Coming up this weekend: haiku challenge

Posted by Robin on 6 April 2011 16 Comments

Just a quick note to say that this coming weekend, Jill be hosting a repeat of last year's popular Haiku challenge. Sharpen your pencils! The rules will be the same: pick a perfume, write a haiku about it using the simplified English form (three lines, the first line with five syllables, the second line with seven syllables and the third line with five syllables). You can put the perfume name in the title or in the poem itself.

And if you have a great idea for a poll topic, do leave a comment!

WOOO HOOO!! I loved that last year.

Robin – there is an old(er) post somewhere where you asked for Lazy Poll ideas. I don’t think we’ve used them all up – can you find it?

That’s it! Wow! I can’t believe it’s been that long ago. I would have sworn last year.

Found this on the poll linked above…under “anonymous” so I don’t know who to credit:
    1) his & her combinations (if she wears X, what does he?)
    2) colour (combination) and matching perfume
    3) moods (uplifting, soothing…)
    4) first perfume bought and why
    5) most hated perfumes (angel and chanel no. 5, hi-hi)
    6) who has tried to convert someone else to perfumism, and with which perfume?

and my vote goes to #6 what perfume did you use to try to bring someone else into our “cult” ;)

Wow, it’s already been a year? I remember the haiku challenge well. It was the first time I’d posted on a blog here, I was very inspired by it, and in fact, it was really what made me want to start my own blog. So thank you to Now Smell This and all of its amazing readers, most of whom prefer to participate in the experience of fragrance than just be standers-by.

Ooh! I’m gonna have to work on my poetry skillz!

BTW, I would love a poll asking people about their newbie mistakes, lessons learned the hard way, and experimentation gone awry! (Let’s just say I’d be less embarrassed to admit to things if I knew other people were gonna, too!) :)
