I'm having a terribly busy week, hence the laziest poll we ever posted on a Thursday: what's your scent of the day?1
Coming up on Saturday, by the way, will be our yearly haiku challenge, in case anyone wants to start working on one (or more!) now. You can find the "rules" in the 2011 haiku poll, and you can also check out the 2010 version for more inspiration.
My scent of the day: I'm wearing L'Artisan's (discontinued) Jacinthe des Bois. Tea is Upton's Spring Dragon oolong. I have not yet started on the chocolate, but I'm sure I will.

1. I should note that we did once do this same poll on a Friday.
SOTD is Clive Christian 1872 for men. Yesterday it was Lolita Lempicka Au Masculin. Tomorrow, who knows for sure? 🙂
I never know what I’ll wear tomorrow!
Sometimes I’ll get an indication today (mentally, if that makes sense) about what I will wear tomorrow. Usually I’ll think of something that reminds me of a fragrance, and that is what I’ll apply if I can just remember that fleeting thought! 🙂
My SOTD is Isabey Fleur Nocturne. My last experience of composing a haiku in senior school bombed. But I do appreciate a good one. About the pic above, I guess Frasier finally manage to find a place to dump Martin’s chair!
hahaha-yes!
Good one! 😀
I confess, I really miss “Frasier.” Every now and then I catch it in reruns.
Bath and Body Works Coconut Lime Verbena. No shame. I needed this happy mood-booster today!
Oh, I do like CLV! It’s the only BBW scent I like.
Another fan of Coconut Lime Verbena – so refreshing.
SOTD Prada Infusion de Vetiver. Perfect for a cool, possibly rainy spring day.
I’m wearing the Iris 🙂 It has grown on me, since I hated it the first time I tried it – now I think it may be my signature scent.
If only I put on some Infusion d’Homme this morning we’d be like three musketeers now 😉
It is a gorgeous scent. My bottle is soon empty, and I will buy again.
Good choice! Been toying with a purchase of this one for years. Sounds like the perfect conditions for it.
SOTD Les Senteurs Gourmands Prune Jasmin as I’m trying to stay out of some delicious chocolates that are calling to me by smelling delicious instead. 🙂
Hope it works!
SOTD Vetyverio
I do love vetiver 🙂
Found some nice khus incense in an Indian supermarket on Devon Avenue…
Hope things ease off soon, Robin!
It’s raining here but it’s relatively warm and it feels like everything is finally turning green so SOTD is Bandit. I was this close to choosing OJ Champaca and even though Bandit won today, I lined up Champaca for tomorrow.
Everything will be back to normal by Monday 🙂
I made a nice discovery this week. I’ve found a small niche perfume boutique in an Old Town district of my university city. Smelled Amouage, Montale and few other for the 1st time in my life. And also few samples are on their way.
Today’s scent is Marc Jacobs Rain, from this year’s Tropical Splash collection of 100ml EDT.
What a wonderful discovery for you. It’s fantastic you’ll have a shop like that to visit. It is such a joy to sniff in a good shop!! There’s no chance for that to ever happen where I live. Sometimes I have this dream that I stumble into a re-sale or antique shop that has a hidden closet of vintage fragrances…. it’s one of my favorite dreams!
Oh I know that dream too. But more often I take an imaginary sniffathlon trying to imagine the smell of perfume that sound pretty just by the way they’re being described. I’ll always have hope that one day I’ll smell what yet remains unsniffed.
They didn’t have a very wide range but at least they had something new, and nose likes new encounters.
I love smelling new things too. It’s gotten to the point where my favorite SA in Saks. Thought of me when the new Killians came in and she even made me samples before the carded ones came in. At Barney’s one of the SAs handed me a new book of tester strips since I’m there so often
It’s good to have a trusted and friendly SA. Just yesterday my SA friend pulled out bottles of Marc Jacobs Rain, Kumquat and Hibiscus and made me samples, even though the fragrances weren’t displayed at the shop yet.
