Kelly & Jones Notes of Wine Collection ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 31 May 2012 8 Comments

Kelly & Jones Notes of Wine Collection

Kelly & Jones is a new brand "...inspired by the aroma and sensoriality of the wine world"; they debut with five fragrances in the Notes of Wine Collection:

Our inspiration began in the vineyard, with all the nuances of the fragrance of wine that end up as the bouquet in the glass -‐ accords of citrus, tannins, woody oak, flowers and fruits that also smell gorgeous on the skin.

#1 Notes of Sauvignon Blanc ~ "A crisp, refreshing unisex blend of yuzu grapefruit, starfruit, green apple and a hint of camellia flower".

#2 Notes of Riesling ~ "Luscious notes of peach, pear, Italian bergamot and raspberry leaf. Like biting into ripe orchard fruit during a vineyard picnic."

#3 Notes of Cabernet ~ "This swoon-‐worthy blend has spicy notes of pink peppercorn, ripe black cherry and tobacco flower on a gorgeous base of vintage leather."

#4 Notes of Merlot ~ "A smooth, balanced essence and beautiful blend of red currant, mission fig, rhubarb and lovely candied violet."

#5 Notes of Chardonnay ~ "A rich, vibrant and seductive blend of sweet honeydew melon, vanilla blossom and luscious crème brulee all rounded out on a base of toasted oak."

The Kelly & Jones Notes of Wine Collection fragrances are $84 each for 50 ml Eau de Parfum at the Kelly & Jones website. A sample set is $20.

I think I just now noticed why I hate 90% of the wines that people attempt to pick out for me (and around 60% of the cabernets.)

This is an interesting idea, but why does everything seem so lightweight lately? It’s verging on severely irritating. Is it a consequence of the relentlessly fresh trend?

Hard to say if these are lightweight or not because I haven’t tried them, but utterly true that heavy fragrances are not in style these days.

It’s not even a question of heavy so much, even. It’s just that damn near everything I’ve tried for months has been so damn sheer!

These are not that sheer. They aren’t classically “heavy” either – balanced enough for anytime wear, for sure.

I really like these and I’m not sure why. It’s as if she’s made some fruity florals that DON’T make you want to spork out your own eye. (Or, if you are a clearer minded thinker, the repetitive marketer/nose who brought you same.) They are lovely blends, really well done, and not girly-pretty – I really enjoy the Sauvignon Blanc, and the Merlot. Considering FB-levels of enjoy. It is probably not an accident that in wines, I enjoy… Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot. But the perfumes are more evocative of the scents than representative. And did I mention lovely?

Plus the creator of the line (Kelly) is in fact super-nice.

KateReed, I’m lucky, I like sheer. I don’t always like sheer + clean, unfortunately, which is really the modern way.

Not only that, but a lot of fragrances (after a test week of only Amouage) disappoint because there is a complete lack of development! Everything seems so linear 🙁

I think the Cab sounds interesting- actually maybe it’s just making me thirsty! A spicy Shiraz would also be interesting. I’m not so sure though that it would be all that pleasant to smell like a winery or rather a wino!

The Merlot sounded best to me, and yes, it made me hungry! Figs & rhubarb sound perfect.
