Hope you've been tallying those receipts! Donatella Versace, Our Lady of Scented Abundance,1 wants to know what you bought in the 3rd quarter (July, August and September) of 2012.
Update: the poll is now closed!
My purchases?
I bought nothing. My 'to buy' list is as long as ever, but my existing collection is also as big as ever. I've been dithering over which items I really need, and waiting for a really great sale, and the longer I dither and wait, the better. So, my grand total for 2012 so far is still what it was at the end of the second quarter: $202.
As always, report your purchases in the comments if you dare! And as always, we don’t include samples or gifts, and you can count miniatures, decants and bottle-splits howsoever you like (I usually count them as half bottles).
1. Why does Donatella host (against her will, mind you) the damage polls? There is no real reason other than the picture of her perfume collection, which shows that she indulges regularly at the perfume counter. The image, by the way, is originally from Allure magazine and appears here courtesy of Blogdorf Goodman.
Oh dear. I’ve gotten very bad at keeping up with my expenditures and no longer remember to note them in my Excel file. Glad Paypal keeps a history.
Total bottle bucks this quarter, $199. I bought nothing, er, NEW. I did buy two dear loves, secondhand, from people who were purging their collection, oddly enough both de Nicolais:
Le Temps d’une Fete, the older version, a 50ml bottle maybe 75% full, $62. Last quarter I bought a full bottle and was sorely disappointed to find that LTdF has been reformulated. Since this is one of my Top Three Of All Time, I was very very happy about my luck.
Vanille Tonka, 30ml bottle about 60% full, $32. I drained my 10ml decant, one of the first niche splits I ever bought, recently, and since I still love VT I wanted my own bottle.
Also bought more splits and a mini bottle or two:
5ml Une Voix Noire (hasn’t arrived yet), $19
5ml Nina Ricci Eau de Coeur Joie (rare vintage), $18
5ml Tom Ford Jardin Noir Ombre de Hyacinth, $16
5ml Revlon Scoundrel parfum mini, $15
7ml vintage Madame Rochas parfum, $10
Tiny 2ml sample of older (1990s) Mitsouko parfum in that pretty presentation box, $27 (ouch. But it’s more expensive per ml at the decanters. And I finally *get* Mitsouko. Still don’t love it, but I get it.)
And bought a 20ml bottle of vintage Femme for $16, which it turned out that I did not like at all, and I passed it on to a friend for slightly less, so that was a wash. (I’d also like to divest myself of the Mme Rochas and the Mitsy, for slightly less than I paid for them, so if anyone in the US wants to contact me about that, please do.)
Congrats on the “vintage” Temps…I’ve been wondering about Vie de Chateau, which is still on my buy list but has probably been reformulated too.
Mals, unbeknownst to you, you have saved me from many an unloved purchase. You and I are ESTs, and if you rave about something, I can safely cross it off my list.
I’d be happy to return the favor, my dear. i.e. I could have told you that you’d never love that Femme or the Mitsouko. 😉
You are an awesome EST, D!
It was funny – I rather liked modern Femme, but the vintage… just, just NO. NO. I could tell it was in good shape, but all wrong for me. And finally understanding Mitsy was a worthwhile endeavor, especially since I love Coty Chypre so much. I might actually manage to wear the Mitsouko at some point, but I figure that it really should go somewhere it would be loved instead of tolerated.
I just realized that my 2012 cumulative total is $457. I’ve had worse years.
But I was also really bad about ordering samples in the third quarter, too. I don’t even want to TALK about that… except to say that the 1.5ml sample of vintage Coty Chypre parfum was completely worth every single penny I paid for it (about 7600 of them, OUCH!! but hey, it was a lot cheaper than a ticket to Paris to visit the Osmotheque). Gorrrgeous stuff.
It’s funny how you think you are being so good and then you add up the total spent on samples. Boy those little vials add up fast. All things considered you got some good buys. Too bad some didn’t work for you though.
Poodle, I haven’t forgiven you!!!! Where are your good sins? lol.
I have confessed the sins I remember way down the post. I have no willpower. Sure I can avoid online purchases but I’ve never met a clearance rack I didn’t like.
You were not as bad as you thought! I won’t confess mines! I preffer to burn in the purgatory of perfumaniacs. 🙂
I can track some things on Paypal, but not TJ Maxx stuff. I’m always forgetting what I’ve bought! =/
Really jealous of your Voix Noire decant right now.
I DON’T EVEN HAVE THE UVN YET!!!
Pant pant… whew. The split host doesn’t even have it yet – waiting for it to clear customs, I think (he’s in the UK). Gah, where is that paper bag… I’m hyperventilating…
There’s just no way this is going to end happily. Every time I get excited about something new, it fails to live up to my expectations. Iris Ookie Celery Disaster, anyone??
Deep breaths Mals. It’s going to be okay. Deep breaths.
I wonder if UVN will be available at Barneys NYC midtown? I’ll need to check it out the next time I’m there. It is too tempting…just a subway ride away.
A few times this quarter, I’ve congratulated myself on not buying ANYTHING! I think for the first time since I began participating in these damage polls. And then…. (you know where this is going), I received a Caron sample in the Swap Meet, loved it and that sent me investigating other Carons. Long story short, I forgot my vow not to buy any perfume, and I ended up buying a small bottle of vintage Infini. Fabulous stuff and it was a great deal on the ‘bay.
Yay for the “great deal”!
LOL! I’m a sucker for it every time! $15 shipped! 🙂
Considering the cost of shipping charges these days, that’s awfully good. 🙂
You know, it’s easier to just “forget” to buy (for me, I mean!), or to not be able to decide between 2 scents, then to set out not to buy.
So true… I also do well telling myself I’ll buy it at some point in the future.
See, you have to factor in the opportunity cost of NOT taking advantage of great deals on the ‘Bay. Who knows if that Infini would have come along at that price again? By spending that $15, you might well have saved yourself money in the long run.
I love your reasoning! You are a genius!
Emily is so right.
Infini was my signature perfume from when I was 14 until well into my 30s. I loved it. But the bottles now (bubbled looking glass numbers) just don’t do it for me. I assume reformulation. Do you happen to know what vintage yours is? I think it came out in the early 70s, and that’s when I got mine. It was SO beautiful! I hope you get enormous pleasure from it!
It’s been reformulated a bunch of times unfortunately. I wore the extrait/parfum when in came out too, and the vintage parfum de toilette that I have is from the early 90’s(I *think*) – not nearly as good in my opinion. The plus side is that prices for the vintage arent bad at all!
Not a bubbled bottle – thankfully! I’ve got the parfum de toilette in a ribbed glass bottle. Since I’m new to Caron, I love it!
Congrats, you smell yummy!
Nothing! But … I have my first SErge Lutens sitting in a virtual shopping basket at FragranceNet (only $85 with their 15% off coupon!), so I might be about to fall off the wagon in a big way.
Which Serge??
Five O’Clock au Gingembre — it seemed to hit the sweet spot between “typical of the house” and “something I will actually love and wear.” I don’t like really dense syrupy sweet scents, so a lot of the Lutensiest Lutens are too much for me, but I look at things like Clair de Musc and think “why would I go to Serge Lutens for that?”
I agree on the Clair de Musc (c’mon, I actually prefer Jovan Musk for Women). I’m not much of a Serge fan in general, but Five O’Clock is very nice.
Me too… and I have the same issue w/SLs, and 5:00 is one of my favorites (along w/Chergui and Sa Majeste etc.).
Clair de Musc was my first Lutens, and actually the one I regret most. I’ve purchased 17 others after that, all more to my taste. CdM is just sitting there, watching all the other bottles being used.
Oh, dear. Considering that I usually buy a couple of bottles a year, I’ve been quite bad with 3 bottles this quarter –
Chanel Sycomore (75 ml) – £15 after using some gift vouchers and birthday money
OJ Tiare (4x10ml travel sprays) £45 during their 29% off Olympics promotion
Diorella (30ml, earlier formulation) £28 incl postage
Total for the quarter £88
Adding Tubéreuse Criminelle at £3 and Amouage Dia at £60 incl postage, gives me a total of 5 bottles and £151 spend for the year so far.