Never had that dream but I did win a big lot (36 bottles!) of vintage perfume off ebay and am having fun sniffing those
That’s a lot of sniffing! I wish I had my nose so busy 😉
What a find, Lucas – enjoy!
I am and I will. Finaly found a way to sniff some niche perfumery.
I am honeymooning in Vegas and yesterday I won $391 on a three dollar bet. I gave my husband $100 and made my way over to Hermes and bought my very own FB of Osmanthe Yunnan! Will spray myself lavishly tonight for our Elton John show!
Lucky you! Congrats and enjoy every drop of Hermes!
Thanks!
Congratulations on your honeymoon and win and have a great time at the concert!
Thank you!
wow congrats!
Congratulations x2!
Yay you!
What fun, congrats!
Congratulations, and we wish you many happy years together! And enjoy that Osmanthe Yunnan.
Joining in on the congrats! Hope you keep winning too!
How wonderful! Enjoy your honeymoon! Best wishes 🙂
Congrats on everything! You smell great!
OY will give you such lovely memories of your honeymoon
What a wonderful scent association for this happy time in your life. Congratulations and best wishes!!!
Guerlain – Iris Ganache
We share a love of iris then!
Ineke Chemical Bonding. It’s my first experience with Ineke, I recevied it in a pack of random samples and I’m enjoying it so much I’m eyeing the line’s $25 sampler pack.
Oh, I’ve wanted that sample pack forever! But I keep talking myself out of it since I haven’t made my way through the mass of Parfum d’Empire samples yet.
That Parfums d’Empire sample set is impressive. I’ve only tried two of umpteen so far (two months after getting the set).
Yes, that’s about my speed as well!
Hi, Rappleyea! I discovered a small niche perfume boutique in an Old Town district of my university city and tried Parfum d’Empire, now I’m tempted with their full line discovery set too.
What fun! I’d definitely recommend the discovery set, Lucas. It has all of their scents, very nicely presented.
I keep forgetting there is a PdE sample set! Not that I’ve completed the last two or three sets I ordered yet…
It’s a really wonderful line.
MY S0tD is Annick Goutal Pour Cherie Par Camille (my what a mouthful).
SOTD
LOL! *This* is my SOTD! I forgot to wear any today. 🙁
SOTD is Bas de Soie, now that Abyss, Ladymurasaki, and Lys helped me crack the mystery of the disfunctional atomizer during the previous lazy-day post. Thanks, all of you.
I’m glad you’ve managed to sort it out! Enjoy Bas de Soie.
SOTD is Tubereuse 3 Animale – I truly love it!
I really like this one, too! Have a sample of it. It was one of twelve I ordered in two discovery sets at Histoires de Parfums. But my fave is 1725 Casanova.
Lucasai, I haven’t tried Casanova. A few years ago I ordered some HdP samples mostly to try Noir patchouli, but Casanova is not among them. The Noir Patchouli didn’t impress me and I forgot about this line until lately. I also like Moulin Rouge, but not as much as T3A.
I ordered 2 sets two weeks ago, 1725 in a number of 6 samples and 6 others. Moulin Rouge is great!
SOTD is Caron Or et Noir. Used up the very last drop of my decant.
Time for a bottle then?
Chanel Gardenia. Very pretty!
Yes, and a classic.
Oh yay! I loved the haikus last year.
SOTD: Was testing Shalimar Initial. Now onto Bond New York Oud.
Shalimar is one of my desert island scents so I was very wary of the Initial but…it’s not bad. Makes me think of French patisseries. Shalimar is the woman in the corner, still wearing last night’s sexy dress and sipping her coffee with a satisfied air and the Initial is the bright young thing who has popped in for a treat after that morning’s Pilates session
and looks at Shalimar over in the corner through faintly envious eyes.
So far, New York Oud is still Mecurochrome band-aid but I’m only 15 mins in…
I kind of love New York Oud. But I rarely wear it because it’s so strong, and the medicinal smell is so distracting. I have a vial, wrapped in that bon-bon style wrapping that Bond does, sitting in my desk drawer at work. Every time I open the drawer I can smell it. So warning – be careful about spilling or getting on clothing.
