But his vision for a perfume, he explains, "stops the moment it is put on the market."
"From that point onwards it is a child setting off on its own. Its [sic] is no longer mine to own -- people make it theirs, and that is fine by me."
— Perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena, from Meet Jean-Claude Ellena, 'scent writer' for Hermes at Yahoo News.
Interesting interview, though we’ve heard many of those points before. I’m doubting his “final say” on the prices of the perfumes.
The following statement also seemed a bit odd: “In a perfect world, I wish perfumes were never worn at all.” What a sad perfect world that would be.
It is like a press release, and not sure what it’s in aid of at the moment — Santal Massoia? His new book?
Isn’t that like a vinter saying, “In a perfect world, I wish wines were never drunk at all”?
LOL…and perhaps they do feel that way, I don’t know!
Un Jardin au Kerala? Is this something new in the Jardin series?
No — it referred to Un Jardin après la Mousson.
Thanks for the clarification, R.
No problem – for a quick second, I thought the same & was excited!
🙁
JCE is not only a great perfumer. He’s a so intelligent person. Every interview I’ve read from him he teached something! Now I undertand the origin of his inspiration, his house seems to be out-of-this-world. Hah, and such an interesting thing: How can a perfumer walk unscented? I know he explained, but it may not enter my mind. I woud walk with a private scent!
