A trailer for an Arthaus documentary on Coco Chanel. Includes wonderful footage of Ms. Chanel talking about the importance of perfume.

Note to self: avoid consorting with dirty people. 😉
words to live by…
That really resonated after having just (finally) watching Coco Avant Chanel…what a long way she brought herself.
Very well put, R. She really was a self-made woman and needed that tough exterior to survive. I thought that Audrey Tatou really captured her resilience and also gave us glimpses of the vulnerable, abandoned little girl underneath. (I think if ever there was a case to be made for a sequel, Coco Before Chanel is it.)
Oh, I hope they’re doing something else! But hard to picture AT playing someone as tough as CC in her later years.
I read Valèry several years ago but never came across his comment about women having no future without the right perfume. Now those are words to live by! (Valèry was obviously one of the royal enablers of his time…)
LOL…and if only he’d known the term ‘lemming’.
I love the idea that perfume is the ultimate accessory. It really is true.
🙂
I like her! Opinionated, very well spoken, so staunch in her belief in the absolute importance of perfume. As to consorting with dirty people I’m relieved to know that I hang out on a daily basis with the finest smelling people on this planet!
LOL…ditto.
It’s interesting seeing Coco Chanel fidget with her necklace, her bracelets, almost as if she was a real person! 😉
Those are some words to live by, too.
True, she was fidgety!
Terrific, thanks for that. I’d love to see the whole doco. I wonder if it will deal honestly with Chanel’s less than heroic performance during the Second World War. It’s imperfections and vulnerability that make people interesting …
Don’t know a thing about the documentary, so no idea.
She was very tough. I’ve seen many snippets of her interviews over the years.
On this particular interview she seems more open and even playful.
I will look for this documentary, as I enjoyed this very much!
When she says “a woman that perfumes herself badly has no future” !!! that was very funny and at the same time… very true!!! hehehehehe
It is interesting that she does not come across this way in Coco Avant Chanel. I am not sure Audrey Tautou can do tough.