I think those are some very nice additions, though, so I’m actually pretty pleased. Plus I finally bought everything that I had on my MUST HAVE list. I usually treat myself to a Diptyque candle every Christmas but, after that, I don’t think there will be any purchases for a while (okay, maybe FM L’Eau d’Hiver next spring). Just as well since I’m seriously considering going back to school next year.
Hey, but you got some great stuff for not too much money!
Jealous — I’d love to go back to school.
Thanks, that’s pretty much what I’m telling myself – the total spend is not bad and they are all things that I really love and have planned to buy for a while.
I already started to tentatively research my options but, as long as it’s practically possible, it’s something that I’m really keen to do.
Good luck. Maybe I’ll join you some day.
Thanks!
Lovely stuff you got.
And I hope the school project works out for you!
Thank you!
And I really hope so too.
L’Eau d’Hiver is so fine. It also tempts mee! I think it’s because it smells similar fo 1725 which I love.
Oh, I haven’t tried any of the Histoires de Parfums yet. What’s 1725 like?
It has an excellent citrus opening with grapefruit on top, then it turns into wonderfully herbal lavender with creamy vanilla and almonds.
That sounds really nice! And I just looked on their website and realised that they do a set of six samples for 10 Eur. Must resist!
I love L’Eau d’Hiver! It’s in my top 10 all time favorites. I actually went through the travel set in no time and am on set 2. I really should get a back-up bottle…
Sycomore for 15 pounds out-of-pocket isn’t bad at all. And it was only sensible to take advantage of that OJ deal.
That’s exactly how I rationalised it too 😀
You got some great buys. I’d be proud of those if I were you.
Thank you, I am. And now that my Must Own list is empty, I can enjoy what I have instead of constantly looking out for things.
I was about as bad as usual this quarter.
50 mL of Knize Ten ($70)
30 mL of YSL Nu EDP (old formula; $45)
25 mL of CdG 2 Woman ($70)
17 mL of SSS Jour Ensoleille ($35)
15 mL each of Demeter Beet Root, Funeral Home, Holy Smoke, Riding Crop, and Whiskey Tobacco ($30 for the lot, plus I seem to have received a free 30 mL spray of Chrysanthemum)
10 mL each of ELdO Afternoon of a Faun and Dangerous Complicity ($40 for the pair; the only blind buys of this quarter, and not coincidentally, the only duds of this quarter)
… and a small roll-on of Smell Bent Short Fuse ($12, I think)
I also ordered a Tauer discovery set (wonderful) and a whole passel o’ samples from StC, the latest batch of which just arrived last night. We’ll call it $425 for all perfume-related Q3 expenditures.
Congrats on your purchases Emily! Especially the Jour Ensoleille from SSS, it’s gorgeous ♥
What do you think about Afternoon of a Faun?
Agreed – JE is a beauty!
Thanks, Lucasai! I *love* Jour Ensoleille. It’s a good mood in a bottle.
Afternoon of a Faun starts off with some nice spicy-fresh notes. But those are short-lived, and then it’s all immortelle, all the time. I don’t hate immortelle (I’m wearing ELdO Like This right now) but I wish it weren’t quite so dominant. I tried to persevere to the drydown, but got sick of the immortelle and went for the Tide. I might try it again, though, because I’ve noticed with Like This that sometimes the immortelle is more prominent and other times it’s barely there.
Oh my! The old Nu. I want one in any form!
Isn’t that Tauer set just the cutest thing?
YES. And the juices ain’t bad, either.
If you layer those Demeter purchases, I think you’ll have SL’s de Profundis! 😉
LOL!
That’s hilarious. And you know I’m going to do it.
I got those too so you know I’ll be trying that.
Let us know, ladies!
Wonderful selection!
Thanks, Merlin!
Oh Donatella, you should be proud of me because I’ve been a very good boy this quarter and so many things tried to tempt me. But I was strong and resisted all “seductive” whispers.
During these three months I bought:
100ml of Acqua di Parma Iris Nobile EDP for 60$
200ml of Atelier Cologne Rose Anonyme for 180$
I also springed and spent eponymous 6$ on sample set of A Lab On Fire fragrances and also 6$ for small Parfumerie Generale sample set (3 scents of my choice). That sums up my perfume expenses for third quarter.
Oh, L, awesome on the $60 Iris Nobile EdP – love that stuff and that’s a great price.
It was a tester bottle and it came without a cap but the content is in perfect condition so it was a great score.
Well done on the discipline!
Thank you. All because I can’t wait to buy my first Parfum d’Empire in late October (or early November) – that’s why I kept the discipline.
Lucasi, which are you planning to buy? I’m tempted by Cuir Ottoman, but hoping to hold off until December…
I’m torn between Eau de Gloire and Cuir Ottoman. I was planning to buy Iskander first, but decided to buy the one I will be able to wear immediately as it would suit the cold weather. Maybe I should buy Eau de Gloire and ask for Cuir Ottoman for Christmas? Now, that’s the idea.
Oh you got the Iris Nobile EDP! Congrats Lucas!
Thank you
Lucas, I tried the Acqua di Parma Iris Nobile EDP, EDT and Intense (I think) this weekend. So far my verdict is I need to smell them again…no puppy love as yet.
I’ve not heard of Iris Nobile Intense? Didn’t you mean Iris Nobile Sublime, the new one from this year?
Actually, I was at a Blue Mercury and the Acqua Di Parma section was chaotic…and the bottles were not where they were supposed to be. I must have spliced two perfume names — the line has some perfumes with the name Intensa. In any case, I have to try the different concentrations again.
Well I was good, but not as good as I would wish to be.
I got:
Editions de Parfums: Carnal Flower
Honoré des Prés: I Love Les Carottes
As I paid full price for Carnal Flower it was still a lot of money, but well spent, I think. Les Carottes was discounted. I don’t remember what the total was.
Carnal flower is amazing, and I’m still planning to save up for my very own bottle.
(I need to forget the bottle splits, probably. And stop even looking at stuff on ebay…)
Ebay is where a lot of my perfumes have been acquired. I have gotten lots of really good deals there, but as my collection is expanding I am becoming more critical of new purchases. Carnal Flower had been on my Buy List for a long time and I am very glad I did get it. I have been wearing it quite a lot.
So yes, it is worth saving up for.
I am now trying to decide whether the next bottle will be Fracas, Manoumalia, Lonestar Memories or the MDCI discovery set.
Wow, those all sound like excellent possibilities. I take it you’re a tuberose fan 🙂
Yes I am. Started off as a rose lover, am now fonder of tuberose.
It just might be the Tauer as I prefer wearing tuberose when it’s warm.
Congrats on your Carnal Flower, that’s a very worthy splurge!
Well, since everyone else is congratulating you on the Carnal Flower, I’ll jump in and say congrats on the I Love Les Carottes. It was a blind buy for me and one that I ended up loving. It’s a great one for warm weather. Enjoy!
I got Les Carrottes in the Swap Meet and can’t wait to try it!
I was doing really well this quarter until this last month, when it seems I made a sudden mad dash to the end…. Sigh. The list is long, but except for the SSS and Clarins, all others are decants and near-empties. I do count samples as a single item, and roughly estimated the total to the equivalent of 5 bottles at a total of $250.
* * *
Full Bottles:
SSS – Champagne de Bois 17ml
Clarins – Elysium (vintage)
Partials & Minis:
Deneuve – edt (~12ml)
Nahema (~ 20ml vintage pdt)
E.Taylor – Black Pearl mini perfume
Near-Empties:
Piguet – Mademoiselle & Notes
Roger & Gallet – Blue Carnation
Divine – Divine edp
Norelle – perfume
Decants:
Amouage Interlude
Mona di Orio – Vanille & Etoile Rose
Handful of Samples from Luckyscent
***
Now off to see what everyone else bought…. 🙂
Deneuve is so so lovely.
