L’Occitane Fleur Cherie ~ new perfume

Posted by Robin on 2 November 2010 28 Comments

L'Occitane Fleur Cherie perfume

L'Occitane has launched Fleur Cherie, a new fragrance for women that pays homage to orange blossom:

A cheerful fresh and sparkling top, thanks to the subtle mix of neroli and cassis notes, illuminated by the floral heart, composed of orange blossom absolute and orange blossom water absolute. Contains neroli, orange blossom absolute and orange blossom water absolute from the Mediterranean.

Additional notes include citrus, jasmine, patchouli, cedar and musk.

L'Occitane Fleur Cherie is available in 75 ml Eau de Toilette and in a variety of matching bath and body items including hand cream. There is also a limited edition makeup collection lightly scented with the Fleur Cherie fragrance. (via facebook.com/LOccitaneireland, loccitane.co.in, hk.loccitane, ca.loccitane)

They should be ashamed to copy the Eau Des Merveilles graphics.

Especially since the fragrance is Avon-ish, chemical and generic.

That’s the first thing I thought as well: “Didn’t they just DO a flanker for Eau des Merveilles?”

On second thought, it’s Avon meets Hugo Boss Orange 😀

Nile- Now that you mention it, the photo does have an Avon-esque look to it.

I think it will be everywhere by the end of next week. At the moment, it isn’t in the US yet.

I’ll update from my store-around-the-corner soon.
Here in Buenos Aires it could either be here by the end of next week or end up in the upcoming austral “fall” releases next march. 🙂

It sounds so much like a summer perfume! Be interesting to see when you get it.

Hello Robin, I have tried it.. The top and the middle of the fragrance is nothing to write home about. But the basenotes and lingering drydown is VERY nice. Give it a test run on skin… the drydown is more than you pay for 😉

Good to know…I tried it on paper & was not overly impressed.

I thought it was an Eau de Merveilles flanker as well- shame shame for blatant rip-off. I agree that it sounds very summery so it seems an odd release for November. Will probably sniff if I pass it by but won’t seek it out. The only Occitane fragrance I like is the Amber one- is it Ambre Sultan?

I guess I’m the lone dissenter who doesn’t think they’re *that* similar. Far less so than VC&A’s Midnight in Paris bottle, at least. Maybe I’ll think otherwise in person. Anyway… pretty ad, but these usually don’t excite me too much.

Wonder if it’s just because they tilted it in the ad? But don’t think it tilts in person.

Doesn’t look like it… it’s rounded, unlike the EdM bottle, which has a flat spot.

Here in Prague a tester has been on their counter for a couple of weeks, although the fragrance is not available to buy. It will launch soon though.

Anyway, since I had a chance to test it, it really is Avon meets Hugo Boss Orange. The bottle is not that original. They took the Cherry Blossom bottle (transparent, pink, with little glass flowers) made it round, dyed it peach, and added some different flowers.

L’Occitane has gotten less “Provencal” and more upper class Body Shop lately. It has also become more expensive, too much for the quality. BUT apparently they launched a new, cheaper, BIO brand. Have not been to that shop yet, but will report when I do.

I generally have a positive feeling about L’Occitane, but this doesn’t interest me at all.

For some reason, this post made me wonder about the overall health of L’Occitane. I discovered they’re apparently incorporated in Luxembourg, and they seem to be healthy comparing their 2009 & 2010 fiscal years on page 7 of the following: http://img.loccitane.com/OCMS/Investors/EN/pdf/2009-10-Annual-Report.pdf

I have a generally positive feeling too, but also think their fragrances, by and large, have gotten less rather than more interesting over the past 3-4 years. It feels like they’ve been trying to take them more upscale and have lost something in the process. I thought their simpler things — Green Tea & Mint, Ruban d’Orange, etc — were better.

I like L’Occitane products (hand crream! milk soap!) but their fragrances have not excited me much. Their Peony is nice, but I wans’t motivated to buy more than a small roll-on, and ther Lavender harvest series was pleasant as well. I’ll sniff this. As for the copy – I guess there are limited bottle shapes and ways to present them. Not sure if this was a deliberate or accidental similarity. Sort of a vague similarity at that, really.

What does orange blossom smell like? an orange, or a blossom, or both? What about “banana leaf”? Saw that once in a notes list.

OB is a floral note, not a citrus note, although it is often combined with citrus notes.

No idea what banana leaf smells like, but would guess that in perfume it smells an awful lot like banana.

It’s sort of a delicate white floral + orange.

Cedar is the new pink pepper. And I amp it up, so this is an easy pass for me.

First, I’ve been a fan of NST for a long, long time, but this is the first time I’ve posted anything– I simply had to weigh on this one. I truly adore orange blossom/neroli scents. (Having grown up in Southern CA w/ a huge orange tree in our yard, I believe I know my orange blossom). I’ve tried a multitude of them, (current favorite is Madini Azehar, which for my money is lovely and very true). But this Fleur Cherie stuff is just godawful. I don’t mean to be harsh, but honestly, a painfully chemically artificial “perfumy” smell that bears no resemblance whatsoever to any orange blossom in nature, and that I now can’t seem to wash off my hand no matter how hard I try. Eeek.

I tried it yesterday and think its a nice clean, fresh, flowery scent. I dont know the Avon or Midnight in Paris, but it reminds me a bit of Prada Infusion d’homme or Prada Infusion d’Vetiver because they also smell clean and fresh. I dont think its that feminine that a man could not wear it and that its also wearable in chilly weather. I would like to wear a flowery scent in Winter. I want to test it again… It lasts longer than Peony which I also like.
