British men are only beaten by their Italian counterparts in their desire to buy celebrity fragrances. Across the big five European countries, eight percent of Italian men own celebrity fragrance compared with six percent in Spain and just four percent in France and Germany.
— The British tie the Spanish at 6%. More fun facts at Smell it like Beckham: celebrity scents lure UK men at Yahoo News. Note that the article doesn't say men are buying these fragrances, only that they own them.
I have a husband who isn’t inflenced by celebrity scents one bit; just by what is well done.
I’m guessing most men aren’t, and that many of these scents are gifts.
According to the Article “Three quarters of British men receive fragrance at Christmas and it is British fathers, in particular those with children under five, who are the most likely to own a celebrity scent.”
Thus, apparently a great many British men are NOT buying fragrances, but are receiving them as gifts. (I wonder how this compares to the percentage of women who receive rather than buy fragrances) I suspect fewer American men receive fragrance as a gift. I also suspect that some of those men with young children are receiving celebrity scents from kids who think “Daddy likes Manchester United; I bet he would like that bottle with the goalie’s picture on it). (Apologies to all Manchester United, Soccer, or Beckham fans, if I have mangled the names of the players, their team associations or the name of the position of the guy who stands in front of the goal. ).
Oh, I think many men here get fragrance as gifts too. I think I read somewhere that more than half of all men’s fragrances are purchased by women…
So if women buy celebrity scents because they want to feel like the high-powered celebrities they are not; do they buy their husbands celebrity scents because they wish they had married the high powered celebrity that they failed to marry???
LOL — you gotta wonder!
All of my husband’s fragrances were purchased by me. I don’t think he has ever bought a bottle of anything in his life. No celeb scents, though–this year he is getting Sables and Ormonde Man.
Ditto here…when I met my husband, he had a 5 year old bottle of Nautica in his glove compartment & that’s it.
I’m English and I don’t have a single celebrity fragrance in a collection numbering just under 200 bottles.
LOL…you were not represented in this study 🙂
I’ve never been bought a celebrity fragrance. which I’m thankful for.
but the only celeb fragrance I bought was BS fantasy, which turned out not to smell as good as when it first launched so I threw it away. I loved the chocolate and cake in it.
but I have celeb fragrances as presents for friends.
