Parfums DelRae Coup de Foudre ~ new perfume

Posted by Robin on 4 June 2010 53 Comments

Parfums DelRae Coup de Foudre

Parfums DelRae has launched Coup de Foudre, the line's seventh fragrance for women:

DelRae's objective with ‘Coup de Foudre’ was to create a perfume that captures the ultimate beauty of the rose, as you find in nature— deep, luscious, fresh and completely intoxicating. So stunning, that when you first smell it, regardless of your previous ‘rose’ experience, it is ‘love at first sight’ ..... coup de foudre!”

Coup de Foudre was developed by perfumer Yann Vasnier; the notes include baie rose, lemon, pink grapefruit, rose de mai, peony, jasmine, magnolia, tonka bean, vetiver, white moss and velvet musks.

Parfums DelRae Coup de Foudre is $150 for 50 ml Eau de Parfum. (quote via aedes, additional information via luckyscent)

I tend to love Delrae perfumes but I have a bad feeling about this one, the white moss worries me. Didn’t much care for it in Jasmine White Moss. Give me back the real stuff!

I’ll take most any moss they’ll give me…but also not at all sure that “white moss” has a specific meaning, although it might.

Very exciting—so far I at least like everything Delrae has done… ok, ok, Emotionelle is a LOT of melon…and needs to be used judiciously…but Mythique (ohhh) and Debut (ahhh) and Bois de Paradis (yeah! clap, clap, clap —yes, I’m practicing for 4th of July) so this foray into the world of rose? uh-huh, I’m there…….

It’s nice to know that I’m not the only one with little to no restraint – although the presence of grapefruit kept me for pulling the trigger on an unsniffed bottle. I’d hate to end up with roses that the cat peed on.

I am blithely ignoring the mention of pink grapefruit……I’m pretty sure that if I don’t like it —I’ll find someone, somewhere who will take it off my hands. :-)

Wow, and I had this pathetic idea that because I’m near SF, I could snag a sample and send it to you. I bow to you.

awww that is so sweet! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Perfumistas are the NICEST people!
If you get a chance to get in and get a sample you’ll have to report your findings—I may have ordered fast—but it’ll take f.o.r.e.v.e.r. to get here! You could be one of the first to give an official opinion (I’m very excited by this new Delrae!!)

    • JolieFleurs says:
      4 June 2010 at 6:27 pm

But for the grapefruit, I think I’d have beat you to this one!

I’m going to get a sample (don’t you DARE, you have been far too generous to me already!) to see how it works on me. I generally don’t like citrus, period, but the rest sounds heavnely, and I love this house.

I think the only question for me will be FB or beg a split!

I generally like citrus and have a whole slew of lemon, orange & bergamot scents and even the occasional grapefruit…,but you’re right —grapefruit can be iffy. I’m hoping there’s enough sweet stuff around it that the grapefruit is balancing to the sweet rather than taking over and peeing on the roses. (heavy on the rose, hold the pee)

Drat! I think this might be calling my name…. and just when I had a good talking to myself this morning and ordered myself not to order a single more fragrance ever (well, for some months at least). I adore most rose notes, like some Delrae and just love EL’s JWM (I do understand though that the white moss seems to be a love/hate concept, but at least someone’s trying to think up something to replace oak moss!). Oh darn it, it’s whispering in my ear. Get thee behind me ….

I feel like I have more than enough rose to last three lifetimes; I think I’ve decided it’s not a note I crave wearing all that often, so — lovely as DelRae perfumes are — the idea of this one does nothing for me. Love the name though. I’m still need to pounce on a decant of Mythique at some point.

I’m with Joe, and am all rosed out. Although the day someone can replicate the true smell of peonies I’ll be first in line, and won’t care whether its paired with rose or not. I do love DelRae. Mythique may become the exception to my “Not-over-$120” rule. It’s just THAT beautiful…

And I have to say that I think I damaged my soft palate attempting to pronounce this name properly. Listening to a non-native French speaker say anything ending in -dre must tickle the French to no end.

I will put on my magnificent prognosticator hat and decree that I would be utterly useless at Russian, no matter how much I love to hear it spoken. Count me impressed with your language skill!

Latin was my first foreign language, which is why my French teacher asked me if I would, please, try to sound less robotic. (Je m’appelle C3P0)

Me three on the not-chomping-at-the-bit reaction to this. I wasn’t that thrilled when I saw rose, and the notes don’t dazzle me. I love DelRae, but to be honest I have yet to really need a full bottle of anything if I give myself time to think about it.