Great stuff! What do you think of Notes and Mademoiselle? I’m curious to try the new Piguets.
Divine EDP was among my samples; such a lovely perfume.
The extrait is even better; just saying.
They were just delivered on Monday, but I will try and let you (and LYS) know. I did sniff the caps and Madamoiselle smells a bit powdery while Notes a bit green and bracing.
Great job! Blue Carnation was my mother’s signature scent for years and years until an SA at Saks convinced her to switch to Bellodgia.
I have an ancient Bellogia bottle with a tiny bit of perfume in it. I didn’t like it when I tried – probably turned, but I DO have a vial of edt sample from the early ’90s. Will need to compare. I did sniff the Blue Carnation in the bottle and it was wonderful. Need to run the contents through a filter as it’s obvious the previous owner used it a lot.
XO
Yes, inquiring minds want to know about the Mademoiselle & Notes.
Well, Robin, here I thought I’d finally been really good and might beat you – 1 backup bottle of Mauboussin Histoire d’eau Topaz at $35 – and then you went and bought *nothing*. Still… I think I’ve been good enough to celebrate by blowing my full $750 customs allowance in NYC. 😉
Sorry! And I didn’t even know we were competing 😉
And you’ve ABSOLUTELY earned $750 worth of perfume! Or something. Save some $ for tea & chocolate, too, maybe?
Amazingly, I only bought a few samples this time around. In a lot of ways I’m in “appreciate what I have” mode lately.
Congratulations, Jill! I think I’m about to join you in getting into the “appreciation” mode…. okay, maybe next year. But in truth, I’ve (or my sniffer has) gotten so far behind that I’m near buried in samples and scents that I’ve acquired and not tried or barely worn. Time to do something about that, I think.
Well, admittedly, my “appreciation mode” has been more than a little triggered by financial limitations! But really, in not being able to buy as much, I’m amazed by just how *much* I already have.
Yeah, when one goes into buying fervour it is just so easy to forget…
I thought I was in appreciation mode. Then I bought stuff.
LOL me too.
This quarter was bad. i bit the devil and bought mona di orio’s oud.
Holy ouch. I hope you love every last drop.
You betcha. Mona’s oud has been haunting me ever since i first smelled back when it first came out. i think it is the most beautiful oud rendition on this occidental side. After smelling it, every other oud seems very synthetic to my nose. They lack the complexity that’s not offered by man made materials.
You had to!
i think my eyes roll back in ecstasy every time i put it on. 🙂
I’m pretty confused about my buying strategy at the moment. Many months ago I put a 3 month waiting period on buying a bottle. What happened? After the 3 months lapsed I had lost any impetus to buy the frag I had loved three months earlier. Is that a good thing? Well I don’t know, because if I had that perfume I may well still be enjoying it. Therefore-confusion. So, in July I was good. I bought only:
Delices de fleurs – 75ml and the bottle was half the price it had been in December – R250
By the time I got it I was no longer thrilled about it; but now that the weather is warming I do enjoy it very much. In August I was near-saintly – no bottles. Part of the reason was that I kept telling myself that my birthday was in September and I could have my fun then. Okay, hello September and all my repressed perfume-buying-urges shot out like shaken champagne bottle. So here it is:
Encre Noir 50ml at 20% off = R450
2x 50ml bottles of D.K. Gold EDP – together = R500
Halston Cologne 100ml = R250
And then the day before my birthday *blush* I decided to get a non-discounted niche frag and splurged on a Parfum de Empire
Osmanthus Interdite, 50ml = R850
The grand total comes to R2300 or about $288. Oops, I think I’m going back to my 3 month waiting period…(I’m tempted at the moment by JPG Le Male)
You bought some really nice things.
Yay 🙂
Awww, birthday gifts-to-self don’t count against your total. Donatella came to me in a vision and told me so.
Wow, a Vision of Versace! Was the air miraculously scented? Have any other miracles appeared on the site – like debased classical perfumes returned to their former glory?
Also, perfume gifts from pets have long been part of the perfumista tradition, and Rufous over here is willing to take all responsibility. He really is a 40kg sweetie that way.
Try Lolita Lempicka Au Masculin, Cuba Gold, and Arpege PH before buying Le Male. There’s a wonderful new bottle of Le Male.
I actually like him best in his sailor suit!
Merlin, three months is a long time to wait, especially if your tastes change according to the seasons. That could be why you lost interest in things you loved….or you don’t really love them! My strategy is to buy (and use up) a decant first. That way I can enjoy it during the appropriate season but not make a commitment to a FB right away.
Suzy Q…I bet I know which one gets the FB nod 🙂
Suzy Q, I think you are right. It is more a case of seasonal change. I live in South Africa though, so acquiring decants is not that easy. Perfume Court, etc, may send overseas (I’m not sure) but then there is also the cost of postage, the reliability of the postal system, the long delay, worries about customs etc etc etc. If such a service were available here I think I would have much fewer bottles and be quite happy with 5 or 10mls of a lot of things!
Other than the 3 month waiting period, your buying pattern this quarter looks an awful lot like mine!
Very similar – though you got MUCH more variety!
I voted nary a one, since I did not buy any bottles and only purchased a decant of Seville a l’aube (which I may have to buy) and a smattering of samples. I am using up the stuff I love and trying to purge the stuff I am not wearing. If I make it through another poll with a “nary” vote, I will promptly treat myself to something!
I support the promptly treat yourself to something. It would make the weak-willed perfumistas among us feel MUCH BETTER! Lol, congrats on the restraint:)
Yoooouuuuu neeeeed Seville a l’Aube… yooouuu neeeddd iiiit…
No?
It’s Limited Edition, you know. 🙂
I do WANT it….and surely they will revive it once it sells out!!!
Hello swap buddy – I second the you have to get a FB of Seville a l’Aube.
😉
I was totally swayed by the limited edition flag… so I have a bottle.
This is turning out to be a very bad/good year for me. 17 FB this quarter, so, to keep track- if one must, that’s 41 FB so far this year.
I did travel abroad 3 times, so airport shopping is a must.
The new items to my collection this quarter are:
Ivoire –had to replace my bottle
Coromandel –been waiting for this one a long time
Midnight in Paris
YSL pour homme haute concentratiom –blind buy- and I hate it
VanCleef & Arpels pour homme
Perry Ellis (the original from 1985)
Oscar, Oscar de la Renta
Lui de Oscar de la Renta
Burberry The Beat
Boucheron pour Homme
Jaipur Homme
4711
Eau Sauvage Parfum
Lolita Lempicka L’eau au Masculin
NouvEAU cologne 4711
Empreinte de Courrèges
L’eau de Courrèges — my absolute favorite of this whole lot
I just split a bottle of Midnight in Paris with a friend and I am loving it! Such an underrated leather.
Midnight in Paris is Freakin’ AWEsome on my son. (Of course, now it smells like Gaze to me so I’ll never wear it myself. But that’s okay.)
41 bottles is impressive! Keep them stored safely 🙂
Coromandel is awesome. I love it in cold weather. My bottle has been a good investment.
I’m getting trigger happy with my purchases… I can barely keep up with myself! Excluding the numerous samples I’ve bought, here’s my list… so far!
1. Serge Lutens Une Voix Noire
2. Jo Malone Blackberry & Bay
3. Jo Malone English Pear & Freesia
4. Acqua di Parma Magnolia Nobile
5. Dita von Teese (for my daughter)
6. R Piguet Bandit (a replacement)
I think that’s all.
Right now, I have Boxeuses on my “to buy” list. I’ll decide after I test the samples from Serge Lutens (Daim Blond), Agent Provocateur (Petale Noir) and Tom Ford Tuscan Leather. If I like one of them better than Boxeuses, it will be my next purchase.
I cannot WAIT for my little bit of Une Voix Noire to show up. Am also intrigued by Blackberry & Bay (I keep considering buying a sample). And isn’t the Dita von Teese pretty? Just so floral and pretty.
