I want to sell out! That’s the thing. I’m a businesswoman, and selling out sounds good to me.

Well let me breath out in relief as Katty Perry set things straight! (and this is without any intention at irony)
A pop singer of Katy Perry’s REVENUE (let alone “success” or “artistic stature” those are too vague to be measured) is indeed a businesswoman. If she believed that she is not, that she is still ONLY an artist trying to convey her vision to the world, then somebody else would be doing business for her, and probably taking the profit with them.
I prefer my popstars capitalist! 🙂
I know almost nothing about her, mostly just thought it was a funny contrast with Emma Watson’s statement yesterday!
Yes very timely! 🙂
I agree Kaos.Geo! To me this is a much more credible answer – it’s honest and refreshing to hear. More so than, “pfft, I wouldn’t want to SMELL like someone else, but here, buy some of my eco-friendly clothes!”
Honest, if crass….
It’s no wonder more people will remember Emma Watson than Kate Perry in a few years down the road. Or so I predict, at least…
🙂

Hard to say. Emma Watson says she may drop out of acting altogether.
That fed up with acting after the Potter factory-churning? I thought she kinda enjoyed those films.
Anyway….
Maybe that could be a new fragrance…”Sell-Out” by Katy Perry, to be followed by “Sell Out Light” and “Sell-Out For Men.” Our age is so cynical it would probably sell very well.
Yes!
I think this is her way of trying to say that she wants to make sure the money keeps rolling in and she will do what it takes to make that happen.
Well, how very candid of her. She certainly is cute in a retro pin-up sort of way – but her music is so lame and juvenile. Drives me up a wall.
One of the entertainment channels had an interview with her the other night about her new fragrance coming out. It was funny to listen to her talk about what a “pain in the ass” she was to the developers, since she insisted on showing up to sniff everything and have her own input. If only all celebrities were like that about their offerings!
And yet…I’d be willing to bet we get the same old standard celebrity fragrance…just this time it’ll be in a little bottle shaped like a bra that shoots whipped cream…
But at least its what SHE wanted, and she’s aware of what it is. Maybe it is just me, but that fact makes it feel more genuine to me than most celeb offerings.
Hey, at least she’s honest about her intentions and isn’t kidding herself about having any sort of talent unless owning an enormous number of push-up bras and lots of falsies counts as talent. Her music is absolutely torturous (my daughter loves her, ain’t that just the way) but I have to admire her candor about what she is, and she probably knows that her sort of popularity seems to have a short shelf life, so cash in while you can, I suppose.
You can’t really sell out unless you’ve been outside the mainstream and then capitulated to it, and that certainly does not describe Katy Perry.
On the other hand, her song Firework is not terrible. So there’s that. And I admire her honesty; rather than pretend that she isn’t a commodity, she embraces it.
It would be too much to hope that any scent her marketing firm generates would be any good, though.
Well, she’s certainly sold out bisexual women…
