Prada Infusion d’Iris Eau de Toilette ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 16 July 2010 49 Comments

Prada Infusion d'Iris Eau de Toilette

Prada will launch a Eau de Toilette version of Infusion d'Iris in August. The new fragrance for women focuses on the iris flower — or “a memory of iris”, since most iris flowers are not scented — instead of the more traditionally used iris root.

The new Eau de Toilette was developed by perfumer Daniela Andrier, who also created the original Infusion d'Iris. Additional notes include neroli, lily of the valley, violet, heliotrope, cedar and galbanum.

Prada Infusion d'Iris Eau de Toilette will be available in 50, 100 and 200 ml ($65-115). (via wwd)

We’ll see. If they’re taking out the iris root, I have a feeling I am not going to love it…but who knows!

Wow….A green that is too radiant. Is it because of lily of the valley?

I’m sure they just wanted a different shade of green than the EdP…

Ha! I’ve caught myself several times searching for the “Like” button. I’m all about iris root and was really disappointed with the edp, so maybe this will be the one for me. The edp on my skin, all I got was neroli/orange blossom/citrus – not a whiff of iris. A good summer cologne, but so not up to my expecatations. Which are admittedly, ridiculously high.

Oh, totally misread that. The edt is focusing on iris flower. Hmm, ok, maybe money saved, then! lol Off for another cup of coffee.

That was my first reaction, too :-) The EdP is already too subtle and light, it’s ridiculous to do an EdT.

I guess it’s for the woman who hates perfume but wants a Prada bottle on her nightstand? Can’t understand the reasoning.

I know Ari, right?! The original IdI doesn’t do it for me and my scent devouring skin. I’ve tried it numerous times and it’s a non-scent on me.

The original is nice on me…for about 5 minutes then completely disappears. This one will have the strength of bottled water.

RD, when I first discovered I’dI, I was so excited- thought I’d found a cheaper alternative to 28 La Pausa. Unfortunately, I’dI’s longevity makes La Pausa look positively tenacious. Still, I think it was by far the nicest of Prada’s whole infusion line, haven’t cared for any of the others. I do wish Prada would go back to making full-bodied beauties like the original.

What’s really funny, all you in consensus, is that on me, the original is quite tenacious and even rather loud at times. Don’t ask me how… it’s a mystery, apparently.

I’ve found the same thing. It’s reasonably tenacious on me, which is unfortunate as I’m not all that fond of it!

Most irises are unscented? We had irises along the side of our house when I was growing up, and they were very fragrant. Wonder what type they were?

OK…just did a little research (knowing nothing about irises) – sounds like Iris Pallida is the one we had…

We had mixed varieties, and some of them were quite fragrant! My favorite was this pale mauvey pink transplanted from my grandmother’s garden, that smelled a bit like ripe purple grapes. Wish I could find that particular iris now – I’m sure it was heirloom, and my grandmother sold her house several years ago so I can’t go get some divisions now…

Most Iris Germanica, including the variety known as Florentine ARE fragrant to some degree, a few are very fragrant…And tho I like the scent, I’m not sure it would make a good perfume…

Is it grape juicey or grape soda-ish? I feel like there are a lot of things that smell like artificial grape (soda, Kool Aid, whatever), but not so much like grape juice.

Sorry to butt in but don’t do it. Couture Couture has to be one of the worst scents I have ever smelt. It is ultra similar to Usher She actually. I think Elizabeth Arden may have in fact just rebottled the Usher She juice. Much like how I think Yves Saint Laurent Parisienne (a much nicer juice in my opinion) is just Cacharel Promesse rebottled. I know I am probably wrong but I am sure this sort of thing happens!

I have grown to love the original Infusion d’Iris. At first try, I also thought it was too light for an edp. It seemed to disappear after an hour or less on me! But I have discovered that the Prada’s have something in them that fuses with your body warmth or something. The reason I say this is because the scent comes back in 3 hours and then again 2 hours after that and even the next day and it comes back in a big way! I wore the last of my sample to the offce thinking it would be too ligth for most to notice so I felt safe…wrong! I had 7 yes 7 people compliment me on my scent and that hardly ever happens to me. The Prada’s are very suprising. I am looking forward to trying this but I am leery of the lily of the valley -that can be very hit or miss for me.

I am afraid I have committed a fragrance transgression…I was in a store doing some sniffing the other day and decided to try (for the thrice go at it) the original Infusion d’Iris…since originally I had agreed with some others on NST that it was a bit too light for my taste. At the same time I happened to see they had the new Jessica Simpson Fancy Nights nearby so I grabbed it and spayed on a card as well. I had tried the Prada on skin, but also sprayed a card for later reference and tossed both cards in my purse. What emerged later was the Prada smudged with the Fancy Nights, and I’ll be darned if it didn’t smell quite nice together. I’m sure I’ve committed about 10 sins in this discovery that I am just too new to be aware of.

At any rate, I agree with Ari…. it’s laughable that the orig isn’t light enough already…

If it’s based just on “a memory of iris,” then maybe Prada won’t mind if I appreciate it just via a “memory of buying and smelling.”

I’m with you Fuddy Duddy :)

Id’I is certainly not what perfumistas would call a strong scent but it is very present , at least on some of our skins.
I love to wear it when I don’t want to ‘think ‘ about what I’m wearing, but the funny thing is I do end up focusing on it because I will catch whiffs of it all the time and so will others around me.
At the dental office, I was sitting in the chair in the room while they worked on my daughter and the d.a. and the dentist were all asking me “What are you wearing? It smells really good!”
And nodding their heads in agreement with the lil’ masks over their faces.
I love it for that. And you can douse yourself and not worry about offending anyone and it does stay on your clothes.
Id’I is the first fragrance that helped me realize I might love iris perfumes and I love it’s green, happy aura.
I’m not really interested in the newer version since it is already light but you never know.

If it really smells like iris blossom, I WANT IT. However, I’m not sure Prada’s done that sort of true-to-life thing well to date. I like Id’I myself for a wallpaper scent, a now-you-smell-it-now-you-don’t-now-you-smell-it-again fragrance. There seems to be some musk in the base, and I’m wondering if it’s unsmellable to a lot of people…

I have a mini of IdI and that’s all I really need, I think.

Well, like all the Pradas, I will give it a try, but won’t get my hopes up. Everything gets a fair shake from me.

I love the way bearded iris smells, but don’t know if there is a way to perfume it.

I really, really don’t like the green colour Prada used. Reminds me of lily-of-the-valley and menthol, two scents I dislike intensely. Sadface.

And at first glance “was an EDT really necessary when the original EDP was already quite light” came immediately to mind. But I s’pose it would be worthwhile to see (smell?) if there is an appreciable difference between the iris flower and root.

If I can get past that awful green colour, that is.

The color they chose, would be more suitable to a suntan lotion and coconut cocktails on the beach kind of scent. there it would be appealing… Here it’s an indication of things getting more wattery and almost unsmellable….

Looks like I’m another exception to the rule here, IdI lasts all day for me. I call it the “I’m presenting my thesis now” fragrance, because this one smells cerebral on me. Uhh, that is… if brains had a smell…..

has the eau de toilette d’Iris made it’s way over to the US yet?

to say I wasn’t overly keen about the eau de parfum d’Iris I like the eau de toilette :) it’s brighter than the eau de parfum and there is less of that sticky sparkly note that I didn’t like and there is more to the eau de toilette. the bottle isn’t as bright like the picture on here, the glass is frosted. and oddly, it’s stronger than the eau de parfum (on me).
