Memo Luxor Oud ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 24 October 2012 9 Comments

Memo Luxor Oud

French niche line Memo has launched Luxor Oud, a new fragrance:

Memo’s fragrance Luxor Oud is also known as "Oud of the Pharaohs" and has been created to pay homage to the glorious era of ancient Egypt and its monumental architecture.

"Time stands still at the gateway of Luxor, humanity’s oldest prayer site. On the banks of the Nile, the stifling heat makes me feel lethargic while crocodiles slide gently over the sand under the penetrating gaze of the Sphinx.

I walk towards the age-old shade of the Colossus of Ramses II. The temple stones seem to vibrate in splendor and the roses sigh in the torpid heat. Luxor Oud: an oasis of roses and fruit overflowing with freshness and sensuality in the country of greatness and majesty. The marriage of wood and rose under Pharaoh’s whip and scepter."

Luxor Oud was developed by perfumer Aliénor Massenet; notes include tangerine, red fruits, rose, labdanum, nagarmotha, patchouli, storax, tonka bean and agarwood.

Memo Luxor Oud is available now at First in Fragrance in Germany, in 75 ml Eau de Parfum, €125.

I am a sucker for all things Ancient Egyptian so I will at least have to sample this. Bottle looks meh- why on earth is it not pyramidical?? Seems only fitting and if done well could be stunning!

That’s the brand’s standard bottle…they do change the outer design but that’s it. You’re right, that would be cool.

I actually love the design of the Memo bottles. Classy and modern. Heavy glass with a plate attached to the front decorated with artwork appropriate to the fragrance. I only have one at the moment (Shams) but am tempted by both this one and Quartier Latin. If I could afford it I would love to have several of these lined up in my closet

I really liked the one for Quartier Latin too:

WHich Luxor is this perfume supposed to be.

The Luxor, in Africa, despite the presence of theNile, is a very hot dry place. Is there really an oasis of roses in that “stifling heat” and sand there?

As for those Nile crocs, they apparently snort water out of their nostrils as a mating call, perhaps to demonstrate their contempt for too many oud based scents. According to wikipedia, these NIle crocsare do not elegantly slither but gallop on solid ground, most ly at night by lying in ambush near forest trails or roadsides, up to 170 feet from the water’s edge.

On the other hand, the Luxor in Las Vegas, has plenty of slithering croc skinned predators*, who often wear exotic perfumes at night. The Las Vegas Luxor probably even has an oasis of roses in its gift shop as well.
    * or at least wear shoes and bags of leather embossed to look like croc skins.

Ha…I have a soft spot for Vegas — I’d buy a Vegas Luxor scent :-)
