In the past, changes were driven by Mother Nature—or accountants. One caused variations in the quality and availability of natural ingredients, the other substituted less costly ones... In recent years, there’s been a third force: industry efforts to cut back on allergy-causing ingredients, to avoid labelling requirements or outright ingredient bans.

Great article! I loved seeing Patty and Denyse quoted.
Yes!
Thanks for the link to the article. My favorite part was the “and peanuts kill people!” To a very small degree, I can sympathize with the perfume companies not wanting to put disclaimer labels on the perfume bottles because it would affect the whole concept of perfume as a luxury and coveted item, which is what “sells” the perfume in the first place (not to us mind you, but for others). Some of these companies go to a lot of trouble to make the bottle a piece of art as well as the perfume inside. And if I were an artist I would not want to have to place a sticky note on my work with a disclaimer and/or warning label either. But with that said, I think the juice is more important than the bottle. When it comes right down to it, I only re-purchase if I love the juice and I am sure I am not alone in that.
Not sure how I feel about warning labels, but it doesn’t matter -> clearly they are not going to go that route.
Thanks! Also glad to learn that LT and TS are working on another book.
Yes, should be interesting!
It always warms my heart to see major publications (like Maclean’s) report on what can often seem like the insignificant quibbles of a niche cult – perfumistas bemoaning reformulations – that no one on the “outside” gives a rat’s ass about. This proves that the industry’s self-destructive tendencies actually affect a wide audience of non-perfumistas – in this case, ordinary women whose favorite perfumes don’t smell like they used to. Let’s hope this kind of spotlight keeps shining on the IFRA’s dubious, shady workings.
Thanks Robing for the link! Very interesting article. Regards