Yes, she’s lovely. She did not disappoint. It’s perfect for my daughter, but I like it very much as well.
oh, I like Blackberry and Bay! You should try.
The Boxeuses worked out!
Yes. Thanks, Lys!
You got Voix Noire?? The Billy Holiday-inspired one? Gardenia/tobacco/rum. WOW. I didn’t know where it was available? Is it as gorgeous and interesting as it sounds. I REALLY want to try it. Maybe I can get samples at LuckyScent.
I live in London, so I ordered it as soon as it came out online from SL’s web store. The price when I bought it was 120 Euros, but a day later, it went up by 10 Euros.
Forgot to add that it is as gorgeous as it sounds and you can order a book of wax samples from SL via their website. I think they do send to the US.
It’s a bell jar Serge Boutique exclusive. In the US you can order from Barney’s – for an arm and a leg, of course….
For years I wore what I was given as gifts by well meaning family and friends. This quarter I snapped. I tossed all in the trash and said no mas. My perfume exploration began. The following is my damage.
Body Cream:
AG Eau d’Hadrien 6.7 oz $69.90
Archipelago Grapefruit Body Butter 7.5 oz $20.00
Full Bottles:
CB I Hate Perfume Patchouli Empire 100ml $ 90.00
Serge Lutens Borneo 1834 50ml $120.00
L’Artisan Seville a l’Aube 100ml $165.00
AG Eau d’Hadrien EDT 100ml $ 50.00
Travel size:
Providence Perfume Co. Indolice $ 26.00
Divine Noir $ 26.00
Tabac Citron $ 26.00
MDCI Chypre Palatin $ 50.00
Lorenzo Villoresi Wild Lavender $ 35.00
Serge Lutens Gris Clair $ 40.00
I had a blast doing this damage. In fact, I will be buying FBs of the Wild Lavender and the Indolice. Those purchases (and perhaps another 1 or 2) will be listed on the last quarter’s damage poll. Thank gawd the samples don’t count- there was another 100-140.00 easily. Wow it sure does take some cash to get back into the game. Thanks for letting me play.
Glad you had a good time!
You’re in good company here. Happy sniffing!
Oh, you got some nice things!
You got some great stuff!! And things that you chose, that pleased you. I just got my FB of Seville a l’Aube yesterday. Yowza–the more apply, the better it smells.
The Seville has been sprayed on almost all surfaces of my bedroom. My blanket and sheets smell great! I just have to take big nose hits.
Great choices, EasilyEnabled – congratulations on throwing off your chains!
Can’t believe its that time already!
Annick Goutal – Nuit Etoilee 50ml (plus 10ml travel spray freebie)
Caron – Nuit de Noel 50ml
L de Lolita Lempicka 30ml (had to have the bottle!)
Thierry Mugler – Dis Moi, Miroir 50ml (bargain at £50 on sale)
Kenzo – Madly Kenzo! 50ml
Narcisso Rodriguez – For Her, Intense, Musc Collection 50ml
Stella EDP 30ml
I also ordered a discovery set of ELDO so I could finally sniff Secretions Magnifique. Oh myyyyy! I now have a voucher for £25 to redeem against a full bottle (through Escentual), and I’m thinking Archives 69 will be next.
I’m on the waiting list for CB I Hate Perfume At The beach 1966 from Luckyscent, so that will hopefully be another one for next quarter.
I want that ELDO set. Maybe Santa will bring it to me this year…
So how was that Secretions? (snickers behind my hand)
Seriously, some people do seem to like it. It must smell very, very different on them than it does on me.
Well, I must have a pretty strong stomach, as I didn’t gag once! Got no whiff of manly secretions of any sort 🙂 However – it does smell like fresh roadkill on a wet day, and, it kinda reminded me of that awful, icky blood-pudding some of us Brits like to eat (urgh!!).
…and Poodle – you must get the set and try it 🙂
I got no, er, manly secretions either. But Big Scary Bloody Knife, got THAT all right.
And it made me literally feel terrified. Which is not at all what I was expecting.
Day At the Beach 1966 really brought back memories. The scent really took me back. I even remembered the bad sunburn I got and the smell of the vinegar bath my mom made me take when I got home. Nothing like smelling like a caesar salad.
Five bottles this quarter, I think (two of which were mini-sized). All were good deals IMO:
-10mL Sweet Anthem Nicolette from her fall LE collection ($22)
-10mL LUSH Lust purse spray ($14)
-Esteban Folie de Figue – that one’s more for my husband than me. Can’t remember size. Bought on sale for $25.
-Diane by Diane von Furstenberg 50 mL EDP & lotion set ($29 at TJ Maxx!)
-10oz (!!!) 4711 splash for my husband as his wedding present. Only around $30!! wow.
There was one more attempted purchase on my honeymoon, but it turned out to be out of stock and I couldn’t have it. 🙁 🙁 🙁
So, a fairly restrained quarter. Would have gone up quite a bit if I had been able to get my paws on the other bottle I wanted. 🙁
Also some samples: Sweet Anthem summer and fall collections, and Hove and Bourbon French samples while on honeymoon in New Orleans.
I *think* that’s all. I am not good at rememberies (as my daughter calls them).
Which perfume was out of stock? And I love the name Sweet Anthem!
Hi Merlin,
I don’t want to say yet! I am planning on blogging about it soon. The problem was that the size I wanted has been discontinued by the brand, I think. And I couldn’t shell out for the big one quite yet. =/
Oh, and Sweet Anthem is great! It’s an indie line based in Seattle. My friend Meredith is the perfumer.
I hate it when smaller sizes are discontinued! I need to look up sweet anthem…
It seems like ages since i last bought a full bottle. I think i only picked up Serge Lutens Chypre Rouge this time around. Im itching to buy a few bottles, but i just went on vacation and moved to a new apartment, so now may not be the best time. Lets see how much money i have left after i pay off all those credit cards.
and a Serge Lutens is nothing to sniff at either: )
Compared to the relative craziness of the second quarter, when I started blogging, got debt-free and acquired a US “scent mule,” things have calmed down quite a bit. Just one bottle in July, the very very last bottle of Bronze Goddess in all of Calgary which a fantastic SA tracked down for me.
I don’t think it’s going to be quite so restrained in the coming quarter. I’m a big believer in “drain a sample, buy a decant, drain a decant, buy a bottle.” Sounds reasonable, right? Except when you’ve got at least 4 decants on their last dregs all at the same time.
Well, you know, Christmas IS coming. Which should help at least a little.
I can proudly say only 2 bottles (Humiecki and Graf Clemency, Bois 1920 Come La Luna)
But decants and minis? Oy.
Hermes Pamplemousse Rose 15 ml
Profumi del Forte By Night, White 10 ml
Profumi del Forte By Night, Black 15 ml
Profumi del Forte Versilia Vintage Boise 15 ml
Profumi del Forte Versilia Vintage Ambre Mediteranee 8 ml
Amouage Beloved 5 ml
Amouage Interlude 5 ml
Amouage Epic 5 ml
Amouage Library Series sample set 2 ml each
Parfumerie Generale Praline de Santal 5 ml
Serge Lutens Fourreau Noir 8 ml
Phaedon Dzhari 8 ml
Cdg Incense Kyoto, Jaisalmer, Ouazarzate, Avignon 5 ml each
Bois 1920 Come L’Amore 8 ml
Bois 1920 Notturno Fiorentino 8 ml
Mona Di Orio Vanille 5 m
Hermessence Santal Massoia 8 ml
Bond 9 Manhattan 6 ml
Bond 9 Washington Square 6 ml
Bond 9 Madison Square Park 6 ml
And the yesterday I bought:
Xerjoff Sospiro Discovery Set
Xerjoff Shooting Stars Set Masculine
but that’s next quarter, right? Because it was Oct. 1?
