Crazylibellule and The Poppies launched 26 Juin (Ile d'Yeu) in 2009, as the first fragrance in a promised series called "Tous les matins du monde." Although Crazylibellule is known primarily for its solid perfume "Crazysticks," 26 Juin was released in a liquid cologne format as well as a solid stick. Its fragrance notes include orange, peach, plum, rose, jasmine, lily of the valley, orange blossom, cardamom, black pepper, precious wood, vanilla and musk.
Ile d'Yeu is an island off the west coast of France; I've never been there, but I can imagine that it must be a lovely place to spend a mid-summer day. 26 Juin has the refreshing, effervescent feeling of a traditional Eau de Cologne, although its composition is described as a "fruity hesperidic floral." There's quite a bit of citrus in the top notes, including something lemony. The rest of the fragrance gives off a freshly-sliced peach note, the suggestion of a few green leaves, and a very cheerful plum-and-rose heart that would appeal to fans of Annick Goutal Quel Amour!. 26 Juin (Ile d'Yeu) is fizzy and juicy, sweet and tart, like a summer cocktail or a bite of candied fruit. Yet it also has just enough pepper and musk to balance all the fruit notes, and it never ends up smelling like all the summer flanker fragrances that clutter up the department-store counters at this time of year.
Crazylibellule's 26 Juin is one of my favorite fruity florals for casual wear; as we move into July and August, I'll be rotating it with Diptyque L'Ombre dans L'Eau and Clarins Eau des Jardins, two other favorites that counteract my discomfort on hazy-hot-and-humid days. I happen to prefer the spray formulation of 26 Juin, since the liquid has more sillage than the stick version. Its staying power is well above average for a cologne, but it's still light enough so that I can spritz it on generously. 26 Juin's packaging, decorated with a cascade of summer-bright floral motifs, is sweetly chic (like all Crazylibellule designs). And I have one more reason, a personal one, for enjoying 26 Juin (Ile d'Yeu): June 26 is my birthday, so I can imagine that this fragrance was created especially for me when I wear it.
Crazylibellule and The Poppies 26 Juin (Ile d'Yeu) is available as liquid "L'Eau de Crazy Cologne" (200 ml) and a "Crazystick" solid fragrance (5 g). It was created as a limited edition, but you can still find it online with a little searching; also see the listing for Crazylibellule and The Poppies under Perfume Houses.
Wishing you a very happy birthday!
Thank you!! (I couldn’t resist mentioning that fact, apparently!)
If somebody named a perfume after my birthday, I wouldn’t be able to resist either 😉
Happy Birthday Jessica xx
Happy Birthday, Jessica :)! Which fragrance would define this past year of your life? Even if it’s something you wouldn’t necessarily wear?
Thank you, Littlecooling! 🙂
NLB, thank you! For a fragrance of my 2010-11, I’d say Chamade, which I started wearing earlier this year. A friend sent me a decant, and I couldn’t believe that I hadn’t fallen for it before. It’s very classic/modern, for a season when I’ve been trying to think hard about what’s most important to me! 🙂
Happy birthday, and thanks for the review! I haven’t actually tried any of their liquid scents yet and while I’ve enjoyed some of their solids, I just don’t wear solids often enough to warrant owning them. But I’ll be on the lookout for a chance to try some of their liquids, as they all sound like pretty, happy summer scents.
Hello! I have a few favorites amongst their “Crazysticks” collection — Rose a Saigon, Amoureuse, Blue Orchidee — but sometimes I just need to spritz!
Happy Birthday and thank you for another wonderful review!
I just finished a delicious piece of vanilla birthday cake with cream and strawberry slices in honor of someone else’s birthday. I hope you eat lots of something similar today.
Thanks, Pekefan! I did have some wonderful panna cotta with cherries yesterday, and some molten chocolate cake today, so I’m all set!
Happy Birthday, Jessica! You’ve made this sound lovely, and I need more scents for the hot and humid days of summer.
Jirish, The summer here has been mostly pleasant (with the exception of one brief, nasty heat wave last month), but I’m keeping my refreshing scents close at hand, just in case!
