Tauer Perfumes Zeta ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 22 March 2011 33 Comments

Tauer Perfumes Zeta fragrance

Indie niche line Tauer Perfumes will launch Zeta, the first fragrance in a proposed series of vintage (specific harvest) fragrances built around fine or rare natural materials, next month. The series will be called the Collectibles. Zeta will feature linden blossom and is described as a "bright ode to summer":

Linden shade in June-
sweet rose petals and the light
of Syracusa.

The notes include lemon, bergamot, sweet orange, ylang, orange blossom absolute, neroli, linden blossom, rose, orris, sandalwood and vanilla.

Tauer Perfumes Zeta will be available in 50 ml Eau de Parfum for around $150. (via press release)

Note: Andy Tauer of Tauer Perfumes discussed the development of Zeta in a series of letters to perfumer Mandy Aftel published on Nathan Branch's blog; you can find the last letter (and links to all the prior letters) here.

Update: According to Andy Tauer, Zeta will not be a limited edition, but future batches may not smell exactly the same.

I loved reading those letters between him and Mandy. Really look forward to buying this one. Just for the novelty of how it was made. Since its a Tauer, I am bound to like it anyways.

O holy springtime! I love linden blossom. I definitely need to test this one. It sounds beautiful! Hopefully it won’t have that “fried food” base that sometimes doesn’t agree with me. Fingers crossed! I’d like to put another Tauer in my collection…

That’s it, Ann!! Fried food base! That’s it. I know exactly what you’re talking about, but I’ve never been able to articulate it so well. Thank you!

You are welcome! To be more specific (and I realized this the first time I smelled Une Rose Chypre, which I still like in miniscule doses…). I think it smells like the fried plantains I got to eat at this wonderful Cuban restaurant in Portland OR. Even CpuA has it. I have to mentally focus to get past it, which sometimes works. The only of his fragrances I’ve tried that doesn’t suffer from this is Maroc Pour Elle, which is wonderful stuff.

Where is this mythical Cuban restaurant in Portland?! I’m from Florida, and have been dying for some good Cuban food for months!

I’m going to guess that she means Pambiche, NE 28th and Glisan. I don’t know authentic Cuban food, but I know what I like!

I love linden too, and miss D’Orsay Tilleul, which I’m out of and afraid to try again.

Right now, my fav delicate linden is AG Eau de Ciel. But a discontinued Trish McEvoy Citrus Petals is wonderful too, but not as delicate.

Ooooo I cannot wait to smell this!
The sweet orange gives me pause because Orange Star was such a frikkin disaster on me but I’m always hopeful for another love from Andy since URC is such a treasure for me.

Be still my beating heart! That list of notes sounds absolutely divine. Here I’ve been so good in not buying any more perfume, and along comes Diaghilev (which I bought into a split of) and now this!

I also am way behind in testing his newest offerings. This one sounds great for spring. I will be curious to see how he handles this note, as I always think of his perfumes as more heavy, with a presence.

I love Andy’s scents, esp URC and Carillion, I’d like to try this as I adore linden notes in fragrances.

Been waiting very patiently for this, since I love linden and I love the Tauer line. Also love this moss green bottle.

This sounds absolutely lovely and I cannot wait to try it! Not all of the Tauer scents work for me personally, but they are all works of art and gifts to the world of perfumery!

I have that same problem. Tauer perfumes seem to be love it or hate it for me.

Oh, sigh… I know I’m going to want this. UCV was the only Tauer so far I’ve been less than crazy about, and that was only because I put waaaayyyy too much on one time too many.

Easy to overdose on the Tauers, I think. And URV is pretty sweeeeeet, too.

I too, am behind in sniffing Tauers – haven’t tried anything new since URC, I think. Glad it doesn’t launch till next month. Trying to not buy anything else until we’re past this qtr’s damage report…

I’m not sure whether I like linden or not. And OB can be a dealbreaker for me.

But it’s Andy’s. And it sounds lovely. Might have to sample…

I recall a time when Tauer perfumes were significantly less than $100 for 50 ml. I am so put off by the price increases.

I was just trying to find fragrances with linden blossom in them on Fragrantica. (Didn’t know “lime blossom” is actually the same thing in frag-speak.) How timely! My favorite has always been the Pre de Provence soaps and edt, but I’m getting a lot of great suggestions here, too. My birthday wishlist, which was nil a few days ago, is suddenly getting very looong. lol

    Sigh.
    Linden blossom? Love.
Tauer? Not so sure, especially after trying his LOV scent which had a strange sweetish edge — like some bubblegum, or maybe that were the fried plaintains… so far, no Tauer for me to love.
