The smell of violets

Posted by Robin on 3 August 2010 22 Comments

I don't know (what the smell is), I mix my perfumes but I have this old Cuban perfume that has violets, so they must like the smell of violets.

i guess she means layers, but gotta love a woman who layers.

i tend to have an issue too when asked what fragrance i’m using when someone likes it. then it’s like ‘it could be either this one, or this one, or this one, but i got something else behind my ears’

Yes! And of course now I want to know the name of the Cuban violet perfume…

I wonder if it’s Crusellas Agua de Violetas.

Me too! Violets are the first scent I remember wearing as a child.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and try to guess which “old Cuban perfume that has violets” she is referring to. I’m thinking it is Agustin Reyes Agua de Violetas or Royal Violets … and it is a baby cologne. All Cuban babies (and Cuban-American babies) were doused with this … trust me, I speak from experience. :-)

Connie—who is off to buy some and bring back some scent memories. :-)

Agustin Reyes’ Royal Violets is pretty solid and pleasant smelling… Violetas Francesas is sweeter and more baby-powdery, but still good (if you can look past that AWFUL package design featuring the “sexy infant” photo). But I would have to warn people away from Corlys Violet, which smells like vile combination of old lady and floor cleaner.

I wonder how many noses are going to contact her.

So, she’s a layerer. I’m with the others in being curious about what it is she’s mixing up.

Methinks the reference to the violence is a bit of pride coming out. To which I say, what a nice move, maintaining some mystery and being a little political all at once. :)

I love the idea of the other mix…Ferrell and Wahlberg, both huffing on her skin? Fab.

That’s a cute story. Well, now the celeb frag makers are going to hunt her down to do some headspace analysis. I bet by Xmas there is a very special Eva Mendes fragrance in the works!

I knew a guy who was so insanely intoxicated by the smell of YSL Paris (go figure?) that he would just about go cross eyed when he smelled it wafting by on some woman. It took him a long time to figure out what it was until some female friend of his helped him figure it out. It was pretty funny – a YSL Paris stalker, lol.

Yes, it’s a bit like Estee Lauder apparently having to be persuaded by friends to bring out her ‘Private Collection’. Or Audrey Hepburn trying, however playfully, to ‘forbid’ Givenchy to bring out her special scent. As soon as these powerful and lovely women seem to be keeping something to themselves, we want it!

EL ran for years the line that ‘One lovely drop and you will know why Estee Lauder wanted to keep Private Collection to herself.’

EL markets very well and I truly like and/or love some of their fragrances.. they usually have great staying power. What I also like about EL is that they keep their old ones around.

I agree, thank goodness they still keep Youth Dew, Azuree and Aliage around. I love those scents.
EL is a great heritage line-lots of hits in their stable.

I really like Eva Mendes and if she smells as pretty as she looks, that would be quite impressive.

She comes across as genuine and I give her props for not giving away her preferred scents to layer.

Wasn’t Eva Mendes the face of Calvin Klein’s flop Secret Obsession? Or was it another actress?
