Naomi Goodsir Cuir Velours & Bois d’Ascese ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 26 October 2012 10 Comments

Naomi Goodsir Cuir Velours

Australian designer Naomi Goodsir has launched two fragrances, Cuir Velours and Bois d'Ascese. Both fragrances were developed by perfumer Julien Rasquinet.

Cuir Velours (shown) ~ An oriental leather. "VELVET skin , a GLOVED hand, SOUVENIR d’une FLEUR d’IMMORTELLE, stems of TOBACCO & rum, fortuitous RENCONTRE.  A deep & textured perfume, that evocatively encases the skin like soft velvet suede. A tobacco atmosphere supported by notes of rum, cistus labdanum, incense & fleur d’immortelle."

Bois d'Ascese ~ A woody incense. "A secluded CHAPEL, BLAZING dusk, moment of GRACE, DIVINE smoke, silent CANTIQUE. Incense woody (2012) A captivating & reassuring smoke. Notes of tobacco & whisky, are supported by cinnamon, amber & cistus labdanum. Oakmoss, smoked cade wood, almost burnt, prolong the Somalian incense with power & elegance."

Naomi Goodsir Cuir Velours and Bois d'Ascese are available in 50 ml Eau de Parfum, and can be found now at Luckyscent, $150 each.

I’ve seen those bottles on the pictures from my local niche perfumery owners after they returned from Pitti 10 in Florence.

Now I’m wondering if they decided on collaboration with Naomi Goodsir or not. Future will show soon enough if her perfume bottles will appear in Poland or not.

More cuir to try! Although they both sound very good, I think I’m going to go with Boxeuses this time for the leather scent I’ve been wanting to buy. They both look very promising though.

They really do both sound nice…I’m after that incense, of course!

I had the pleasure of trying Cuir. I almost felt a sense of relief when I smelt the opening. I thought it was great, but not outstanding which meant that I didn’t need to add this to my wish list. But unfortunately for me, the drydown is pretty spectacular! The combination of labdanum and leather = Want!

I tried the Bois, and was quite disappointed. It’s full of the “spiky wood” that’s now endemic-and that seems to drive my sinuses wild. I am unable to wear many newer formulations, and am sad to not find another incense scent.

Another thanks — good to hear “live” reports from the field :-)

I just received Cuir Velour. I t transitions nicely through the layers to a subtle yes aromatic finish. The dry-down does have a warm smoky/incense/rum/tobacco leaf finish. It is easy to think that the fragrance is almost gone but, with sort of fragrance, “I have always depended on the kindness of strangers” to tell me whether it is noticeable before reapplying another layer and affecting everyone else’s vision. It does have decent longevity. It is a very masculine scent on me but a woman’s chemistry might produce an entirely different effect. I find it very seductive and addictive and different from others that I have tried.