Thanks for the warning! I’ve just dabbed a bit for the first test and I’m so glad I did- this stuff is potent. I’m just wondering when something other than band-aid and now rubbing alcohol will make an appearance?
That one was total armpit on me.
I like that Shalimar too! I need to find something to combine with it so that I could wear it without thinking “I’m wearing a perfume for women, what do I do now?”
Love your descriptions of Shalimar and Initial. I can picture them so well!
I think I need to wear Shalimar later tonight. I do like the Initial too…I barley get any vanilla…lots of iris though seriously I think a man can wear any of the Shalimar’s (it’s one of my son’s favorite)
SOTD is Vivla La Juicy, wanted something lighthearted, fruity and bright (hey!! It’s sunny!!). It is totally hitting the spot.
I have a couple perfume note recommendation questions for this especially lazy poll! Must-try coconut scents? My new man–if I can still call him that–*loves* coconut smells, as evidenced by his near swooning over surfboard wax. Any go-to tropical coconutty perfume recs so I can indulge him?
Also, I have a friend with a burgeoning interest in perfume whose birthday is coming up. She said she wanted to sample a bunch of lily scents so she could find the perfect one; I think I’ll send her a sample pack of lily scents.. Suggestions?
Afternoon Meg!
May I suggest Honore Des Pres Love Coco. I personally don’t know that one as I’m not much into coconuts but it has a coconut milk note and natural coco essence.
There is (or was?) one from Armani, called Diamonds Black Carat it smelled of coconuts too.
Meg – I seem to recall, though it’s been a while since I tested it, that Parfums de Nicolai Juste en Reve has a delightul tropical flowers with sheer coconut watery type note in it. It is just tropical enough to be in that genre, but no way like suntan oil. Sheer and very pretty.
Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess, Pacific Indian Coconut Nectar, the original Harajuku Lovers ‘G’, Yves Rocher Coconut. HdP Love Coco was nice, but smelled too much like Thai food for me – if you want a non-sweet one, then try that or the new EldO, which I’ve also heard is more savory.
Seconding Bronze Goddess.
Hi Meg – how about Parfumerie Generale or liaisons Dangereuses? How about Baiser Vole or Stella McCartney’s LILY for the lily?
Seconding Baiser Vole
That is a coincidence! My scent of the day is Gold, by Donna Karan, a scent based upon lily. There is indeed a golden glow to it, and that’s why it reminds me of Le Parfum Sacre de Caron, which it has no resemblance to whatsoever. I think this might be an interesting one to try for your friend.
for lily, lys mediterranee of course (my favourite, there are other contenders, though). You are thinking of lily and not lily of the valley?
Parfums de Nicolai Violette in Love – an overlooked beauty!
The whole line is underappreciated, really. That is a pretty one.
I really like that one, too, Elizabeth – thanks for reminding me that I should move it to the forefront for spring!
SOTD=What We Do In Paris Is Secret
LOVE!
MY SOTD is No 5 eau Premier – just enough to make me feel better while I have a terrible cold. If I was feeling better it would have been DelRae Bois de Paradise!!!
Feel better soon, Ann!
Hope you feel better soon ANNS, what a coincidence that I wore 5 eau de Premier yesterday and I’m wearing Del Rae Boise de Paradise today… it’s cool and rainy here, I wanted to wear Voleur de Roses, but I could not spray anything out of my small decant, not sure if I need a fb of the “L’artisan or if I should order another decant, my coworker bathed in Light Blue.
I hate colds. Hope you feel better and your sniffer isn’t affected too much. It’s so frustrating when you can’t smell anything.
Ann S and ajuarez: we’re scent triplets: I also love Eau Premiere and Bois de Paradis and wear them frequently!!
SOTD is JM White Jasmine & Mint. Seemed good for a slightly cooler and cloudy spring day here in San Diego.
It is cool here too, at least for mid-May. Hope it warms up soon.