Well well well… aside from looking for a great leather scent, I was attempting to find the perfect rose scent (not at all related I know, but hey, a fabulous rose- leather has not been done yet, please tell me if I’m mistaken)
So, what is everyone’s FAVORITE rose frag? I tried Byredo Rose Noir and was not impressed (I can’t seem to get on the Byredo band wagon perhaps because he is an ex basketball star and my two sons have pushed me past the basketball limit). I tried Rose 31 and the only thing I was impressed with was its lasting power. I have tried some of the Rosine’s, which are pretty. Tried L’Artisan’s Voleur de Rose (wore it ages ago and may need to revisit it) and Drole de Rose which is perhaps too ‘young’ for me.
I can’t wait to try this! It could be the answer to my rose conundrum!!!

      You’re opening up a Pandora’s box asking this question…
For me – in terms of PURE roses and nothing else but roses… AG Rose Absolute, Montale Taif Roses, and possibly Montale Deep Roses.
Everything else has roses blended in: Lyric, Ava Luxe Roses, Nahema, SSS Vintage Rose & Cameo, etc, etc….

Rose and Leather? you need to get a whiff of by Kilian Rose Oud. Don’t pay any attention to that “oud” thing—this is all about roses and saddle leather.
Other favorite roses? Montale Highness Rose –nothing but a HUGE, VELVETY, BLOOD RED ROSE ….mmmm favorite rose ever….but there’s sooo many beauties: OJ Ta’if, DSH Arabian Rose, MPG Rose Muskissime, Une Rose Chypree, Rosine Rose d’Homme, Micallef Rose Aoud, LV Donna, Nahema, Joy, FM Une Rose, FM Lipstick Rose…..and today I’m trying some PdN Rose Pivoine which is very pretty! ……Amouage Lyric (as mentioned by Boo) is GORGEOUS but on me it’s all about woods.

Ok, fine, I’ll put on some of the Kilian Rose Oud. Where to put it is the question. Chamade, I’m sorry you must go. I’m making room for Rose Oud. No, she says. Too lovely. Both hands and arms are sample stations, including crook of elbow. Big rosy testings today. I might spare a pinkie for a tiny dab. Why do you continuously enable me?

Daisy – did you leave out the lovely, sexy Citizen Queen? I’d also say C&S No. 88, Le Labo Rose 31, and the lovely (and cheap) Yves Rocher Rose Absolue. Oh, and that slut Tocade – also cheap and wonderful. If you want a photo-realistic rose, Creeds The Rose Bulgare would work – it’s too real smelling for me, though.

L’arte di Gucci is a fabulous rose (sadly discontinued)

I’ve been trying lots of rose scents but still think AT Une Rose is top of my list. I notice SSS Vintage Rose gets lots of raves. I’ve fallen for Bois de Paradis so maybe this is a nice follow up. Amouage Lyric is beautiful, too.

Sounds interesting–a new Delrae always gets to the top of my to try list. Loved the rose note in Bois de Paradis, but I suspect this will be a very different one, not to mention very different supporting notes.

My only disappointment is that it looks like Delrae is no longer working with Michel Roudnitska, one of my favorite noses. Say it wasn’t Emotionelle!

I hardly ever get excited about new releases because I’m still catching up on the old ones! But I have to admit this one has got me planning a sniffing trip to SF to check it out. I admire the obvious quality of the whole line, and am still looking for my perfect rose (or at least a rose less expensive than Lyric Woman).

Not so fast SarahBeth–don’t forget Malle’s Une Rose (dark wine and earth), Tauer’s Incense Rose (smokey, not too sweet), and just for everyday, Gres’s Caberet. That ought to keep you busy.

DelRae Does Rose. In my mind, I’m already there!

I’m only here briefly, as I’m snagging my SIL’s ‘puter for a lil minit. (Wore Eau Premiere to the NZ embassy reception last night, really nice…) Heading off to Red Sox-Orioles game later today.

Fave roses: Citizen Queen, L’Arte di Gucci, PdRosine Rose d’Ete, SSS Velvet Rose, Amouage Lyric, MFK Lumiere Noire. YSL Paris’ spring flankers, of course. DSH Rose Vert. The list goes on and onnnnnn…

O.K., I got a chance to try a quick spritz at the Barney’s in Las Vegas.

The verdict? What I suspected: it’s worth a try (I’ll graduate to a sample), especially for rose fans, although it didn’t immediately rock my world the way Amoureuse and Bois de Paradis did on first sniff.

I’m wearing this today, and it is pretty amazing.

My first thought was, WOW. This Is Beautiful. Swiftly followed by, This Must Be What Money Smells Like. It’s so pretty, so elegant, so… mmmm. Good.

It’s bright with lemon and almost sparkly with grapefruit, but velvety and smooth too. A creaminess is there too–maybe from the peony? I don’t know yet whether it is FB worthy, but I’d hop on a decant in a second.
