Happ & Stahns 1842 Rosa Alba ~ new perfume

Posted by Robin on 1 November 2010 22 Comments

Happ & Stahns 1842 Rosa Alba fragrance

Happ & Stahns is a new perfume range from the Anthropologie chain. It was "inspired by the Grand Tour—a trip taken across continental Europe by young women of the 19th century as a finishing course to their education". They debut this month with 1842 Rosa Alba, an "ethereal floral".

1842 Rosa Alba was developed by perfumer Marypierre Julien; the notes include baies rose, pink grapefruit, Darjeeling tea, lily, Rosa Alba ScentTrek, wisteria, amber wood and cashmere musk.

Happ & Stahns 1842 Rosa Alba is available in 75 ml Eau de Parfum ($68, as shown, comes with pincushion cap and 5 retro stickpins) or in 10 ml Parfum ($30, in a bottle inspired by Victorian tear catchers). (via press release)

what an eye-roller! I wonder what Scent Trek is, or is that another bad pun?

Scentrek is what fragrance supplier Givaudan claims they perform to capture the essence of a flower or plant in its original environment, withour harming the plant or flower. Sounds like they capture the air around the flower or plant, analyze the heck out of it, and create a captive molecule, which they later hope perfumers will consider using.

Yes. It’s Givaudan’s version of headspace technology.

This concept reminds me a lot of the J. Peterman perfumes: http://www.jpeterman.com/EM-Collection/EM-Gift-Collection

Anthropologie in general reminds me of J Peterman. In a more commercial, chain-appropriate form, I guess.

Oh my gosh…that’s just so darn cute. Not sure I’m wanting the juice itself, but I definitely want that pincushion bottle.

I don’t see wisteria very often in a lineup.

      I love wisteria.

Me too! I had some wisteria incense back in the late 70’s/ early 80’s and cannot find it anywhere. I found the gentle sweetness of the wisteria, mixed with the resin made such a wonderful combination. I wish I could have bottled that!

I might have to have that – I could have a bottle in my sewing room, and use it not only for pins but to refresh my scent as I work! I look forward to seeing the tear-catcher version as well.

It’s already online, I just only used one picture. It’s cute! I had never heard of tear catchers to begin with.

Those Victorians were nutty like that.

Has anyone had any thoughts on another Anthropologie scent, called “Freia” by MOR. I can’t find much on it anywhere, and I really thought it was lovely. They have the best stuff, though I find some of it a bit too quirky for the prices.

Don’t know that one, sorry. Don’t think Mor is made by Anthropologie though, although they sell it there.

That’s too bad, I can’t seem to find it anywhere, and the MOR website is very unhelpful. . . no references to Freia so it must have been a seasonal thing. Thanks, though

I don’t like the look of the bottle, but the cap and the little stick things stuck in it are cute.
I have never heard of Happ & Stahns and Google won’t turn up anything.

      I think it’s a new in-house brand.