Luckily, I only seem to do this in the fall…..the rest of the year I’ll only buy about a quarter of the above over 9 months. Don’t know why that is……it’s colder? I’m a squirrel storing nuts for winter?
I need to lay off the splits again too. When I don’t get interested in “the shinies” I tend to spend less money.
Damage for the quarter…
2 Full bottles.
Guerlain Sous Le Vent
&
Ann Gerard Ciel d’Opale
Happy with them both and happy that I only purchased 2 bottles this quarter.
Sold 14 bottles on Ebay this quarter. It’s nice to be in a place where more are going out than coming in.
Happy Day to you all.
You got good stuff. (Haven’t smelled the Ann Gerard but have heard such positive things about the line.) I keep saying I’m going to sell some unloveds from the collection on ebay and then I get distracted and don’t do it.
I should. I still have several I don’t love.
Thanks mals86.
I liked the Ciel d’Opale the best out of the 3 in the line. Longetivity isn’t the greatest with this one but I like the scent so much that I can deal with that issue.
I understand about wanting to sell some of your unloved scents on Ebay and not getting around to doing it. I was stuck like that for about 4 yrs. I have over 300 bottles in my collection and more than half of them have only been spritzed once.
I enjoy my collection but at the same time, it becomes burdensome and when that happens, I start to sell a few bottles here and there. Eventually, I would like to have a collection of 25 bottles only. One day. ….
curious about the once-sprayed-bottles. Are they ‘blind buys’?
Hi Merlin,
A small percentage of them were blind buys due to getting caught up in the hype of the latest and greatest releases when I was a regular on a perfume board/group for a few years. The larger percentage was from ordering samples mostly from LuckyScent and it would be love at first sniff and sample and I would promptly order a bottle. It would get here, I would spritz it and then the thrill was gone.
The misc. percentage are ones that I love to wear and those are the ones that will end up staying in my collection. I have had most of those bottles for a long time and some not so long, but I do wear them frequently.
I no longer belong to any groups. I was finally able to get off the carousel – so to speak.
I mostly buy minis and decants unsniffed – but there are some other things I used to like and have just stopped loving.
I have maybe 8-10 full bottles I need to find new homes for, but several minis.
Mals86 –
Do you think you will ever come around to liking again the ones that fell out of your favor?
Probably not.
I wonder why your initial experience of the sample differed so dramatically from your later experience when the bottle arrived. That must be quite upsetting. I thought that I had come to dislike some of the bottles I have, but then, trying them again, months later, and in a different season I could appreciate them all over again. The one big exception is Bronze Goddess. Can’t stand the coconut and don’t know why I loved it so much every time I tested it at the shop.
Also, sometimes layered with something else a perfume becomes gorgeous again…
Confession is supposed to do the soul good, so here it is: 3 partial bottles, 2 dry oils, and (gulp) 11 bottles of perfume. I’m going to have to stand in the corner in the hall of shame.
25 ml Acqua di Parma, Profumo EDP (partial bottle, eBay)
4.2 oz. bottle of YSL, Yvresse EDT (discounters)
30 ml Mugler Cologne (Chandler Burr #SOIE02) gave it to my husband
30 ml Nicolai, L’Eau a la Folie EDP
50 ml Parfums DelRae, Coup de Foudre EDP
L’Artisan Parfumeur, Premier Figuier dry oil
50 ml Annick Goutal, Ninfeo Mio EDT (discounters)
75 ml Keiko Mecheri, Ume EDP
100 ml Prada, Infusion de Fleur d’Oranger EDP (partial bottle, eBay)
50 ml Prada, Infusion de Tubereuse EDP (partial bottle, eBay)
50 ml Trish McEvoy, Gardenia Musk #4 EDT (eBay)
75 ml VC&A, Gardenia Petale EDP
Huiles Precieuses Body Oil
100 ml Jo Malone, Dark Amber & Ginger Lily Cologne Intense (eBay)
100 ml L’Artisan Parfumeur, Seville a l’Aube EDP
50 ml Penhaligons, Peoneve EDP
On the contrary, I think you should stand proud of that list of acquisitions!
Is the Huiles Precieuses from the Diptyque skincare line? That one is fabulouse. I’ll bet it’s even better layered with Seville a l’Aube.
Dying to try the L’Eau a la Folie…
The Huiles Precieuses is part of the Diptyque line, and I will definitely try it with Seville a l’Aube…sounds lovely. I highly recommend Eau a la Folie. The only drawback is that it doesn’t last long enough 🙁
I was relatively good .. Oops that is how I intended to start my post when I actually realised I haven’t been so good after all.My purchases for this quarter are:
1. Montale Oud Cuir d’Arabie 100 mls Edp approx 110 euro
2. Cuir de Lancome 50 ml edp approx 35 euro
3. Jacomo Silences 30 ml edp aprox 25 euro
4.Badgley Mischka Badgley Mischka parfum extrait 30 ml approx 25 euro
5. Olfactive Studio sample set 6 euro
So over 200 euro in expenses
Donatella, my lady, forgive me for my sins…
I’ve actually started to deaccession things from my collection (OK, sell, but “deaccession” sounds classier). So not much in the way of buying for me lately.
I did buy a sample set of the Kerosene frags everyone has been raving about. And as soon as the weather stops being insanely hot (c’mon, it’s OCTOBER!) I’ll be trying them out. Who wants to bet I’ll fall for Copper Skies?
Aparatchick – I hear you on the heat. Are you in So. Calif. by any chance? These past few days have been unbearably hot. We were at 100 and then there is this weird humidity that has been stalking us here. ugh.
I am ready for cold and rainy weather. It can’t come soon enough!
I’m in Florida where I just got back from an evening walk around the neighborhood in 88% humidity-ugh!
I heard from a friend who lives just over the Arizona border from Southern California who is really tired of 100 degree heat, too. Guess we’ll all just be keeping the summer perfumes out a little longer…..
Oh yeah! I remember reading before where you mentioned Florida. 88% humidity? Yuck.
I used to in Cocoa Beach back in the 70’s and even as a kid I loathed humidity. I remember the elementary school that I went to there was NOT air conditioned! Funny thing for a kid to remember, eh?
Hope you get some cool weather soon!
Small world! I had lunch in Cocoa Beach last week.
I’m in So. Cal. too, and it really has been the most horrible summer — so muggy, and so hot! Day after day of temps over 100, ugh.
Hi Thalia,
This is the first summer where we have run the a/c almost everday during the day! Our electric bill was horrendous for the month of August. I can’t wait to see what September’s bill will be.
The mugginess has been relentless. I have lived here since the early 1980’s and this is the worst summer I can remember.
We went to Las Vegas a few weeks ago and I was actually looking forward to some DRY heat but when we got there, they were experiencing one of their muggiest summers also. lol I can’t win.
I am in the Laguna area. Are you down this way?
– a new 50 ml bottle of Un Jardin sur le Nil
– a half full 100 ml bottle of AG’s Heure Exquise
– large decants of Ginestet Botrytis and Le Temps d’une Fete
– a dram bottle of DSH Vert pour Madame
– a 50 mls bottle of Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse – does that have to count as perfume? Skin care, right?
– and lots of samples
Not too bad I guess, $$-wise.
Oh, and a 10 ml spit of Le Labo’s Baie Rose 26. Love!
How you count the Nuxe depends on how you use it. If primarily for scent, then certainly it’s a fragrance purchase, otherwise, skin care. Either way it’s a good buy. 🙂
I’m *still* atoning for Q4 2011 so it was another disciplined quarter for me:
Miss Dior Cherie L’Eau.
La Petite Robe Noire Modele 2.
As noted before, Hello Kitty Intense. On clearance.
All discontinued.
Also bought Guerlain Vetiver in the stripey bottle b/c they just changed it back to the Habit Rouge shape.
Saving my $$$ in case I fall victim to one of three large Guerlemmings this winter. Four if they release L’Heure Bleue 2013 early.
Wow, you must have had one heck of a quarter in 2011 if you are still atoning. I admire your discipline.