SOTD–L’Heure Convoitee
I started off testing Bas de Soie, decided it wasn’t me, washed it off and am now much happier in L’Heure Convoitee 🙂
Glad you found something that worked better!
I adore L’Heure Convoitee–I almost have enough saved for my full bottle but I find that if sampling takes a wrong turn, I come back to this and Lollia Relax–they both always feel perfect and easy
SOTD Chinatown. I don’t know if it’s too heady for my office but I’m operating on two hours’ sleep. I ran out of the house without having put on any perfume so I dug through my emergency stash and I really wanted to put on something that would make me less grumpy. It’s really helping.
It’s good to have an emergency stash 🙂
Doesn’t everyone have an emergency stash? I always have a few random samples in my purse……Maybe you should make that a poll question sometime
Angel body cream and some Darling Catalina from LPMP. It was a weird day here, raining, humid, warm, this kinda worked though.
My brain is blank — what is LPMP?
I had to google – Love Potion Magickal Perfumerie. I would never have guessed, cause I haven’t heard of them!
Sorry! I was on my phone and my phone just wasn’t having ‘magickal’ as a word!
FM En Passant for a sunny afternoon in the sixties, after several gray rainy days! I enjoy coming back to this fragrance every spring.
Me too. And my “real” lilacs are just about done for the year.
Cuir de Lancome: SOTD and almost every day lately. My two backup bottles just arrived in the mail. I think I’m in love.
Adore Cuir de Lancome. And yes, I bought a backup bottle myself!
SOTD is Sonoma Scent Studio Jour Ensoleillé. I’m loving the orange blossom, neroli, bees wax and more on a sunny warm spring day in northern CA.
Oh, another gorgeous one. The beeswax is so sensuous in it, I think.
SOTD is Chanel No. 19. I’ve been enjoying wearing that to work, and then freshening up with Cristalle EDT when I get home in the evenings and No. 19 has faded.
Emily, I can just image that No 19 and Christalle time-delay layer – wonderful. I have quite a few Chanel Les Exclusives samples (thank you thank you to a wonderful SA in Dubai!) – and they layer very well – ie one for the day, with another applied in the evening over the faded remains of the day scent. This works very well for Amougae Dia for day morphing into Amouage Gold in the evening too.
I have to try that!
No 19 and Cristalle–a great sequence. I’ve done the same thing.
Robin, you can do SOTD poll any day! – I love how it brings the NST community alive in a symphony of smells – this poll enables us to sense each other in the e-ether. Mine is Narciso Rodriguez For Her, “layered” as I am also wearing the spray deo. I am on a 3 day work related planning retreat, so most unusually, I am also wearing the same fragrance 3 days in a row! I wish this scent had more oomph, but then again I chose it, because I knew I’d need a comfort scent – as this is an “overwork” retreat. Planning during the day – answering a deluge of e-mails at night. Enough moans – smelling pretty enough.
Agreed! I love when everyone here gathers around when a Lazy Poll appears and everyone asks their online friends about their stuff and we share some interesting stories with each other!
I love lazy polls too. This will be a nice balance with the haiku thing on Saturday. I will be reading those but I don’t think I’ll be writing any.
Good, because it’s all I could manage today!
Hi Robin,
I agree with Ida Lucaisi and Poodle. It’s fun to check in, compare notes, see what everyone is enjoying.
SOTD has been Penhaligon’s Eau Sans Pareil, which I think is very pretty, almost a chypre eau. It fades a little too fast for me, though.
SOTEvening is going to be some vintage Chanel No. 19 edt, for Gaze’s middle school band concert… I’ll see if I can talk him into wearing some Midnight in Paris (discreetly, I promise).
We have our spring band concert next week. Do not think I’ll get my son in MiP though! Not for anything.
He thinks it’s girly?
As it turned out, Gaze rushed out of the house in a hurry and didn’t wear any fragrance. Ah well. I did see him chatting up the cute blonde trombone player afterward…
Creed Love in White this morning. Bottega Veneta tonight.
