Orla Kiely Eau de Parfum ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 21 June 2010 20 Comments

Orla Kiely perfume

UK designer Orla Kiely will launch her debut perfume in August. According to Kiely, "I’m used to working with colour and pattern but here we have tried to capture the essence of us in a bottle."

The notes for the fresh fruity floral fragrance include green tea, peach, bergamot, fig, rose absolute, white flowers, chocolate, osmanthus, musk, tonka bean, cedar and sandalwood.

Orla Kiely Eau de Parfum will be available in 25, 60 and 100 ml (£32-55), and will be available at Harrods, Debenhams and Boots stores; international distribution is planned for 2011. (quote via cosmeticsbusiness.com, additional information via cosmeticnews, kmibrands)

Update: Orla Kiely Eau de Parfum was developed by perfumer Anne Flipo. (via wwd)

Love the cap on that bottle. Peach and chocolate are iffy notes at best for me, though, so I probably won’t smell this unless I stumble across it somewhere.

I love the bottle. I think she’s probably used the stem on the bottle for branding purposes, isn’t it their logo? The perfume sounds really interesting and nice smelling.

yes she has, and yes it is her logo.

I think the bottle is adorable, and love that they are selling in 25ml sizes. But I’m with boo on the notes — peach and chocolate mean I will not seek this one out, though I won’t turn up my nose if it happens my way all on its own.

that IS a cute bottle….I’d like to see it in person …and feel it.
I kind of like a peach note….but chocolate makes me shudder…..and cedar is BO in a bottle (but ok in tiny amounts).

No idea who will have it in the US, but we’ll have to wait for next year in any case.

Perhaps they’ll sell it on the USA page of their Internet site? Love the bottle too, but I am surprised that the notes are not a little more “edgy”.

Yes, doesn’t sound even slightly edgy.

I love chocolate as a flavor, and of course it smells wonderful, but I never seem to like it in perfumes. I wonder why that is?

I always wonder if chocolate just has a too-strong food association for me to enjoy the fragrance note. I too love to eat it and love the smell of it (as food), but it doesn’t move gracefully into my perfume world. That also seems true for me with fruits that I really enjoy as foods, like pears or peaches. As compared, say, to citrus fruits, which I have always associated as much or more with their fragrance.

All those notes together sound like a *serious* hot mess, even though I like almost all of them in some combination separately.

There’s something about the bottle I kind of like, but still not sure I’d want it in my house. It’s fun.

I like Angel and Princess, both of which seem to be quite polarizing in the perfume world, and think this looks really good, too. I don’t mind a fruity floral if it’s unusual to one degree or another (though that’s getting harder to find) and would definitely give this a go. It sounds pretty and very spring-like to me.

“we have tried to capture the essence of us in a bottle”–perhaps Grenouille could have helped them out? Sorry, I couldn’t help it–it just popped into my head when I read that quote.

I rather like the bottle, and I like that they will offer it in a 25 ml size–if only more perfumes came in smaller sizes (Chanel, are you listening?) As for the notes, it sounds as if it would be OK if not for the chocolate. I prefer to eat my chocolate, not wear it.

Interesting – if I had only seen the notes and pic, I would have said it could be another scent in the Oilily line.