I think I’m just finding my balance between collecting and actually using. I wasn’t taking the time to enjoy what I had!
Hermès Osmanthe Yunnan, 100 ml.
Hermès Voyage d’Hermès, 100 ml
Annick Goutal Mon Parfum Chéri, par Camille, 100 ml
Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune, 75 ml
Clinique Aromatics Elixir, 45 ml
Kenzo Jungle pour Homme, 100 ml
L’Artisan Parfumeur Safran Troublant, 100 ml
Outremer Mousse de Chêne, 100 ml
Ineke Gilded Lily, 75 ml
Serge Lutens Louve, 50 ml
Comme des Garçons Ouarzazate, 50 ml
I gave someone a 50 ml bottle of Frédéric Malle Dan Tes Bras
Someone gave me a bottle of Byredo Black Saffron
I ordered what is probably most extravagant purchase yet, but it hasn’t been delivered yet, so it will have to go on next quarter’s tally.
Ooh! Osmanthe Yunnan is fantastic. One of my favorites!
Enjoy!
How’s the Byredo Black Saffron?
I love how Osmanthe Yunnan blooms in extreme heat.
I haven’t really tried Black Saffron yet. Saffron is oneof my favorite notes, so a friend of mine bought it for me. I think it’s too early in the season, though, to wear it. I’ll wait until it’s a bit cooler. From what I can tell, it’s not very sweet. But even when it’s warm, I don’t have much love for saffron fragrances I love.
Hi everyone. I hate it when my job gets in the way of the Damage Poll 🙂 I’m late to the party. Can’t wait to read everyone’s comments.
I would have had the cheapest quarter yet except that….well, I got a decant of Seville a l’Aube, and then just had to have a bottle. I read somewhere “limited edition”. I don’t know if that’s true but I didn’t want to take any chances.
$218 total–not too bad.
Decants:
Seville a l’Aube–almost gone!
Vetiver Fatal–LOVE
Rose Anonyme–swapped, did not love
Amouage Interlude Woman–love!
Full Bottle:
Seville a l’Aube–arrived yesterday!!! I’m bathed in it at the moment.
I couldn’t resist Seville a l’Aube either! It’s definitely listed as LE, and Denyse explained on Grain de Musc that this had something to do with limited availability of some of the special natural ingredients.
Thanks for telling me/us. It makes me feel better about investing in a full bottle!
I was supposed to behave but a few weekend getaways and clearance sales and so much for that.
2 -15ml Calyx
50ml L’epi de Provence Violet Moss
50ml? Womanity
50ml Tokyo Milk Dark Arsenic
Ineke sample set
I think the big ol’ bottle of Jessica Simpson Fancy nights was this quarter too. I think.
50ml Coco
And samples….
So I was a good girl and avoided most niche stuff but those discount stores just sucked me in. I am weak. It probably tallies up to about $200.
Oh for heavens sake, I forgot the ELDO ones. I got that Dangerous Complicity and Afternoon of a Faun set. That’s another $40.
LOL, they had those two as a set?
Yes. I think it was Parfum 1 that had them. It was 2 10ml bottles. They aren’t spray bottles though. I’m not that crazy about the scents. Maybe they’ll grow on me.
I like the idea of getting 10 ml bottles, less pressure. I don’t know about those two scents but I’ll have to remember to look for more of those 2 or 3 bottle discovery set type offers.
And for the sake of honesty and absolution I didn’t even need the Womanity. I have a bottle already but I saw one marked down to $20. I now have a backup bottle.
What a great deal! Womanity is on my to-buy list..
Poodle – I don’t think the 2 bottles of Calyx count as damage — aren’t you giving these away?
It appears I bought 3 since the price was so cheap. So unless I gift out one more that would be 2 for the poll.
…jealous over the Ineka samples!
Decants:
Amouage Gold Woman 5 ml (original “cristalle” formula)
Amouage Gold Woman 5 ml (current formula)
Minis:
Amouage Dia Woman 7.5 ml
Jovan Mink & Pearls 1/8 oz. (vintage from eBay)
Joya Ames Soeurs 10 ml rollerball
Total cost: $119, making this by cheapest quarter so far. According to my spreadsheet, I didn’t even order any samples this quarter.
That cristalle formula of Gold is the absolute best!
I am intrigued by the Mink & Pearls.
The best part is, the M&P was only $6, as no one else bid on it.
Ooooh – another Mink & Pearls fan! I adored it as a teenager and bought a similar one as yours a couple of years ago just for old time’s sake. They really don’t make them like they used to.
Is the “cristalle” the one in the ornate crystal bottle? how do you think it compares with the more recent version? I’ve often wondered whether the new one is worth the investment…
After trying to talk myself out of it for a year, I finally bought a bottle of By Killian Back to Black. I am enjoying it. I have been good about avoiding buying less expensive fragrances I merely like but I could not resist the Back to Black.
Wise choice, Zephyr2!
Two full bottles for me. Both are replacements – I finished a bottle of Ouarzazate, and my cat broke a half-empty bottle of Bottega Veneta (he’s lucky he’s cute!) The Ouarzazate recalls memories of a great vacation to Morocco I took a couple of years ago, and the BV is a staple that I wear 2-3 times a week (and still love!), so both were must-replace for me. It is a bit less exciting than bottles of new-to-me fragrances, but at least I scored samples with both purchases – so I’m working my way through 12 new-to-me scents via samples, at least.
This was my worst quarter in awhile, though still not too bad. I bought: Nina Ricci Farouche, 3 ml mini parfum; on a whim, a 50 ml bottle of Thymes Lotus Santal; and due to a happy coincidence of mentioning a d/ced scent, only to have a friend stumble across it, a 100 ml bottle of Creative Universe Element of Surprise. Total for the quarter: $122.50. That doesn’t count a bunch of samples I bought (first ones in a long while)… but I had birthday money hanging around unspent that went toward the EOS purchase, so it evens out.
Love Farouche parfum 😉
My damage:
Azagury Eau de Parfum – full 50ml bottle
MFK Lumiere Noire Pour Femme (Eau de Parfum) – full 70ml bottle
Ormonde Jayne discovery set
I received a handful of samples, all free, so naturally they don’t count. 😉
Happy to say, another frugal quarter! (Especially since I’ll be spending THOUSANDS of dollars this week when I finally sign on my house!!!! Maybe Thursday?) Anyway, three bottles–
Nostalgie
Dune
Cuir & Champignon (dram of oil)
$128 all told. Downright cheapskate, I say! (If only the non-perfumista world would see it that way! 😀 )
Congratulations on the house! $128 is a drop in the bucket compared to the closing costs!
Thank you! and my thoughts, exactly!
Actually, I was complaining to a friend that buying a house will put a damper on my perfume hobby. She was not very sympathetic and suggested that yard work and other homeowner chores would easily take the time (and money) I’ve been spending on scents! Hard for me to believe that will be true!
Congrats again! And don’t forget that you will need to reward yourself for doing/completing those home projects. No better reward than a nice new fragrance I always say.
Congratulations, Marjorie! Just remember that if you ever need a quick fix, just tap one of our shoulders for a swap or share.
Being in the same town as the Perfume House is pretty tempting, but you have much fortitude! So nice to meet you in person this weekend, and thanks again for the samples!
I am ashamed.
Deneuve 100 ml. x 3
Parure 100 ml.
I love them that much. No regrets. Just a little shame.
(jaw drops) HOW did you find three bottles of Deneuve??
I have a partial one that I treasure. I don’t blame you at all for snapping them up!
I ended up getting them all on ebay. Two from a store, one from a guy who sold fishing lures and one bottle of Deneuve, I took a chance, and it paid off beautifully. I have my stock. Th e Parure I picked up on a recent TPC sale. I let another Parure slip away, trying to be prudent. Who am I kidding?
I love the decants, but my heart is in the past. The only new find (for me) is Amouage Dia. Expect to see that on my 4th quarter list!
