very nice!
I still hate Angel.
oh well.
HA…I don’t think they’re going to change your mind at this point.
Oh Angel, you fickle b*tch. Love you but can’t wear you.
As for using Eva as the new face, I’m a fan, so she seems a good choice, non?
I think they’re wise to get a new “big name” every few years…gets them more publicity, keeps Angel in the public eye.
Wow, I’m impressed. I was totally dreading hearing her voice. lol I couldn’t help snickering when she entered the room and there was a smattering of applause but the images they showed were of the jaded musicians who were like “Ah, at last, the Diva is here.” 😛
Yes, some of the shots of the musicians were quite funny!
Robin, the EDT is now for pre-order on Nordies’ website!!!!!

Oh, I was thinking the same thing! Like that one man who’s face was totally -“uh, huh, another one of *these*”.
But her voice is cute – not really strong enough to carry off with an orchestra – but still cute.
Good point! Don’t try and sing with an orchestra if you’re not a professional…unless you are at home or in your car. lol And they built up to it so. I kept cringing when I thought she was going to start singing and then when she did I thought, “Oh! Well, that’s not *so* bad.” Kinda like when I watched The Tourist this weekend (Angelina Jolie/Johnny Depp flick). The critics trashed it so badly, I kept waiting for something horrible to happen and it never did. lol Not award winning or life altering, but I enjoyed it.
‘It is so dreamy’ LOL
This is the funniest thing I’ve seen in quite some time, from Robin’s sly (I hope) title to the musicians faces as they observe her walking in.
Her voice is awful, I could sing it better.
Thanks for the laughs Robin, intentional or not! 😉
I don’t think she’d better quit her day job, but her voice is probably adequate to the purpose, you know? I mean, it’s just a perfume commercial. We’ll have to wait and hear what it sounds like in the final commercial.
Toss up which would be less satisfying, personally: to be a contract musician on a gig like this, or a perfumer who spends all their time making generic fruity florals.
Okay, well. She’s a pretty little thing but a singer? No.
Thierry Mugler is entitled to use anyone they want for the commercial but as a musician, I am not enchanted by Eva’s breathy, little girl voice. Good song, though, and a nice arrangement.
She’s not a singer, but she doesn’t disgrace herself. But the song! Ugh, now I have an earworm. Of course, the words “written by Alan and Marilyn Bergman” preceding any song will pretty much guarantee I won’t like it. A good ad campaign for Angel, though.
Can you believe I’ve never sampled Angel? I must be the last perfumista on earth not to have tried it.
I will fess up before I make this comment and get tomatoes: I am 39. I love old jazz standards and big band stuff, Ella, Dinah, Tommy Dorsey, etc. But I’m watching this ad and wondering who is their target audience? It seems kind of a weird concept.
I thought: with all the anticipation and hype created, she must surely have a surprisingly nice voice! Couldn’t wait to hear it! Given the build-up, it wasn’t as good as I’d expected it to be. Then again, if there was no build-up and someone had randomly asked what kind of voice I thought Eva M had, I would have thought: not as nice as this whispy girly one. I think the weirdness and off-beat geekiness of it is pretty much Angel, as in: expect the unexpected. I love the scent very much, but it’s not as nice on me as on my man — the women’s version.
Not bad. Not great, but not bad.
She is the first non-blond face of Angel, isn’t she?
Had to check Images de Parfums — no, there have been at least 2 brunettes.
I’m not an Angel fan, but i do like perfume, and anything that gives work to all those great musicians is pretty durn good with me!
Despite the singing, I still like Eva. 🙂 Really, all that anticipation for… that? Oh well, it was still sort of a cute commercial, especially compared to most of the silly perfume ads out there.
In this era of clean scents that “double as room sprays,” I can’t decide if Angel is bravely sticking to their guns by being this big crazy mess of a fragrance, or if they just seem out of date like big hair and shoulder pads. Putting Eva as the face doesn’t help me in this quandary, either.
Yeah – she just did that sexy naked rolling around ad for Calvin Klein the other year… At least her clothes are on for this one!
😀
Love Eva Mendez.
I like Angel on my mother but prefer A*Men for myself.
It is nice to see an orchestra and if I had no expectations . . . but if someone is presenting themselves as a “singer” aren’t we allowed to expect a real voice?
I like the whole spoken singing vibe of Eva’s performance, and I like the use of a more mature-looking person for the fragrance this time around.
I am however sick of Angel, it’s so ubiquitous and let’s face it, if someone’s been wearing it around, you can smell it an hour after they left. Mostly I can’t get past the secret-cumin body odor vibe, so I guess I’m also a little sickENED of it. Sorry.
BUT … liking where this little ad campaign is going.
a) a LOT more interesting than most of these “making of” ads
b) the orchestra was amazing
c) real singers make singing look so easy – this makes me really appreciate good singers
d) can’t think of anything positive to say about that annoying song – the combination of the words and tune have always made me SHUDDER!!!!!!! why on earth did the Angel marketeers choose it?????????
I’m going to admit to being a Philistine who prefers the effect of a less-trained voice sometimes, and note that the way it contrasts with the Big Professional Orchestra here is really interesting.
I was also confused at who the target audience is supposed to be, as the ad seems a bit weird and clashy overall, but, now that I think of it, that’s kind of how I’d describe the fragrance it’s promoting. Maybe the marketers know what they’re doing after all!
The commercial just proves what a great song this is.
I could listen to the orchestral arrangement all-day. It was gorgeous. As for Eva Mendes’ vocals, let me just say I am not a fan.
The arrangement was unfortunately ruined by the “vocals”.
