Marchesa Parfum d’Extase ~ fragrance review
Perfume has mystique. It’s supposed to add a powerful but invisible allure, they say. Men should feel faint in your sillage. A whiff of your fragrance should call you to mind, eyes cast seductively aside and all.1 Given the hype, I understand why so many new launches are for whopper fragrances with “sexy” stamped all over their branding. (Whether you actually find any of it sexy is another matter.)
Fortunately, Marchesa Parfum d’Extase takes a more subtle approach, and for that alone it’s worth smelling. Despite its ambitious name, Parfum d’Extase is delicate, fresh, and old fashioned. If you’re looking for purple fruit, heavy musk, patchouli, and gardenia, move along. There’s nothing for you here…

Some vintage perfume bottle porn: an 18+ minute slideshow of a visit to the Museu del Perfum in Barcelona. Prepare to drool. Props to Leah Lefevre, who has some other perfume-related slideshows on Youtube as well.
The Monday Mail ~ help Jennifer find a new perfume
This week we’re helping Jennifer, who wants to find a fragrance that will make her think, that changes over time, and is distinctive but polite in company. She can pay up to $100, and while she doesn’t have great local access to perfume stores (just Sephora and Macy’s), she’s willing to shop online. Here is what we know about Jennifer:
She works part-time for an online bookstore.
She’s in her mid-30s and has two young children whose curiosity keeps her pretty busy.
She says she is a quiet, stealth-weirdo. She’s also really nice with a tiny dark side, friendly but shy, goofy, introspective, curious, bubbly, articulate, talkative, and creative and with a critical eye.
She adores nature and speaks Japanese and German, and she is learning French.
One of her most interesting scent-experiences was interacting with a former co-worker, who would tell her what people smelled like naturally (“she has a library-like smell” or “She has a dry, campfire smell.”)
Jennifer likes earthy, leather, anything on fire (candles, incense, cigarettes, pipe-smoke, bonfire), herbal-y or outdoorsy…