I adore Deneuve but have never tried Parure. Since we are scent twins, Juicejones, I’ll have to put it on my to try list. Is it a chypre?
Aaack!!! Temporarily faints….
Deneuve and Parure are 2 of the most gorgeous chypres ever made.
JJ – Congratulations on your rich acquisition.
You should try Parure. For what it’s worth, though, I really love Deneuve but could not wear Parure at ALL. There’s enough fruit in with the chypre to trigger my fruity-chypre “something in my perfume is making me feel sick” reflex. (That’s just me.)
Thanks, Mals. I like fruity chypres in general, so I’ll give it a try.
Deneuve is my SOTD 🙂
I sold off a bunch of unloved bottles, and ended up purchasing a couple of expensive ones to replace them. So, all in all, my bottle count went down! I actually think this is a record low out-of-pocket quarter for me (suppose I should check).
Six bottles $114
Five decants $87
Total $201
Bottles:
Chandler Burr Untitled Series S01E02 (Thierry Mugler Cologne)
Chandler Burr Untitled Series S01E03 (Arquiste L’Etrog)
Guerlain Lys Soleia
Vamp a NY
Aedes de Venustas EDP (partial)
Agonist Liquid Crystal
Guerlain 180 Ans (the killer purchase…)
Decants:
Bois 1920 Come L’Amore
Amouage Interlude Woman
Amouage Interlude Man
L’Artisan Seville a l’Aube
Guerlain Shanghai
I was SO HAPPY to give your Le Temps d’une Fete a new home! thank you again.
Happy I could pass it on! 🙂
How is the Agonist? *Love* the bottle >:D
Actually disappointed in the Agonist. Purchased it based on a sample I had from a few years ago. I think it’s been reformulated with the new packaging, as it does not smell the same at all! Also, I didn’t get that $1,000 bottle. 😉 They’re come out with different, much less expensive bottles!
Sorry to hear they reformulated it on you. The rest of your purchases, they read like my wish list!
Hummm, er, it doesn’t matter.
Nice pics. 😉
forgive me donatella…
1. vat of vintage Baghari $wortheverypenny
2. vintage Amber Royal (for the scent of real ambergris)
3. 3 x CB I Hate… Empire Violet (clearance… 🙂
4. L’Artisan Tea for Two
I’m new here. Thanks for the little darkened cubicle in which to confess my misdeeds.
As a long-time lurker, I figure this is a good opportunity to de-lurk and ‘fess up…. Purchases for this quarter include FBs of:
Bulgari Black
Prada L’Eau Ambree
Donna Karan Gold
OJ Tolu (both OJ’s bought with 29% Olympic promo)
OJ Woman
Cartier Declaration
Prada Infusion de Vetiver
Chopard Madness
Bottega Veneta
I had a bit of a purchasing frenzy…
nice!
Thank you!
Great choices 🙂
Thank you! I’ve definitely fallen down the rabbit hole. It’s lovely to have a site that is so enabling, lol!
Sort of a slow quarter for me (staying AWAY from ebay for the most part):
Frapin 1697 Absolu (love, love, love)
Amouage Gold 20 ml perfume refill (old version)
Paco Rabanne La Nuit EDT (old stock)
Prada Infusion d’Iris (blame Chandler Burr)
Chandler Burr/Open Sky S01 E02, E03 and E04
Also various decants, samples and minis, such as a Cher Uninhibited mini (blame Portia and Radium’s video) and Kiehl’s Coriander Oil roller bottle.
Technically, I needn’t count it, since it arrived October 1, but I can’t leave out beloved L’AP Séville à l’Aube, can I? Wore it today and daydreamed about the Great Mosque of Córdoba.
Hee, I got my L’AP Séville à l’Aube yesterday but I am counting it as third quarter damage. I love it!
I forgot to sample this one and now I see it’s an LE. Grrrr … time to call Luckyscent. BTW nozknoz congrats on the Frapin. And the Cher, Portia and Radium’s video made it sound awesome.
If you like orange blossom at all, don’t miss it!
Uninhibited is one of those perfumes that makes you wish someone would realize the idea with better ingredients. Also loved the video Portia posted of Cher’s ad, in which she says, “There was no place for me to fit in, so I had to expand.”
I watched that video and thought it absolutely ran circles around other celeb perfume ads. 🙂
You know, Noz – I’ve been wondering about that Gold refill. It’s the one marked Amouage in the green package, right? How is it? was it worth the investment?
Right, that green box. I’m enjoying it. Perhaps the top notes smell slightly old, and it doesn’t seem as strong as some of the Amouages (maybe more natural?). Partly I bought it because I wanted some Gold but not $300 worth. I’ve been mulling a second bottle, though.
Late to the party too because of the job, but hey, that’s what replenishes the kitty!
Decants, samples, sample sets don’t count. With one exception, I’m including only FBs of any size that were on hand during the quarter, not the ones I ordered in late September that have not yet arrived. Given these “rules”, I actually did better than last quarter based on bottle count). I’m happy to report that I did not have to pick the “More than 15” category. Finally, I urge you to please pay attention to the purchases that resulted from encounters via the internets (yeah, this blog), denoted by (*):
– Atelier Cologne Vanille Insensée Cologne Absolue 30mL
– (*) Chanel Coco Noir EDP 50mL
– (*) Crabtree & Evelyn Himalayan Blue EDT 30mL
– (*) L’Artisan Seville a l’Aube EDP 100mL
– (*) PdN L’Eau à la Folie 30mL
– Le Labo Iris 39 EDP 50mL
– (*) Prada Infusion d’Iris EDP Absolue 100mL
– Serge Lutens Iris Silver Mist EDP 75mL
– Spicebomb EDT 50mL
– Tauer Tableau de Parfums Miriam EDP 7mL
– Thierry Mugler Angel EDP 25mL
– Tokyo Milk Dark Bittersweet EDP 47.3mL
– (*) Tokyo Milk Dark Excess EDP 47.3mL
– Tokyo Milk Dark Tainted Love EDP 47.3mL
The blind buys were: Vanille Insensée, L’Eau à la Folie, Miriam and all the Tokyo Milk Darks. I have not yet tried Vanille Insensée and Miriam, the rest are keepers.
I also bought: Ineke Sample Set, 5 x 2.5mL SSS samples (my 3rd set to-date), Tauer Sample Set (also my 3rd set to-date), 3 LuckyScent Sample Paks and assorted samples from STC.
I’m afraid to read what others bought because it will cause me to fall deeper into the rabbit hole, but oh, what a fragrant rabbit hole it is!
Additional sample sets – Aftelier 7 x 1mL and Slumberhouse 5 x 2mL
Just tried a sample of vanilla insensee and it’s truly lovely.
I’m almost too embarrassed to say. This will make everyone else feel a lot better: I bought a
BACK UP bottle of Amouage Beloved. 400 dollars plus.
But that came with a promise to self to not buy anything for months. And months. I saved up my rentor’s rent money and just did it. I feel like I won’t run out for a while. It’s tough to get. BG had 2 bottles, then none. I was in despair. Then they called and found one. I have it.
Got a chance to sniff the new, not even announced?, certainly not released, Amouage Interlude scents–male and female. And the male version is BEAUTIFUL! They didn’t have Beloved, but maybe I should be grateful? I’m finding myself considering preemptively saving up for a bottle of Interlude Man . . .
Completely justified purchase!
Thank you. It’s a bit extreme. I had to do it. Nothing out there like it…
Wow, interesting that they are out already! I’ve really enjoyed my decant and if it were more easily available (like on LuckyScent) I would probably have a bottle, but the extra effort on top of the price held me back.
3 bottles for me this quarter. All from Theirry Mugler! I got myself two 0.8 oz Angels and a 1 oz Alien. They were on sale at Nordstrom for $48 each so I did pretty good if I don’t say so myself. Haha!
And that picture of Donatella evokes great joy and great fear in me every 3 months! I LOVE this poll but usually I’m too frightened to admit my purchases. I really did do good this quarter. I promise! Hahaha! : )
😯
Nordstrom had a Mugler sale?!
