Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day Bluebell Liquid Dish Soap ~ home fragrance review

Posted by Jessica on 8 June 2012 16 Comments

Bluebells, closeupMrs. Meyer's Clean Day Bluebell Liquid Dish Soap Bluebells

Last fall I reviewed two bluebell perfumes from Penhaligon's and Jo Malone and I wasn't thrilled by either one, but I did express my appreciation for bluebells in general and my wish that more bluebell fragrances would be released. I haven't noticed any new bluebell launches in the fine fragrance market (yet), but I was happy to learn that the latest fragrance blend from green home-fragrance brand Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day is...Bluebell.

Like all Mrs. Meyer's products, the Bluebell scent collection is made with "earth-friendly essential oils and other natural ingredients." This Bluebell fragrance is composed from notes of lemon, bergamot, jasmine, tuberose, rose, lavender, sage, muguet, vetiver and ginger. It's a lengthy list of notes, but Mrs. Meyer's Bluebell scent turns out to be light and soothing and pretty. I can detect hints of lemon and clary sage, but it's more of a fresh, spring-y floral fragrance. The lily of the valley effect is definitely there, as well as a green, transparent "dewdrop" accord that reminds me a little of my long-ago favorite Kenzo Parfum d'Été. I think there might even be a touch of mint somewhere in the mix. I'm not usually a fan of "clean" or "fresh" florals, but this one has just enough petals and leaves to counter its ozonic side.

One other fact about me: I dislike dish washing almost as much as I love delicate floral fragrances. I shouldn't complain, since we do have a dishwasher, but even one sink-full of pots and pans brings out my irritable side. A nicely scented dish liquid detergent goes a long way towards improving my mood during this activity. I can't really choose a favorite collection from Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day — I'm also a fan of Lavender, Lemon Verbena, and particularly Geranium — but Bluebell brings its own spring-garden pleasure to the kitchen.

Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day Bluebell Liquid Dish Soap sells for $3.99 (16 oz) at the Mrs. Meyer's website. Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day also offers Bluebell Countertop Spray, Liquid Hand Soap, All-Purpose Cleaner, Laundry Detergent, and Fabric Softener.

I too dislike dish washing, and I don’t have a dishwasher so I will complain! And I do, all the time. I haven’t see the bluebell yet, but will sniff it next time I see it. I did just purchase the Rhubarb hand soap from Mrs. Meyer’s and I LOVE it! Very realistic, to me and the scent does linger on the hands a bit (which may be a no-go for some perfumistas as it may interfere!) They aren’t all hits though, I find the Basil truly gross. Had to give that one away.

I need to try the Rhubarb sometime!

I haven’t tried the Bluebell scent but we have the whole line of Basil fragranced products and we love them!

i love the idea of a floral dish soap! i am loyal to caldrea (basil blue sage, sea salt neroli – both are complex perfumes and make washing dishes an actual pleasure, i swear) but i will definitely try this. thanks!

I think Caldrea’s Sea Salt & Neroli would make a good subject for a future review!!

The hand wash with the Geranium scent makes me feel happy! It’s intense enough to have a “presence,” but it’s not overwhelming.

I’m so glad you reviewed this. I was just wondering if this would be nice. . .I can’t find it locally, and would have to order it online. I’ve tried the Geranium, and enjoyed it. I just recently purchased the Rosemary dish soap, and it is my current favorite. It is not as strongly scented as the Geranium, but I think I like it better. Bluebell sounds just the ticket, though, and I’d love to try it. I’m bummed I missed Parsley; a friend has the hand soap and I love that one, clean fresh herbs. Wish it were still available in other cleaning products.

I love the idea of pleasant scented cleaning products to encourage me to do more household chores. My weird trick is to use a damp cloth to dust with a very dilute solution of warm water mixed with a touch of fabric softener. Then I go behind it with a dry cloth. Everything smells nice, and seems to attract less lint :D May your cleaning chores be quick and satisfying!

Hemlock, I like that idea for dusting! I’ve been trying to think of an alternative to my usual aerosol can of Pledge, lol…

I love the Caldrea Sea Salt and Neroli too but can’t wait to try this Bluebell too! I love hearing about scented household products because they make household chores more pleasant. Thanks for the review!

Maggiecat, I completely agree — a nicely fragranced product really does make me less cranky about washing the dishes, wiping down the countertop, etc. Mind (and nose) over matter!

Am I really the only one who can’t stand her dishes and cutlery smelling of flowers? I don’t mind washing-up liquids that smell of edible plants (like rosemary, basil, etc., but flowers… nope. I use one that doesn’t really smell of anything much. I think household products are too strongly scented now. *runs away*

I TOTALLY agree! I find Mrs. Meyers products way too overpowering. Even the geranium gives me a headache. Lemon Verbena isn’t too bad. But I am the same way – I don’t use anything perfume like to wash dishes! Yuk!! I find the laundry detergents just SO overdone with their fragrances – what ever happened to lightly scented ANYTHING??

I really like Mrs. Meyer’s — are this Bluebell and the new Rhubarb one available in stores or only by mail order? I only see the traditional lineup in most of my local stores that carry it. I’m especially excited to smell the Rhubarb as I love that tart, zingy smell.

I’m just about to the end of the second of two bottles of the annual LE holiday “Orange & Clove” scent they put out. My favorite Mrs. Meyer’s are the Basil and Lemon Verbena. I normally love geranium scents, but for some reason, sniffing that one hasn’t compelled me to want to buy it. I have a bit of the lavender left, but that one is WAY too strong for me… I do not like it. Might be good as a hand soap though.

    Thanks for this review!
