Guerlain Mon Precieux Nectar ~ new perfume

Posted by Robin on 17 April 2012 18 Comments

Guerlain Mon Précieux Nectar

Guerlain has launched Mon Précieux Nectar, a reissue of a 2009 limited edition fragrance that was available in a crystal fountain, the Fontaine Imperiale (reportedly 35 one-liter bottles were made). Mon Précieux Nectar now joins the Les Parisiennes collection.

A mouth-watering and addictive fragrance, whose exotic notes will make you travel faraway. Its timeless fragrance trail recalls creations that were milestones in the history of perfumery. Vacillating between delicacy and voluptuousness, it reveals its true personality. At times it is dry and soft, at others enveloping or deliciously tender, one can only marvel at such olfactory complexity.

The notes feature petit grain, bitter almond powder, orange blossom, jasmine, sandalwood, gaiac wood, vanilla, white musk and incense.

Guerlain Mon Précieux Nectar can be found now for pre-order at Saks Fifth Avenue or Bergdorf Goodman, in 125 ml Eau de Parfum, $270.

Mon Precieux Nectar will be available as (Extrait de) Parfum, not Eau de Parfum. You can look it up at monsieurguerlain.com :-)

It seems unlikely to me that they are offering 125 ml of Extrait at that price…but I will see if I can find any official confirmation.

The SA in the Las Vegas store told me EDP, said a bunch of customers keep asking her if it’s the extrait but she tells them it isn’t.

Could the box be mislabeled? or could the designation “parfum” refer to the % concentration with this EDP being particularly hefty – maybe it’s a 20+% EDP so they labeled it “parfum” altho it’s still really the EDP b/c it’s not as hefty as the original extrait. Maybe I should stop speculating. Guerlain does seem to have a track record of weird designations.

But I second (third) EDP – extrait at that price would make the original fountain less “precieux.”

Don’t know, admit it makes little difference to me…the concentrations for EdP & Parfum can overlap anyway, so to some extent it’s all just marketing-speak.

I am very pleased to see this join the Les Parisiennes line up and I think I agree with Robin – this is EDP that has been re launched. I do hope they make the extrait available too ! i foudn the prfu mvery very sweet though and I’m hopnig the EDP won’t be. :) Yay ! Doesn’t that bottle with that dark gold fluid looks so so good ?

Do an image search, though…it doesn’t look that dark in every picture. No idea what color the “real” juice is.

Sounds like a very decadent smelling fragrance!

Could be, although to my mind, white musk should not be in a decadent fragrance ;-)

This sounded very appealing, until I read “white musk”. Sigh. If I stumble over it, I’ll try it. But with white musk, it does not sound promising. At least not for my skin.

Notes sound intriguing. The flacon looks like a travel back in time – to Lucretia Borgia’s nightstand perhaps ;-)

Does anybody know if there has been a reformulation? I have a sample of MPN extrait and I don’t remember smelling any incense. I guess I am going to have to get a sample of this one and compare.

Is the bottle different from any other Parisiennes? It looks so beautiful on the picture above.

99% sure it’s the usual bottle w/ strange lighting.

FWIW incense was listed as a note in the original formula. If you get to compare, it would be cool to hear what you think!

Also, it’s the normal Parisienne bottle. I’ve seen it elsewhere where the juice looks much lighter in color, so perhaps it’s been photoshopped from a picture taken against a darker background. The image does make the juice look lux!

My Precioussssssssss Nectar didn’t really impress me much. Nice, but “no big whoop,” as they say.

And I’m annoyed that I paid ~$8 per mL from someone who split “la Fontaine Impériale.”

I later swapped most it away and got stuck with something I didn’t really think I had asked for. That last part isn’t Guerlain’s fault, of course, but overall, this thing has left a bad impression on me.

I have to say that I have a decant of the original and I just love it. I have been using it quite sparingly on special days. Now, I can use it more often, knowing I can obtain more. To me it was one of those delightful experiences (as I had with Yosh’s Trompeur) where my pleasure with the scent was equalled by compliments from others. I prefer my own taste to other people’s, but when the two coincide, it’s great.

It’s a parfum and Disneyland Carries it.
