I just can’t bring myself to shop at TBS after they got rid of 99% of their perfume oils… It might seem petty, but that on top of constantly discontinuing all the items I used and loved has rather put me off the whole company, which is sad because I used to love shopping there. The feel just isn’t as earth-friendly and more like every other bath+beauty shop in the mall now. 🙁

But yay for chilis as a note. That’s one I don’t have any experience smelling save when cooking.

Agreed…I remember the body shop where, out front, there was a large round counter of perfume oils and you could mix up your own (often awful) concoction, but it was fun…and made you feel like you were purchasing something unusual. Even some of there plain fragrances were very good – I remember their “old” Vanilla as being wonderrful (it is definitely not the same now). It’s true, everything in there is too sleek – but I guess they have to “keep up.” I miss the old paper and raffia and green packaging though…

Me too!!! The Body Shop of 10 years ago no longer exists. There was nothing like their vanilla oil, and I still have lovely large cardboard gift boxes from their shop that I store treasures in. As it became more mainstream I gradually stopped going in, but about a month ago I was remembering their lovely vanilla oil and stopped in. Their vanilla oil now does not even smell anything like vanilla. It just smells like a weird mixture of flowers and fruit. Why does everything have to eventually morph into generic???

Oh my god… I remember this too. I thought I dreamt it. My sister and I used to love the “perfume oil bar” when Body Shop first opened in a nearby mall. I fondly remember their wonderful Sandalwood, lovely Chypre (named so before Coty forced them to cease and desist), and oh– their Vanilla truly was beyond compare– smoky and not too sweet. Those were the days. 🙁

Oh, their Sandalwood! And Chypre, so soft and sweet, not really a chypre but beautiful nonetheless. And Moss, which actually smelled of green hand soap and wood. And if you mixed Tea Rose and Vetiver 50/50, you got a perfectly respectable version of EL White Linen, believe it or not. The Body Shop’s perfume bar back in the eighties was endlessly delightful, and now it’s just gone: I went in a few weeks ago looking for Satsuma and it’s vanished, along with all the rest of them except (I think) Vanilla and White Musk. How could they do this?

You know, I have to say that I like their simple things better than their “fine fragrance” too. I thought Love, Etc was pretty darned dull. But I”ll give this one a shot.

Looks like they recycled the Coriolan bottle and put a cheaper top on it.

And looks like Lumiere of Rochas (the second version).

And it also looks a whole lot like Vivid by Liz Claiborne, like practically identical, only with the little stick knocked off the cap.

I remember liking their moroccan rose, but I do miss the perfume oil station. I snapped up their dewberry and fuzzy peach oils when they were being clearanced for the days when I want to pretend it’s 1991.

I liked Moroccan Rose too. I wasn’t really clear — Love, Etc was the first one they called “fine fragrance”.

It’s been at least 20 years, but I miss their oils “Samarkhand”, “Annie” and “Herb” so very much.

I remember the perfume oil Vetiver the most. It was lovely – begged TBS for years to bring it back to no avail! Its so annoying when they discontinue products that you love !

I would shop at Body Shop, but everything is so expensive for the bottle sizes. I know their kind to animals and they have a good cause, it’s just you’d need to go every month or more often just to buy bodywash.

a typical 200ml bodywash is like £6.00 at bodyshop. I get 500ml of Soap&Glory bodywash for £5.00. but I do get my scrunchie sponges from bodyshop. if they did bigger bottles for the price of their small ones I’d buy them. 🙁
