Donna Karan will launch Pure DKNY Verbena, the second in what will apparently be a series of fragrances focusing on different notes:
While the first scent [Pure DKNY] focused on a drop of water in vanilla, the newest addition, PureDKNY Verbena, uses the crisp lemony qualities of verbena-basil as its key.
The verbena is being sourced from Togo, and the scent is packaged in recyclable and recycled materials.
Pure DKNY Verbena will be available in 30, 50 and 100 ml, concentration unknown (the original Pure DKNY was in Eau de Parfum). Look for it in August.

Verbena? Really? With the kazillion verbena/lemongrass/citrus options already in stores, why’d DK feel the need to do this? What’s next? Green tea? *yawn*
^Probably for the same reason they did the first one and Vanilla is the most used fragrance note in history. To do their own spin/take on it. I’ll give it a sniff
I don’t think they’re reaching for people who want unusual fragrances…they’re reaching for people who want a) an eco / responsible / sustainable angle, and b) people who are after simplicity.
I like simplicity sometimes. There are alot of notes I like individually, but not combined.
I don’t mind… there actually aren’t many verbena-centered fragrances in my mind (the recently mentioned ICONIC L’Occitane Verbena being one, and I’m curious to smell the lighter take on that). I was surprised I liked Pure as a clean, light alternative when I finally tried it in a duty free a month or so ago.
Also: I’ve been to Togo, and while I’m happy farmers there might benefit from this, in my experience, verbena grows in so many climates like a weed, that I don’t see the need to source this *particular* raw material in such an “exotic” locale. Shea butter and other tropicals, sure… but this is like sourcing rosemary from Botswana.
Guessing there is some cooperative in Togo that could make the amount they wanted, and that needed help? That seemed to be how it was done last time.
I’ll give it sniff, too, next time I pass through a department store. I always like the *idea* of lemony, citrus-y scents for summer, but don’t actually own one. The L’Occitane ones don’t work for me — too harsh and cleaning-product-like (I don’t want to be reminded of Lemon Pledge!).
Carthusia Mediterraneo! (just saying)
Thanks for the tip! I just read your review of Mediterraneo and it sounds like it might be just the thing!
