L’Artisan Parfumeur Batucada ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 23 August 2011 35 Comments

L'Artisan Parfumeur Batucada

L'Artisan Parfumeur will launch Batucada, a new unisex fragrance, in September. Batucada was inspired by the Brazilian samba style of the same name, and more generally by the flavors and colors of Brazil.

Batucada was developed by perfumers Karine Vinchon and Elisabeth Maier; the notes include lemon, coconut, caipirinha accord (mint, lime and sugar cane), mint, tiare, ylang ylang, amber, benzoin, sandalwood, vetiver, vanilla and musk.

L'Artisan Parfumeur Batucada will be available in 50 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette.

hmmm…kinda sound like a tropical drink – pina colada?

No, a caipirinha is a drink in it’s own right, although way too sweet for me, they are fairly tasty in small sips.

With the coconut, it really does sound more like a pina colada than a caipirinha…but either way, sounds good to me!

With this name and reference to Brazil. I’m curious abouth how they will express theirs thoughts about. A lot of Frenchs don’t see with good eyes Brazilian people. Unfortunetly, there are a lot of prejudice involved.

Perhaps, but this is just a perfume…and one of the perfumers is Brazilian. I think it will just smell nice & tropical.

Seems like a strange choice for a fall release… it sounds so summery. That said, I have no idea if L’AP is even in the habit of releasing things seasonally.

Well, it’s almost spring in Brazil and the rest of the lower hemisphere.

Didn’t mean to be upper-hemishere-centric! I just figured they were based in Paris and that would be their seasonal-orientation. Are they released widely in SA?

Meg, I live in Buenos Aires, Argentina and I have NEVER seen a L’Artisan outside of my closet. :-P
Nevertheless, they might be available in Brasil, which has a market almost 5 or 6 times bigger than us, and less protectionism on imports.

          :-)

            Kaos,
Unfortunately, for fragrances the Brazilian market is so or more protectionist than the argentinian, our import tax is about 60%, L’Artisan fragrances are as rare as seeing Lionel Messi playing well in the Argentinian’s team.

Perhaps this was prepared to launch this brand into the Brazilian market.

Thanks for some clarification Kaos. I hope they come to your area eventually!

I don’t think this was prepared to launch this brand into the Brazilian market, “Batucada” is a vulgar name, I think to english spoken markets it could be an exotic name with some marketing appeal but to Brazilian Market is a dreadful name for a luxe perfume.

Curiosities: A 100ml Bottle of Eau du Soir in Brazil: about $610; one bottle of Angel 30ml: about $200. Could you believe that???

      Same…sounds like summer to me.

WOW, prices in Brazil = crazy!

And I’m always moaning about how much more perfume costs in South Africa than America or England! One shop here sold Penhaligons but it didn’t sell well enough and (to my delight) they began selling L’Artisan as well. Unfortunately it seems this didn’t work either because without ANY warning they closed down. They had distribution rights so I don’t think we are going to have any more Penhaligon or L’Artisan here.

One small shop is selling off the few Penhaligons and L’Artisans they have at half price. I bought the Vanilia and am considering PassageD. Enfer. It wasn’t an immediate hit with me though so I think I will pass up on it. I was more keen on Dzing, Tea for Two and Chasse de Papillons (sp?) but they don’t have those. Already I am not absolutely convinced that I needed Vanilia!

A Caipirinha doesnt have mint in it. Its just Lime juice, Sugar, and Cachaca. What they have is more of a mojito accord. Im interested in smelling it anyway.

As a Brazilian guy I’m so glad that finally the “upper world” is watching us, Batucada is a typical brazilian name, only thing missing sell perfumes by L’Artisan here

Excuse my ignorance but I’m curious as to what you mean above by “’Batucada’ is a vulgar name”? “Vulgar” as in offensive or as in not-associated-with-luxury? Or something else?

        Alnysie,
“in not-associated-with-luxury” for sure, Batucada is a kind of informal reunion to people play the “Batuque”(everything that you can play like a drum), so it’s very strange someone to put a french fragrance togo on a “Batucada”.

While I’m always vaguely interested in anything L’Artisan….I find that my attention is beginning to turn to upcoming fall fragrances. I’m sure this will be around next spring and by then ; easy to find. :)

That sounds amazing! And also my favorite drink! Robin, It’s lime muddled with sugar, and a shot of Cachaca (rum) over ice. Not always overly sweet, as the rum is super strong, and it’s not meant to shock your teeth. It’s a creeper drink though….meaning when you decide to stand up you are tipsy. HA!

First I jumped for joy at the thought tha it may be another Pineapple Fizz in a different hat.

Now that I noticed it’s lacking both cedar and pineapple, I’m afraid it sounds like the love child of Azuree Soleil and Acqua di Gioia. :-)

I am normally so late to every party that there is no point in leaving a comment but for once I can make a contribution and say that I have my sample of Batucada and I like it. It is a tropical scent of course which I would probably wear in hot weather. There is a really nice coolness sensation about it created by the lime and mint but on the other hand there is the nutty warmth of coconut, sensuality of ylang-ylang and a juicy sweet note of rock melon somewhere in the middle. Smells very natural to me. Like most L’Artisan I have tried it is not loud, but definately there. I like it.
