Bunch o’ limited edition collector bottles 2013, part 3

Posted by Robin on 13 February 2013 16 Comments

More limited edition collector fragrance bottles, with the usual disclaimers: in most of these cases, the juice is unchanged, just the bottle is “special” (or not, as the case may be), and some of these may not be available in the US.

Estee Lauder Youth Dew 60th anniversary

From Estee Lauder, Youth Dew in the 60th anniversary limited edition, "featuring a luxurious crystal encrusted, golden metalized bow for the perfect touch of elegance." 67 ml for $50, to debut at Belk in mid-March. (via happi)

Cartier, Must de Cartier

From Cartier, Must de Cartier in an "exotic" refillable brushed bronze case. 50 ml, $200 at Neiman Marcus.

No lemmings, I thought of an air/room freshener when I saw the Cartier. I do really like Must though! Great scent!

I have no lemmings here either, which is unusual for me. I do think that solid is pretty.

I can understand some of the strategy behind most. It is usually the successful ones that have the limited editions. But Galliano??!!

I can only assume that scent is still selling, since they just had a flanker for it too.

You know what would be cool? If EL did a special extrait version of Youth Dew for its anniversary, similar to what Clinique did with Aromatics Elixir Perfumer’s Reserve. In a fabulous bottle, of course. I know that EL owns Clinique, so perhaps this isn’t *totally* outside the realm of possibility? Maybe?

I gathered from the Awful Fragrances poll that Youth Dew has plenty of non-fans, but I love the stuff. And maybe a special-edition YD extrait could do for that fragrance what the Perfumer’s Reserve extrait did for AE — make it a bit more palatable to contemporary sensibilities, while respecting what made the original great (IMHO, at least).

I was sort of surprised this was all they did for a 60th anniversary myself…

Oh, I like that idea! I’m a fan of YD, too, but I’d absolutely try a somewhat modernized parfum or other special edition. That is, if they made an effort to keep the feel of the original.

I guess they kind of did that several years ago with Tom Ford Youth Dew Amber Nude, though, right?

Houbigant! I didn’t know they were still in business. Any hope that they can re-release Chantilly in close to it’s original form? I guess I can wish…

A different company owns the right to Fougere Royal & Quelques Fleurs and the other older Houbigants like Chantilly. Right now, Dana Classics holds the rights to Chantilly, and they do still make it, but as a mass market perfume. Have not smelled it, but not likely it has retained all of its former glory so to speak.

Actually, I did buy a bottle of the Dana Chantilly a couple of years ago. It was made in Pennsylvania, I think. Sadly, for me, it was nothing like the original that was my favorite years ago. Like drinking flat gingerale when craving Dom Perignon.
Last Christmas I saw it again at a mass retailer, and saw that it was now made in China, but didn’t consider buying it even though it probably has a new iteration in formulation.
Somewhere a perfumer has to be producing a scent with that wonderful drydown — if only I could find it!

I love it too! I had headbands with the ribbon and gold buckle. My shoes were pre-ribbon look — open toed 3-inch high sandals with basket weave leather straps. The soles look like the Doc Martens striped soles (but much taller than the Doc Martens).

Does anyone know where to get the Ferragamo solid perfume compact in the US? I would dearly love to purchase it. I had some Ferragamo bow shoes as a hand-me-down, and when I had foot surgery I was limited to wearing slippers everywhere. So, I did what any other fashion-minded lady would do when faced with wearing -gasp- slippers in public. I took the Dearforms and hot-glued the Ferragamo bow to the front. Those were the most chic looking slippers I ever owned!:-)

My guess would be that if anyone is going to get it, it would be Nordstrom — might be worth giving them a call and leaving your name & number in case they ever get it in stock.