What a beautifully scented day you’ll have!
Quite satisfied, yes. Thank you 🙂
I’ve been going steady with Bottega Veneta since Christmas. It’s lush!
Im in love with it too! Angelas beautiful review inspired me to check it out, and I sure wasn`t disappointed. “Soft as a kittens ear” as she wrote. Ah, bliss!
Perfume of the day is my new bottle of Bottega Veneta Eau de Parfum, recommended by the Monday Mail. Yesterday was Killian – Bamboo Water sample that is sadly gone. It had much better staying power than other citrus like scents I have.
Glad you fell in love with BV!
today I’m trying out MFK’s oud for the first time, it is not at all what I expected, it reminds me strongly of Diptyque’s Ofrésia, strange
That is weird! I need to try it again, only so far very quickly on paper.
SOTD is Tabac Aurea. I like it but I think I like Incense Pure a teeny bit more. SOTE will be something warm and cozy because it’s still gray and rainy and I just want to curl up in a blanket. I think it may be a night for Tea For Two or Sensuous.
I keep a sample vial of Incense Pure here at my desk and sniff it constantly! Isn’t it wonderful?!?
It is wonderful. I have a thing for incense. I may have to get a FB of it because it has some staying power on me too.
My SOTD: Boyfriend from the mini oil rollerball. Purchased this for a whopping $10 at Sephora yesterday when I discovered I’d traveled on an overnight trip and (horror of horrors) forgot to bring perfume with me!!! It’s not a bad scent. Reminding me a bit of YSL’s Nu?
Really? I’ve seen a lot of positive comments on Boyfriend but never a reference to Nu. Now my curiosity is definitely piqued!
Can’t comment on the EDP cause I haven’t tried it…only the oil. But it’s definitely giving me that Nu vibe!
I got that oil rollerball, too – I kind of like it better than the edp – a little softer.
Almost bedtime here in Norway now. So plan for tomorrow: Parfumerie Générale No.19, Louanges Profanes.
My SOTD is Keiko Mecheri Datura Blanche. I’m working from home today so big white floral is OK.
SOTE: Bond New York Oud
I think I have finally forums a rose that works for me! Once I get past the Band-Aid stage , which, to be fair, is oddly compelling, the rose/saffron goodness kicks in with a shot of honey to help smooth it along. Lovely stuff!
Cuarzo Signature’s Sapphire
Love the Amber, Tonka Bean, and Benzoin with the Musk!!!
Yummmmy!!!!
I’m testing my first ever batch of samples! I tried Ormonde Jayne Fragipani Absolute first….It was ok. I was so disappointed because it didn’t smell anything like I thought it would and it really just reminded me of J’adore…only nicer. I didn’t like it. I wish I had. And it wore completely off in three hours. No more smell at all. BUT the second one is L’artisan L’Chasseaux Papillions and I love it! I can tell its not going to last as long as I like so a ” shout out” here…Has anyone tried L’artisan’s body creme or any other body products to see if the layering makes the scent last longer? This is gorgeous! : )))
This morning was cold and rainy here, so I put on Magical Moon by Hanae Mori to boost my spirits with its fruity/floral cheerfulness.
SOTD is a bit of a trio of scents. I wore Tauer’s wonderful Le Maroc pour elle yesterday, and as a lot of rain was announced for today I put on Goutal’s Eau du Ciel this morning. The Tauer is a bomb and some must have ended up in my hair. Anyway, I got occasional whiffs of it during the day, which made for quite a nice combination. By evening the Eau du Ciel had vanished and as I had a party to go to I put on some Un Matin d’Orage ( it was still raining). Miraculously this revived the Tauer as well so I had another Goutal-Tauer mix. Lovely again actually.
I’m wearing a trio too! Have a little Eau de beax for warmth on – but also felt like some ‘freshness’ so some christalle eau de Verte on one wrist and Allure Blanche on the other. I have the first two but am strongly considering the third (Blanche). Does anyone know if it IS a limited edition and any opinions on whether it is too masculine for a woman?
