Betsey Johnson Vintage Betsey ~ new perfume

Posted by Robin on 21 September 2010 12 Comments

Vintage Betsey fragrance

Betsey Johnson has launched her debut fragrance under new arrangements with Inter Parfums, Vintage Betsey:

Betsey is back! The newest fragrance from Betsey Johnson is an old favorite brought back to life - formulated to closely match the intoxicating scent of Betsey's original boutique perfume from the '80s. Never sweet, never simple and always alluring, Betsey Johnson Perfume is sure to turn heads. Housed in an angular glass spray bottle printed with Betsey's signature kiss graphic.

I will update with notes if/when I can find them.

Betsey Johnson Vintage Betsey is available in 50 ml, concentration unknown, or in a 20 ml Purse Spray; matching body lotion is also available. It can be found at Urban Outfitters or at the Betsey Johnson website.

Having never smelled the original, I would assume since it’s an older scent that it might have some bones at the least. The packaging is a little tacky.

I was very surprised by the packaging — they went all out for her last one (although you could argue it was tacky too).

        Fun Tacky vs. Cheap Tacky?

The last one was both fun/tacky AND cheap/tacky, LOL…I liked it in pictures, but when I saw it, I was kind of let down by the cheap factor. Still, at least it was fun. This one, I don’t know…it just looks cheap/tacky to me, at least in the pictures. If the scent is great, I wouldn’t care anyway…

Way to make Victoria’s Secret fragrances look classy (or do I mean “Klassy”?)!

From the 80’s? This might be fun….I don’t remember this scent at all, but I’m curious and will sample it when possible.

I never smelled it. BJ says it debuted in 1982, but in 1992 Women’s Wear Daily announced it as a brand new scent, so I’m confused about when it came out anyway…

“Never sweet”: sounds promising, given how sweet most mass-market scents are these days.

The bottle, though, is as cheap as can be. It’s what Demeter packages their inexpensive, minimalist scents in. I expected more from Johnson, particularly given the wonderful insanity of her last bottle.

Yeah very disappointing packaging. And from Betsey of all people! I’ll take the wacky tacky over the top bottle of her 2006 launch over this plan, dull and boring new bottle. The kiss doesn’t make it any better. I was never in love w/ the 2006 one so lets hope the scent of Vintage is better. Too bad I’ll probably never try it because it won’t be in store at Urban and I don’t have a Betsey boutique near me. My sister LOVES her so we’ll probably drive down to one of her boutiques some day. : )

I hope it’s better than the current one anyway! I really can’t remember if I ever smelled this back in the day, must try soon!
