Frederic Malle will be appearing at several Barneys locations to introduce his home fragrance line:
"Freddie is like a fabulous character out of Proust. The mysterious cult of Frederic Malle draws followers from the grooviest and most sophisticated nooks and crannies of art, movies and fashion. With the introduction of the home collection Frederic is taking his subtle, intoxicating magic to a wider audience," said Simon Doonan, Barneys New York's creative director.
The collection is comprised of nine scents many of which were developed using headspace technology largely based on the work of the late Dr. Braja Mookherjee, a scientist formerly with International Flavors and Fragrances. Frederic Malle invited perfumers Carlos Benaim, a close colleague of Dr. Mookherjee, and Sophia Grosman, to work on scent development. Additionally, Dominique Ropion, a long-time collaborator of Frederic Malle at Editions de Parfums, was also very active in the project.
The fragrances are as complex and differentiated as the designers themselves. Coffee Society, seeks to recreate that ephemeral odor of the living room after the end of a Parisian dinner while Russian Nights, was designed to embody the suave warmth of long nights in Russia. Saint des Saints evokes the mystique of Indian temples. For details on each candle in the Frederic Malle collection, please visit www.Barneys.com.
The candles, which range in price from $80-$140, come in hand-blown glass jars in signature Editions de Parfums Frederic Malle red, but with no logo or label. Thus, the graceful design can work unobtrusively with any decor. The composition of the wax for each scent was specifically formulated to maximize fragrance and diffusion.

I have one of these candles, and I just wanted to confirm that not only the fragrance (in my case jurassic flower) is great, but also that the wax qualitiy is excellent, no need for massive interventions, shoving wax lumps around as in other cases..Saint de saints is probably the next one I’ll buy.
I agree that these candles are really wonderful fragrance-wise.
I loved the smell of Gardenia la nuit: it seemed even more beautiful that the real flower!
As I don’t buy/burn candles, I went as far as to write “les editions” asking them if they could release a personal fragrance based on the candle, preferably concocted by Monsieur Ropion. Could you imagine?
Well, they answered me, and were very kind, but didn’t commit.
I still hope…
Wish I wasn’t such a cheapskate when it comes to candles…they sound so wonderful.
I loved some of the candle scents “Russian Nights” was my favorite but it was sold out so I got “May 1st “(sp?) which is very nice but it has not much sillage which is kind of annoying for a $100 candle ( I could barely smell it in the room, compared to the old Slatkin candles from Neiman Marcus which even when they are not lit up infuse the room with fragrance)
Oh, what a shame! That would upset me too.
Oh bravo on the no logo thing. I can’t tell you how completely annoyed I am at those Lafco candles that say “LIVING ROOM” or “BATHROOM” in huge letters on the glass. It makes gift giving pretty much impossible, even though the candles themselves are quite nice.
I have not seen those! It does seem like a terrible idea.
I love Simon Doonan calling him “Freddie.” Actually, I just plain love Simon Doonan. And “Freddie.” 😉
Darn it!! Looks like he is skipping SF. Hmph.
I wish he would come to kansas city maybe I’ll get to smell the candles one day
