Ranking second with $27 million in sales is Driven by Derek Jeter.
— Elizabeth Taylor's White Diamonds was the best-selling celebrity perfume last year, but Derek Jeter was number 2. Who knew? Number 3 was Beyoncé Heat. Read more at Top-Selling Celebrity Perfumes at Forbes.
Something about a fool being born every minute…….
Ha, but perhaps it is wonderful!
Anyone in the New York area knows who Derek Jeter is, regardless of whether that person is a baseball fan. (For the non-NYers, not baseball fans, Mr. Jeter is the long time short stop, and captain of the New York Yankees. He is regarded as being the quintessential “clutch” player, has not been involved in any major steriods scandal, has won several World Series championships, and was linked to several beautiful celebriy girl friends, until his recent marriage.)
He is that rare example of a sports celebrity who actually seems to be symbol of manliness, excellence and good sportmanship. So it make sense that he would be a perfect endorsee for a male fragrance.
On the other hand, I must admit, that I had never actually heard of this fragrance before.
I’d bet most people know who he is, but bet most of them had no idea his fragrance sold that well. I’m quite shocked.
I suspect that the fragrance does not sell quite so well in Boston.
ROFL… being from Boston and drinking some milk when I was reading this…I am now wearing the milk on my chin. Thanks for the laugh. 🙂
Well I am a Mets fan myself. I suppose “Eau de Flushing *will never make it as a best selling scent to rival Jeter’s.
* Another note to non-baseball fans/non-NY types. The Mets play in a stadium located in neighborhood in Queens New York, known as “Flushing” since it is on a tidal bay.
Ha! The CEO, lifelong Boston fan, would probably disown me if I presented him with a fragrance bearing Jeter’s name.
And I once heard my older son, then 8, shouting in frustration at his 6-year-old brother over a board game, “Cheater cheater Derek Jeter!” (Jeter is well known for being a good sport, not a cheater, but you see how anti-Yankees-brainwashed my children are…)
OMG, ROTFLMAO!!!
I’m a huge baseball lover, although I am a life-long Braves fan, and hate the Yankees on General Principal. I love almost all the individual players on the team, though, with the notable exception of Alex Rodriguez, for whom I harbor the deepest revulsion.
Jeter seems like a fabulous guy; the only bad thing I can say about him is that he doesn’t seem to sign autographs. I have heard this is because he wants his autograph to be worth more due to its rareness, which may be a great business decision, but I don’t know how he can turn down those little kids who run up to him. And maybe he only does that on the road; I have seen it here in SoCal many times.
Wow, I was under the impression that my baseball passions and perfume interest involved distinct worlds, with no one else having these very different interests. I am so glad to internet meet some fellow fans of both.
Me, too! 🙂
I’ve loved perfume since I was three, and baseball since I was 5.
I would give up buying new perfume before I’d give up my MLB Extra Innings cable package.
Notice I said new perfume; there’d have to be proviso in there to allow me to replenish my TPIM, Joy, Nuit de Noel, Poivre and AG Rose Absolue, but I could give up buying new perfume loooong before I could give up watching baseball.
The 2004 ALCS was one of the freaking highlights of my life, I swear.
I’m a baseball fan, too. I started watching baseball after seeing Ken Burns’s nine-part (of course) documentary on the history of baseball in the mid-90s on PBS. My team — the San Francisco Giants — won the World Series (WS) last year! Woo hoo!! I loved the 2010 World Series, of course. The 2001 (Diamondbacks vs Yankees) WS was riveting, too.
Hey, Kindcrow, me too! The 2010 Series was a dream come true.
I was pretty much rooting for the Rangers last year, but I was thrilled that Aubrey Huff finally got in the post-season, let alone a ring!!! Ya gotta love a man who wears a red rally thong ( and ONLY a red rally thong) in the clubhouse! 🙂
That’s because Jeter sells his stuff thru Avon. So if you don’t have a catalog immediately handy, you or anyone else wouldn’t know about it.
I’m sure many perfumistas are baseball fans or have at least a mild interest in the game, as I do. In fact, many non-fans in the US could recognize Jeter’s name just because he’s so famous (as great Yankee players always are).
Derek who? Indeed. Australian girl here – I’m pretty sure I can safely say I have never heard of him. Ever.
I’m kind of amazed that Beyonce did as well as she did – it was released to relatively little fan-fare down here.
I see NYC made the top 10 as well…
I’m another Aussie who has never heard of Derek.
I’m also surprised to see how well Beyonce rated and how well the Avon perfumes sell. I haven’t heard of anyone selling Avon since I was a kid.
I love this comment: “Somewhere like France, putting on fragrance in the morning is a daily habit. In the U.S. fragrance has never completely taken hold”
I will now make a sign for over my perfume cabinet that says :
****welcome to FRANCE ****
😛
Bonjour, Madame!
Moi aussi.
