Agonist Liquid Crystal, Smell Bent Scrooge the Pooch ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 14 December 2010 16 Comments

Agonist Liquid Crystal

Agonist has launched Liquid Crystal, a new fragrance developed by perfumer Fabrice Pellegrin. The limited edition bottle was designed by Åsa Jungnelius of Kosta Boda.

It opens with a masterfully blended bergamot and lavender top only to give form to a spicy and woody heart note resting on a base of beautiful vetiver and courmarine.

Additional notes include clove, oregano, praline and everlasting flower.

Agonist Liquid Crystal is available now at Luckyscent, in 50 ml Eau de Parfum for $780. Refills are $90 but can only be purchased if you've bought the original bottle. (via luckyscent)

Update: see a review of Agonist Liquid Crystal.

Indie line Smell Bent has launched Scrooge the Pooch, a new limited edition holiday fragrance:

a holiday chypre - blood orange, aged patchouli, vanilla resin, bay leaf, poplar bud, natural oakmoss and classic musk.

Smell Bent Scrooge the Pooch is available in 8 ml Perfume Oil or 55 ml Eau de Toilette. Half the proceeds will go to charity: water. (via smellbent)

mega-cool bottle. ….I’m still gawking at the price. umm, no thanks.
Plus it appears to be loaded with lavender….so no temptation there….not that I’d be tempted at $780 anyways…egad. That’s practically a freaking house payment!!

I am going to assume the people who buy these are people who buy/collect/love glass art? It’s a shame the rest of us can’t buy the refills.

It is a shame! I would buy the Infidels refill if I could. It is a beautiful scent.

Didn’t By Killian give up the contrivance of ‘must buy original bottle in order to purchase refill’ once they were available @ Saks and Bergdorf and the whole scheme became unworkable?
I know friends of mine have purchased BK refills @ Bergdorf without buying the original bottle. Maybe Agonist will sell so few bottles keeping track will be possible.

Good question — I don’t know if they gave it up officially or not. I do know you can buy refills easy enough.

I think you’ve got a point about the art glass collectors. It seems to me a “smart” company would also make a plain bottle for the non-collector …their sales would sure improve! Unless, of course , they’re all about exclusivity….in which case they can just keep it.

I love that bottle, but the price is out of my league.

Oh god, but I do love that bottle. Same with the Infidels bottle—mentally beginning to add up my pennies…
Then I remember what I could get *instead* of what would probably be the dumbest unsniffed purchase in the history of perfume-dom.
    :)

Exactly. It’s fun to tell Mr. Ab Scent about the latest hilariously priced eccentricity to see his his reaction which often mirrors my own, but you could buy almost three 100ml By Kilian refills for that price. OTOH, the Smell Bent sounds nice enough. I keep meaning to try the line but just haven’t done so yet. :)

They probably make these for someone exactly like me — a perfumista who is also an art glass collector. lol I didn’t know there were enough of us to be considered a niche market. But I could be wrong. It’s possible I might yet buy one of their offerings, but I’d have to adore both bottle and fragrance for the asking price. Being meh on both lavender and vetiver, it won’t be this one that makes me grab my VISA.

Liquid Crystal is one of those things where, if I had the means, maybe. But since I don’t, it’s laughable. I don’t even want to know if I’d like it, because if I did, the prohibitive price would be that much more painful.

As for the Smell Bent offering, I’d love to try it. I’m a huge fan of Sunshine from this house, although I’ll admit that their scents as a whole are a bit hit and miss for me.

The price is astounding. If someone tries it, please share your impressions. (not that it will ever be mine, but curious…)

I’m not a glass collector but I do adore most kosta boda designs. Not that I’d ever spend all my perfume money on buying such things!

The bottle is made-to-collect item, more inclined towards art then the fragrance-unfortunately most of us can’t afford it :(

That beautiful bottle made me faint before I even saw the price.