I have been moaning to Angela today about Diorissimo EDP being heavy on the tuberose. It’s my scent of the afternoon and I am trying hard to see past those big fat tuberoses strangling out the muguet.
SOTD is DSH Tubereuse, which is smelling better than ever to me today, not sure if it’s because I haven’t worn it in a while or because it actually improved with age! I’m getting less green edge in the top notes and more woody sweetness. Yum yum tum. I will re-buy this one when my purse spray is gone.
SOTD was DSH American Beauty. I just recently got a big sample order and am working my way through them. I have been on a rose kick lately, and AB is one of the nicest rose soliflores I have tried, and it even has decent staying power on my perfume-eating skin.
My SOTD was pretty, but long gone now, or I just can’t smell it anymore – VC&A Gardenia Petale. It’s finally warming up here, at least for now, so I can start wearing the light stuff again. Yay! I always think I have a predominantly winter scent wardrobe but I really do have a lot of spring and summer perfumes. Of course, living in the Bay Area I can wear pretty much whatever I want any time. I can pretend we have seasons, though.
We have our own seasons here. We should figure out what’s good to wear during fire season. Or fog season.
What will you wear when The Big One hits?
Here on the Gulf Coast, we have seasons. They are pre-summer, early summer, mid-summer, hotter- than-Hades summer, late summer, post-summer, and not-summer.
That seems accurate. Lol.
SOTD (and SOTW) OJ Woman. Today at work while inside an elevator with several people…i thought someone sure smells good…and realized it was me!
Taking a big brave chance and wearing Tuscan leather by Tom Ford ! I really love it but have to really push myself to wear it as its a commitment scent ! Out of all the fragrances I wear I get a lot of inquires about this one but little compliments on it ! I guess it’s intriguing but not the most rewarding pay off ! I actually like it better on my partner or someone else ,
SOTD was Ava Luxe Fig Leaf – a very green fig, perfect for the day.
SOTD: Lolita Lempicka. The bottle just demanded my attention this morning.
SOTD Mitsouko Fleur de Lotus. Very nice.
Deneuved all week. Rough day at work, so it was gone by noon. Dipped into my Juniper Sling sample for a pick me up. The love child of Bombay Sapphire and Jovan Grass Oil.
Busy day here, too, so I never got around to putting any scent on, but I am SO sleeping in L’AP Vanille Absolument (ex Havana Vanille) tonight!
Sleeping with vanilla, cool! Very calming
SOTD and now evening is Cruel Gardenia. L o n g lasting. This is in my top five.
I’m responding very late but that’s how my life has been…no time during working hours and then too busy in the evening (what little I have). But I am posting at this late hour regarding the combination of two fragrances I wore today–first sprayed SL’s Eau Froida, liberally, followed by a few small spritz’s of CdeG Avignon. Maybe it’s me, but I thought the combination was wonderful. If anyone tries the combo, let me know what you think. A good weekend to all!
Haven’t tried the SL yet but I do love Avignon.
Of course I meant Eau Froide–sorry!
SOTD Delrae Bois de Paradis aka “Secretly a Rich Lady and not a working stiff”…
Bottega Veneta from a sample vial. I like, but don’t love it, so no FB.
Help! I applied Fracas from a sample (directly from RP) and I can barely smell anything. Can it be me, the sample, the weather(rainy)? Anyone else have this problem? My last, which was my first, sample, seemed fine and smelly. Years ago this was a scrubber, but now I really want a bottle – but not if it’s too weak or I can’t get any tuberose.
Thanks for any help.
My sotd is Love’s Baby Soft! My hubby surprised me with a gift set he found at a yard sale today. It’s not the epitome of sophistication, but it makes a good bedtime/home-all-day scent.
I’m so lazy I’m responding to the Laziest Thursday poll on SATURDAY. Scent of the day was Liz Zorn’s Riverwalk. 🙂
Lazier than everyone. Posting on MOTHER’s Day. Balmoral Rain by Royal Apothic/London Las Angeles.
