Oscar de la Renta Esprit d'Oscar

Oscar de la Renta will launch Esprit d'Oscar in April. The new floriental fragrance for women is an updated version of 1977's Oscar.

Esprit d'Oscar was developed by perfumer Frank Voelkl; the notes include lemon, bergamot, citron, jasmine, orange flower and tuberose.

Oscar de la Renta Esprit d'Oscar will be available in 50 ($78) and 100 ($98) ml Eau de Parfum. (via wwd)

Hmmm. I want to try this one. Although I have NEVER seen an Oscar de la Renta fragrance. So I doubt I’ll see this one. : (

They’ve had some problems the last few years, but now they’ve switched their license again. Bet this one will be at Macys.

Sounds worth a sniff, and I do like that bottle…

The original OdlR was pretty huge, and an “eau” version might be a nice update. I remember it as being something of a cross between Giorgio and the original Chloe – I think I might like to smell this one if I run across it.

“Spirit of Oscar” is a bit on the creepy side for a name, albeit better in French, of course. (I don’t know why silly fragrance names matter so much to me. They shouldn’t matter any more than silly bottles – and nothing at all should matter as much as How It Smells.)

One of those that sounds WAY better in French, at least, if you speak English.

And yes, a lighter version seems like a good idea!

Hm, really? I don’t find it creepy… probably bc I don’t translate “esprit” as ghost-type spirit but more along the lines of “Christmas spirit”.

In the non-Dickins sense, I assume?

This sounds very nice. I wasn’t super-keen on the original, but a dear friend’s mother was, and I was too poor in my early college days to buy any for her. Would love to get some of this for her to try. Thanks!

I was loving the list of notes until I got to the end and saw my own personal bane – tuberose. Sigh. What is wrong with me that I can’t stand this note???

I think it was about a year ago, I was saying the same thing. Now, suddenly, I’ve found a couple of tuberose scents I actually like. Maybe this will be *your* tuberose? And/or, maybe it won’t be prominent.

I don’t like tuberose either. It makes me kinda queasy.

I liked the original but it was everywhere and very in- your- face. I’ll give this a sniff but, like maggiecat, the tuberose makes me very apprehensive. What kind of fumey am I???

The bottle top reminds me of those eye wash products with the eyeball shaped cap.

Oscar had a short-lived fragrance called Ruffles that was one of my all-time favorites. It was a spicy with a decided carnation note, although I don’t think it was listed as such.

I liked the original Oscar, but at that time in my life it was a little too mature for me. I do recall it as successfully walking the fine line between not enough and too much powder and that it was very feminine.

I had a bottle of that too! Wonderful :). The original Oscar de la renta was popular in our house – mom, grandma, and I all wore it. I never really thought of it as grownup, though.

That’s a brand that I feel like I haven’t heard of in years. Hard for it to not sound dated, so I wonder what the target is.

A found OD’s namesake scent just awful the first time around, so I went back and smelled it again- Same response.

Aha, interesting! I do not like that name, but the bottle is quite nice.
