Diptyque Volutes ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 1 June 2012 12 Comments

Diptyque Volutes video still

French niche line Diptyque will launch Volutes, a new fragrance for women:

The voyage of your dreams. A long haul crossing, stopping off at a number of places with magical names, all redolent of adventure and spice.

Volutes, it’s a shape and a scent, intimately linked : the volute* and tobacco. It’s also the scent of the labyrinth of waxed corridors and panelled lounges, the mysterious, and elegant ladies leaning on the ship’s rail smoking their Khedive cigarettes.

Volutes was developed by perfumer Fabrice Pellegrin; notes include iris, honey, tobacco and spices.

Diptyque Volutes is expected to launch this fall; I will update with sizes and concentration when I can.

(quote and video still image via vimeo, additional information via extrait.it)

* Volute de fumée is a curl of smoke.

Update: Diptyque Volutes will be available in 50 ml Eau de Toilette and 75 ml Eau de Parfum. Additional notes include wax, dried fruit, pink pepper, black pepper, saffron, hay, immortelle, myrrh, storax, opopanax and benzoin.

Another update: see a review of Diptyque Volutes.

This sounds interesting…. and a little atypical.

Will be interesting to see if it’s in their usual (recently) sheer style, or if it has some body. Sounds nice to me though!

      I agree!
I like this list of notes.
And the image/inspiration too: I am very fond of smoky accents (if the fragrance doesn’t go too bitter, which souldn’t be the case here: iris and honey sound like great partners for smoky notes…).
But lists of notes can be so misleading…

They really can be misleading! And it’s been awhile since I loved a new Diptyque. I will keep my fingers crossed.

I love the image/inspiration for this and the list of notes sound good. I do hope it has a bit more oomph than Diptyque normally has, though!

      I hope so too.

Oh PLEASE let this be like Amouage Memoir on my skin so I can make my wallet happy! :(

ION I cant wait to try this! It’ll be my first Diptyque I’ll try, so I’ll have a fresh look on it.

Well gosh, not likely — Diptyque is so different from Amouage! But you never know, right?

Well going by notes, it’s smokey, with slight spice and some sweetness… It probably won’t be like an Amouage, but the notes might appeal to me if they’re similar to Memoir on my skin, which is just smokey-sweet heaven :D

Sounds intriguing…will look forward to sampling this. So many Diptyque scents are nears misses for me. Eau Duelle, on the other hand, is love.

I have to start keeping track of the must try’s for the Fall — this one, the JM Blackberry and probably a few others I failed to note down!

Smelled this today (it’s not officially out yet but the SA had a tester in a cupboard)! It opened up with iris and then very quickly developed into a sweet, tobacco scent. Definitely not a sheer one this time although I can’t decide how I feel about that kind of development; it felt like smelling two completely different perfumes.