YEAH! I guess they’ve been doing it for a few yrs now. I had no clue but I think every Sept, 5th-12th or something like that, only the 1 oz Aliens and .8 oz Angels go on sale! Pretty awesome if you ask me and I can’t believe it’s been going on without me knowing. It was even in their catalogs and such. I’m assuming it was only in-store because I checked online on those days and they weren’t on sale.

Thanks for sharing this info, it’s appreciated 🙂 🙂 🙂
LOL I have no idea why your comment just copied itself into my comment. Obviously my reply is the bottom line with the smileys.
I was going to wait until December during 10point day to get Angel EDP but was delighted to see the Thierry Mugler Angel and Alien special where you “fill at the source” at a very good price.
I start out thinking I bought one, maybe two bottles and by the time I finish reading the comments, I realize I’m a much bigger spender than I thought…. In my defense, however, I was able to resist the Neiman Marcus Beauty Event because they didn’t have *anything* I wanted (Cuir Beluga was on backorder) so perhaps I’ve hit a new phase!
Arquiste Infanta en Flor (my new HG!)
SL Louve
L’Artisan Seville a l’aube
Cartier Basier Vole EDT (and a used mini of the EDP)
Guerlain Petit Robe Noire Model 2 (not the current sephora version – I thought I was buying the original pre-sephora version)
A handful of decants including Dia extrait, Epic, Beloved, Interlude M&W( which I promptly swapped) and I’m sure another few decants here or there.
And for my birthday, I ordered the Amouage Dia shower gel (pass) and Dia hand cream (LOVE!) and L’artisan Mure et Musc shower gel (win!)
I love reading about everyone’s purchases!
I’m selfishly glad you didn’t like Interlude Woman 🙂
A lot of people here bought Seville a l’Aube. I’d be curious to see L’Artisan’s sales figures.
CM, I like your list.
Hope you wind up liking the Petite Robe Noire. I actually bought mine b/c when I heard they discontinued Iris Ganache, I sampled IG and realized instead that I really liked the iris in La Petite Robe Noire 2.
I was so good during the summer, and if September didn’t count it would have been zero. I needed a new bottle of Theorema, though – the cold weather’s coming!
Damage: 110.00 for 100 ml edp
I was really good, bought only 1 FB: Songe de Tulipe by Il Profumo. And I got a free 15ml bottle of my choice with purchase, I got the Tubereuse.
Now that I’ve discovered this blog, my passion has roared its scented head again, and I have already ordered 3 FB and 7 samples in the first 2 days of October. Oops.
Welcome to the rabbit hole, Cath!
I went a bit crazy this quarter, mainly with decants and splits. I quit tabulating when I hit $1000 for the quarter.
Decants:
Amouage Interlude man and woman
MPG Ambre Precioux and Ambre Dore
SL UVN
Dior – Bois de Argent, New Look, Eau Noir, Patchouli Imperial,
Frapin Speakeasy
CdG Amazing green
Coco Noir
FM L’eau d’Hiver
Atelier – Vetiver Fatale and Rose Anonyme.
Full bottles:
L’Artisan Seville a’Laub
SSS Champagne du Bois and Incense Pure
PdE Wazumba
Rochas Femme
PG Indochine
Mini bottle:
HdP – Tuberose 3
And…. Oh, I just need to stop.
Seville a l’Aube got a lot of love from this group!
You got some really nice things this quarter!
my totalis rahter high considering i am on a sabbitiacl and should not be spending! Her goes:
COCO noir
COCO the orignal
Miss Dior le parfum (new version, which is the perfume of miss dior cherie!)
Guerlain, la petite robe noire
Lady GAGA
L’heure Bleue EDP (ran ot and i always need a botte!)
I bought COCO noir because i fell foir thebottle, not a good idea, it is not up to the originality of the old COCO which is why i bought a replacement.
Miss dior parfum, seems on retrospect very much like Coco Noir, bland ambree!
love coco!!!!
No out of control sprees, I’m afraid – just a big bottle of Love Chloe.
oops, forgot about a bottle of Seville L’Aube too!
I’ve bought two bottles this quarter: Aqua Fahrenheit 125 ml and Fahrenheit Absolute 100 ml. Aqua for in summer, and the Absolute for autumn/winter. To me these are variations on a (good) theme, and I like to keep my Fahrenheit family complete in my bathroom cabinet.
I just recently fell in love with F absolute! But given all my sinful spending I will not own it for some time…
I bought:
– Gianfranco Ferré: Ferré edp100 ml (a bargain for 20 USD)
– van Cleef & Arpel: First 5 ml
– Donna Karan: Gold edp 60 ml (a bargain as well)
– Chanel: Coromandel (uh, very much not a bargain, but I need it)
Now I am contemplating 31, Rue Cambon. I am pretty darn sure I need it.
Would that be the original Jasmin-Tuberose Ferre, the Aldehydic Floral Ferre, or the Iris Ferre? All 3 are gorgeous, of course! 😉
Ha! Nothing to confess, since I didn’t buy a single bottle! (The $422 I spent on samples and decants is just between me and my credit card.)
🙂
Three bottles:
Guerlain Vetiver Pour Elle
CdG Carnation
ELdO Nombril Immense
Received my first Amouage sample and *really* hoping I don’t fall in love with it.
Hi Annie, I hope you don’t mind if I ask you where you found your Vetiver Pour Elle. It seems to be quite elusive here in the USA 🙁
Total for the quarter–$229 for Black Cashmere, Ivoire, and Lush Potion and Silky Underwear (which are not here yet were paid for in Sept). If somebody hadn’t bought 10! Bottles of L’Heure Convoitee a few days before I went to Saks my damage would have been much higher, so I already know 4th quarter will be higher than this one
Hi ,I’ve been very good, just one bottle for 55 euros ( 71 dollars):L’Ame Soeur by Divine, lovely stuff that came with a bunch of samples mostly Divines and Acqua di Parma.
You have been good: glad to hear you are enjoying the Divine!
Super late as well… long hours are keeping me away from my perfume readings! I believed I purchased 3 bottles this quarter, but may be missing one.
Lush 25:43 0.3 oz.
Le Temps d’une Fete – not sure if it is the new version or not (i bought it at Scent Bar so hoping it was older stock! Is there a way to tell?)
Cuir de Lancome
Just chiming in at the end to say: My quarter was a personal best for me, and just about where I wanted it to be, until the last week, when I was able to get three (THREE) things on my “If this EVER turns up at a decent price, BUY” list. Including one on my “If this EVER turns up at any price whatsoever, BUY” list. (It was a vintage bottle of N’Aimez Que Moi, and the juice is in lovely shape, and I’m SO pleased.) I can’t feel bad for blowing my budget out of the water over such lovely things (the other two were Attrape-Coeur and Kenzo UFO). I’ve found that it’s the things I bought on impulse that I’m not that excited about owning two or three months later that cause me the most grief, not the ones I’ve been stalking for ages.
I think I’m really getting the hang of buying samples, and letting lemmings wait for a bit. I hate to lose out on a deal, and I spend way too much time online shopping, but there are few deals I can’t pass up, and I have so much now in my collection that when I decide I need “new” things, I can shop amongst the shelves and find things that I already know I liked well enough to buy!
FBs for the quarter also included “Collect if at all possible” backup bottles of favorite Ava Luxes.
Ava Luxe Madeline EDP
Ava Luxe No. 23 EDP
McQueen Kingdom EDP
McQueen Kingdom Floral Ltd Ed. (went a little nuts over Kingdom)
Guerlain Apres l’Ondee
Anthropologie/Le Labo Belle du Soir
Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire (I don’t know why, I just like it!)
Legacy 1912 Titanic (hangs head in shame)
DSH Cafe Noir
Guerlain Attrape Coeur
Kenzo UFO
Caron N’aimez que Moi (vintage)
…and some MCMC Love I was gifted!
It’s a happy quarter.