Happy Birthday! (They should always be celebrated!). My favorite Crazystick scent is their Musc and Patchouli, which is only available in solid. I’ve written to them a few times over the years asking for it to be made in edp but they are adamant that it be kept only in solid form. I wonder why they make some scents in liquid and others have to remain solid.
Melissajane, I’m not sure… the solid stick is their “signature,” but there *are* a few liquid scents in the line, so… maybe certain scents are really designed for the solid formula and just don’t work the same way as liquids?
Happy Birthday, J!! Hope you have a wonderful day!
I haven’t tried any of the liquid perfumes from this line..
Oh- and I am testing/wearing three roses on my arms, so will be thinking of you today..:D
Thanks, Lavanya! Rose is the June flower, after all. 🙂
Happy Birthday!!!
This sounds lovely and like something I would wear right now. Unfortunately, this brand is not available where I live. Maybe I can seek it out online or, hopefully, find something in that direction that smells great. I’ve always stayed away from fruity florals but now, for some reason, I’m craving something fruity and joyful, but well done.
Rosagreen, It’s always to have a few happy, uncomplicated scents on hand… they don’t have to be fancy, just nicely made!
(always *good* to have)
Happy Birthday, Jessica!
I’ve only tried their solids, but I like them very much, with Encens Mystic being my favorite. This sounds very nice, and standing up to heat and humidity is always a plus!
Thank you, Aparatchick! You know, I don’t see Crazylibellule around as often I used to, although I still like the line very much. I wonder why that is…
Happy Birthday, Jessica! Hope you have a wonderful day, and joyful new year of life.
Thanks for taking time to review 26 Juin for us. It sounds lovely. I was just thinking about your Clarins eau, thinking I should try it at the local Saks, if they have it. I’ll have to search further afield though to try this. You’re creating lemmings down here in the 95+F land.
I like the Crazysticks, too. Mostly for their close wearing scents. I have the encens mystic and lilas spiritual, both making nice layering agents. Snowcrocus, who posts here, is the master layering agent, but lilas with a clean incense was interesting.
Embarrassing perfume faux pas–today right before church, I spritzed L’Artisan’s Nuit de Tubereuse. Once too many times. I fear I fed perfume hatred. No one commented, but the couple behind me scooted away down the pew. (pew!) I’m usually a chronic under applyer, for fear of offending…ah, well, lessons learned. Hope you all had more fun with fragrance today. Be well.
Hemlock, I’ve worn the Clarins Eau des Jardins a few times over the past week or two, and I still like it as much as I did last summer! And, we’ve all had those, “oops, I must have overapplied…” moments! I wouldn’t have minded being near that Tubereuse, though…
How funny you mention the church experience today. I sat (too) near some lady who had waaay over-applied her scent before coming to church. Gloria Vanderbilt was the scent, I think, if my memory was working through the scent haze. Anyway, as I sat, I began to wonder whether I had been guilty of doing the same thing inadvertently and if so, I mentally apologized to all I had offended. What a reminder that just because I like it, doesn’t mean everyone within ten feet will, too. So, for over an hour, me and my L’Heure Bleu sat and felt guilty for past olfactory offences. Didn’t even need the sermon!
Thanks! You make me feel better about my blunder. I’m a veteran dabber–my trick with big perfumes is a Q-Tip. I push the tip right up to the spray nozzle, spray once, then dab from there. In my haste, I spritzed, and in the heat it was too much. Like I said, hard lessons learned. Thanks again, for sharing your experience. At least we’re aware, and thinking of our scent-wakes 🙂 Be well.
Happy Birthday!!!
I have this – bought it unsniffed, because I trust them with fruit and sweetness after falling so in love with l’Olfactive 129. No disappointment, it is a lovely burst of fruit that is nice and juicy and not teenagery. Thanks for the review!!
Tama, I still haven’t tried those Olfactives! You’re right, the brand does a good job with fruity-sweet overall!
Happy Birthday, Jessica!
And thanks for another lovely and informative review. Not even July yet and the heat’s already unbearable in the SE US – bring on the summer faves!
Thank you, Faylene! Keep cool!
Happy Birthday, Jessica! Thank you for another great review.
Tulp, I’m glad you enjoyed it. Thanks!!
