales.

Perhaps we both have a soft spot for tragedy! What could be more poignant than a rose with a broken neck?

Actually reminds me of ‘The Nightingale’, one of Oscar Wilde’s stories. An all too altruistic nightingale dies by pricking its breast on the thorn of a rose in order to dye the rose red. It dies for a student who needs a red rose to give to his love. But a rich man has already given her an expensive ring and so she tosses the rose to the ground –

There ought to be a perfume called The Nightingale!

My 3 years old watches Cinderella every evening, and the Nightingale will forever remind me of the awful stepsisters’ singing practice!

$350?! That’s Amouage pricing. Seem to be suffereing from sticker shock today…

Yes — they’re an expensive line. They do a lot of their own distilling.

I suspect my husband would break my neck if I spent $350 on 50 ml of anything:p

I got their Fire and Cream on the las swapmeet here, and I absolutely adore it. Quality stuff, beautifully done, totally worth the price, me thinks.

Maybe because I was such a The Cure fan in the 80’s, but I really like ‘The rose with a broken neck’. It sounds so dark!

First I have to say $350 for 50ml is A LOT of money.

With that said – I purchased a sample of it and the scent is amazing. It is a perfect mix of rose and incense, and interestingly, the perfume has a “dry” champagne quality to my hose. My only complain is that it faded quickly, but then again I don’t know how much of it is due to me using very very little on my skin now.
