Art. Lebedev Studio Levelus ~ new fragrance, or not

Posted by Robin on 6 April 2010 72 Comments

Art Lebedev Studio Levelus

Shown above, Levelus spirit level perfume, from Art. Lebedev Studio:

This spirit level, which is also a bottle of perfume, is something an elegant carpenter could never do without.

Levelus is a fresh scent to highlight your love of life and self-confidence. The fragrance opens with a bright chord: Calabriane bergamot, rosemary and clementine oil. The optimistic wood notes of birch, cedar and vetiver are balanced with gentle iris root and cardamom.

The bottle is designed for an emotional, strong and self-confident man who doesn’t waste his time.

For frequent use, there are replacement perfume containers. Levelus comes in 20, 40 and 60 mL bottles.

The copy further notes that "Just sitting on your shelf, it still works, indicating whether the surface is level" — perfect! I am not sure if this is just a conceptual art piece or if the product is actually for sale. Whatever it is, I want one. (via artlebedev, with many thanks to Jan for the link)

Update: many thanks to Bela, who noticed that the release date on this product was 4/1. So, probably an excellent April Fools joke, but I still say it has a potential market! Just look at how many people here want one.

This is really clever, but the bubble would get too big after just one use, to actually maintain its functionality as a tool.

Heheh. And a “man who doesn’t waste his time” might find applying this particular frag too fiddly! I want it for my collection, though.

After you’ve had a few spritzes–well, be fair, a quarter of the bottle–the spirit level will no longer work.

Don’t care, though. That is one clever, delightful bottle.

I always thought those bubble-things were just called “levels,” so right now I’m loving the term “spirit level”! I also want that bottle! I’m not sure about the fragrance, though. I’d probably just buy it to display as an artwork. :)

MJR – Glad you’re on here this a.m. so I can say: CONGRATULATIONS on your team’s national title win. Well played.

And I agree that I want that bottle!

Oh yes! CONGRATULATIONS! although they had me scared for a while there….I was totally counting on them to punish Butler for what they did to my Spartans….

I pulled an ab muscle screaming and jumping to my feet near the end when Howard took that shot that missed and Zoubek got the rebound & was fouled. We were very very scared at my watch party.

Oh wow, Rapple! THANK YOU! It’s a great feeling. What a hard fought basketball game! Butler has an outstanding team. It could have gone either way at any point really — and certainly at the end with that half-court shot that looked good. I was *very* impressed by the grit and guts it took to win that thing on the part of our team. In recent years, I think we would have lacked the mental fortitude to gut it out. But today, we celebrate!

LOL! In my *distant* memory (1998) I remember what a great feeling it was to celebrate such a win. Savor it….

Even some of the commenters on one of the Ky. b’ball sites praised Duke’s team play and effort. And U. K. fans NEVER praise Duke!

This would be an adorable gift for a man (or a carpentry-minded lass) but true; it’s utility would be ruined by usage….unless the spray top comes off so when it was used up, you could replace the fluid with colored water and then have it for display.

Thank you all! I was feeling kind of crappy this morning —birthdays have always done that to me….even when I was in my 20’s every b-day just made me feel “one step closer to the grave” depressing, eh?
But I have to say–you all have made me feel so much better! Really, no tears at all today! (and that’s saying something!)

A very HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you dear Daisy, and what a lovely gift you received! Hmm, I thought I was one of the only ones out there that had morbid thoughts like that. I too have viewed each b-day as the “one step closer” thing even in my 20s also. It’s kinda robbed me of the quality of life at times.

That bottle is so cool. I always used to play with my Dad’s levels when I was little – trying to line up all the bubbles in my hands on his multidirectional level. Such a neat concept. It reads like it would smell good too!

I’m so glad I’m not the only one who employed the level as a toy. I was more obsessed with the green liquid inside than anything else. So it goes without saying, this really appeals to me.

me too! and the fluid was a very intriguing phosphorescent green….I always imagined that if it got out ; we’d all be in terrible danger! ( of course I also used to watch the Saturday Monster Movie Matinee with my brother….it’s no wonder I spent half of my childhood terrified)

I love those old monster movies, esp the black and white ones. I still watch them – they are amazing – so much bad editing, bad props, but so charming. The imagination fills in all the blanks. My toddler loves them too. You’d be surprised how many of them are toddler friendly by today’s standards of cartoon violence.

LOL I know!! They’re like comedies now! At 5 or 6 I was SCARED! Made Matt sit closer to the TV in case anything “got out” …oh, and the time he hid under my bed and grabbed my foot—well he’s lucky I didn’t pee right on him….stupid kid! Aren’t big brothers great? Of course I couldn’t go running to mom either, because then the movies would get outlawed!
Now when we all come across one of those old b&w movies …there’s much joking and voice-overing and general merriment.

I just wanted to say Thank you to everyone for the birthday wishes today—I can honestly say that this has been one of the best birthdays I can ever remember! Maybe it’s silly, but I usually mope (and I mean MOOOOOPE ) on my birthday but you all kept my spirits up! See, now you know something about me that most people I know “in person” don’t know— everyone thinks I’m always “up” “cheery & bubbly” , if I show up somewhere and be quiet: in no time at all everyone will be asking if I’m sick! I’m a “closet birthday depressive” —but this can be our secret, yes? ;-)

Sorry to be so late in my well-wishing. I hope it was a great day and I want those attars for myself. Maybe on my birthday! I’ve never really celebrated my birthday because it is exactly in the middle of the week between Christmas and New Year – the week everybody is out of town visiting relatives – so I haven’t ever really had birthday parties, just a few times. I’m glad this one was happy for you!
