New public profiles for gravatars

Posted by Robin on 7 June 2010 9 Comments

All of you who have taken the time to create a gravatar at gravatar.com have a new option: you can now create a public profile associated with your gravatar.1 Public profiles can include any information you want: your email address, links to your website(s), your accounts on various social media services, whatever. This should be handy for those of you who'd like to be able to share more personal information with other readers: create a public profile at gravatar, copy the profile link (at the bottom left of the screen), then come back to Now Smell This, log in, click "Edit Profile" on the right hand column, and enter the link to your gravatar profile in the field "Website" (which you'll find under "Contact Info"). Voilà, your user name is now a clickable link to your gravatar profile.

You can see my very basic gravatar profile here.

You can read more about gravatar public profiles at the gravatar website.

1. Gravatars are the images that appear to the left of your user name when you comment. If you sign up for a new account at Now Smell This and do nothing else, we generate an “identicon” gravatar (a geometric image associated with your account). If you want to use the image of your choice, you need to go to gravatar.com and create an account there.

T: It’s apparently not retroactive, but you’ll see my profile if you click my name in more recent comments.

Does the new gravatar take awhile to kick in? Because I selected a pic but it’s still not showing up.
