Stupidest name EVER.
It almost sounds like a work-in-progress name that the lab would give a scent during its development… like, the brief specified something “inspired” by MJ Lola, and this was the 5th version.
I’m sure I’m reading too much into it. I wonder how much we can rely on Life & Style, anyway…
lol
Very fitting name, just as unorginal and boring as Aniston herself… IMO at least:)
Why didn’t she name it Jennifer A? Mark Jacobs already did a Lola perfume. It makes no sense to me, but I guess she has her reasons.
My thoughts exactly!
Lola V? Is that a reference to something specific? Also, strange that she would name it that when there’s already a fragrance named Lola.
It took a year to come up with something that Marc Jacobs lauched months ago? Shouldn’t there be a young whipper-snapper marketing guru that sat with a confused focus group – pointing out the similarity?
I have to say I am a bit ashamed, there have been wonderful threads in the last couple of days that I did not post in. I choose to speak up on this! Where are my priorities?
Not a good start, Jennifer.
The only thing I find puzzling is her quote – ‘it has to smell right’ which in itself is really not very creative. This is her statement? Maybe she could have been more ‘picky’ with her description since she’s worked on it for a year.
Good Lord! I hadn’t read that until now. Yeah girl, it’s got to “smell right”. Is that really the only sentence she could put together to describe a project she claims to have devoted so much time to? Colossal fail.
Under-whelmed to say the least.
I have to wonder if Marc Jacobs won’t have something to say about it.
Were “Desperation” and “Clueless” already taken? I really don’t mind her, but…..ugh, I can’t even finish my thought….
HA!
I’ll second that, Mals! still laughing. I don’t like to poke fun at anyone but sometimes it’s impossible not to snicker:)
HA is right!
Like everyone else, I am totally dumbfounded by the name. I really don’t know what else to say.
Is this another April Fools joke?
That was my second thought.
Lola V – as in the roman numeral V? *confused*
Or maybe V. as in an initial… and since Kitty V. was taken, she went with Lola. 😉
I am just full of stupid comments this morning.
Surprised at the reactions, I admit — I really don’t much think it matters what she calls it! But Lola might be problem with the Marc Jacobs.
It just seems, especially after she wanted to name it after herself, to pick such a mundane and unoriginal name is baffling. I would have thought she’d want something to distinguish it from the rest of the herd. Oh well…
That’s exactly it. If you’re new to the market and focused on branding, why not pick a name that’s immediately identifiable with yo’ hot celebrity self?
I’m not saying I’m unwilling to smell it. But for heaven’s sake, the name indicates that there wasn’t a whole lot of (coherent) thought that went into it.
Well, I think the point most of us are trying to make is that she spent– how long? A year?– picking a name for this fragrance and now it’s something strange and disconnected. It’s like your friend taking 30 minutes looking at the menu for a restaurant and getting a plain ol’ burger or something: surely she could do better?
I’m not disagreeing with anyone. Maybe most of my surprise is just how much response this got. Would not have thought this many people cared…but maybe it’s just because it’s a slow news day, LOL…
But totally agree it isn’t a great name. Also think we should all bear in mind that it might not turn out to be the name at all…doubt it is “official” yet.
Maybe she wants to show a different side to her personality? Jennifer A by day, “Lola V” by night, or something like that? First thing I thought of was the Barry Manillow song….
Yeah, I’m thinking maybe that’s her secret playtime name or something that I don’t want to think about. Or her drag name.
Yeah…if Beyonce can be “Sasha Fierce”, why can’t Jen be “Lola V”? 😀
I imagine the scent notes for a Jennifer Aniston perfume would be sugar’n’spice, Ivory soap, and the salt from tears of bitter betrayal…
OMG that’s harsh, and hilarious!
I have to admit I was feeling a bit sorry for Jen reading this thread and the barrage of negative feedback but I couldn’t help laughing very hard at that comment! As Frida said, harsh but hilarious!
Lola?!? Please tell me that was the name of her first fish, or her best friend from kindergarten? Anything to give some warm fuzzy feelings about an uninspired name.
W.T.F.????? SRSLY?
Uh…I don’t think she meant she worked on the NAME for over a year. Seems she meant the FRAGRANCE.
And I too don’t understand the animosity towards J.? Loved her in Friends!!!
Yeah, I like her too and have no issue with her or with how she looks. I think the frag name is kind of stupid but whatev. I’m sure it’ll sell (at least for awhile) no matter what the name.
Oh, I don’t have any animosity toward her at all (I frankly think she’s boring… “lo más ordinario que puede haber” as they say).
I just think this name is unfortunate right on the heels of MJ Lola.
For those of us of a certain age, this is the connotation:

I have seen people on a much cattier blog call her Maniston
Yep.
And for me, it was this before it was anything else:

🙂
worked for Chanel, might work for Jen as well (Lola 5)
Jen, if you read all this sh…t, do not give a damn…: D
Well, not very original!
I will agree with all of you and admit this is a silly name and who really cares, but I never fault anyone for cashing in if they can, especially actors and actresses who’s careers have short shelf lives generally speaking.
Is she trying to piss off Madonna? I read that Madonna & daughter Lourdes is working on a scent, marketed toward pre-teens. And little Lourdes nickname: Lola!
aw, I don’t understand all the hate leveled at her either, Robin. re Maniston : She’s not a natural beauty but she works hard to be as attractive as she can possibly be…which is pretty attractive. And which I respect more than someone who was just born looking good. And in case she was hot enough to inspire her own hairstyle trend!!!!
OK…just read that Life & Style reported the name wrong. It’s actually Lola Vie (if that’s any better)!?
Name schmame – what are the notes? What does it smell like? I like Jen & fashion wise, she’s very tasteful. I wouldn’t be shocked if her perfume smells good. But we shall see…
I seriously doubt it will be on the counters long enough to make a difference what the name is anyways. *Shrugs*
BREAKING NEWS: According to the Scented Salamander blog, the perfume will actually be called “Lola Vie” which translates to mean “Laughing At Life”. LOL
I just heard this on E! News a few minutes agao and had to rush to the computer to find out if anyone could confirm this. I am still having giggling fits. It’s that kinda day.
Gracious. That doesn’t change things much.
and I was sooo hoping for Rachel R (…for reloaded), what a pity
She should call it “Brad” or “Kill Angelina”.
No, no, I have the answer!
Obviously Jen must be a big fan of Jasper Fforde’s books and has named her perfume after his character Lola Vavoom, whose name he explains here:
“I made this up as an actress of some small talent made larger by a wild life and numerous husbands… But wherefore the name? ‘Montana Wildhack’ was the name of the starlet kidnapped by the Tralfamadorians in ‘Slaughterhouse-5’ and I liked that name a lot; it’s almost as good as ‘Chad Palomino’, the daytime male soap star turned film actor in ‘Living in Oblivion’ an excellent film by Steve Buscemi.”
http://www.jasperfforde.com/compwinners.html
BTW, do you suppose Steve Buscemi is going to put out a perfume any time soon? That would be a hoot.
That *would* be a hoot!
wow, that’s an idea (and: how could I soo underestimate poor Rachel)…well, rainy weather, I’ll undust my Jasper Ffordes, I had completely forgotten the Vavoom character, am of course a Thursday fan 🙂
now, what would her scent be?
