Bath & Body Works Orange Sapphire ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 8 March 2010 25 Comments

Bath & Body Works Orange Sapphire

Bath & Body Works has launched Orange Sapphire, a new addition to their Signature Collection:

Master perfumers have layered exotic blood orange with tantalizing notes of white jasmine, golden honey and citrus sangria to create a sexy new fragrance inspired by the fiery passion and sunswept beaches of Brazil.

Additional notes include Tarocco orange, grapefruit, bergamot, mandarin, davana, black currant buds, raspberry, peach, orange blossom, magnolia, orchid, freesia, muguet, musk, light patchouli, vetiver, white amber, vanilla, cognac and myrrh.

Bath & Body Works Orange Sapphire is available in 75 ml Eau de Toilette ($29.50) or in a variety of bath & body products. (via bathandbodyworks.com)

Sounds like something I’d want to try?

The white amber, magnolia, and the blood orange notes make it interesting.

I didn’t get any of those when I tried it. BIG peach. Very sweet. A little herbal something. Maybe a flower? Actually, the amber comes through, and the sweet peach mango thing could be a blood orange, but I wouldn’t recognize it as such. It doesn’t have the Campari acerbic quality I associate with blood oranges.

Hope this isn’t another fruit salad. I love the color scheme. (Maybe it’s because I was raised a Denver Bronco’s fan? lol) I do usually like orange notes in fragrance and the dry down notes give me a bit of hope. At least it’s readily accessible to sniff for me.

Side note: At BBW’s last promo, I bought five fragrances (buy 3, get 2 free) and got Twilight Woods, Black Amethyst and Vanilla Noir for myself and I have to say I am loving Vanilla Noir! It is a nice cheap replacement for my La Maison de la Vanille – Vanille Divine des Tropiques.

I like Amethyst. I would love to try some of the La Maison de Vanille. I think the Vanilla and Passionfruit scent piqued my interest.

I hope so too…it really does sound nice, and I love orange.

I like the sound of it – hopefully, it won’t turn sickeningly sweet or have a cheap chemical smell. At least the lotion should be good – I layer the White Citrus lotion with Cristalle Eau Verte to increase it’s lasting power. I’m sure that I can find something to layer Orange Sapphire with.

I’m all about honey and orange, but most of BBW’s products smell like powdered chemicals on me.

Ditto…I’ll try a lot of stuff, but B&BW gives me the sneezes.

The *store* gives me the sneezes, so I usually make up my mind what I want before I go in there so I don’t have to linger. But individually their fragrances don’t bother me. Oh wait – except Japanese Cherry Blossom for some reason.

It set my mucus membranes on fire the other day! I don’t know what it is… I felt okay around Orange Sapphire, but something in either the new Moonlit Path or Sweet Pea did NOT agree with me.

When I tried this the other day, I found it very sweet. As sweet as Moon Sparkle, but with tart peach instead of berries.

This sounds like something I’d spritz on to wear to the beach — and I just might buy it for that reason alone. The name makes me laugh a little, but overall I think it could be a fun little fragrance for those moments when you really don’t -need- to be wearing a fragrance.

An orange sapphire (carborundum) is a padparadsha, and I assume they’re calling it “orange sapphire” because no one can spell “padparadsha”. (There are many variations!)

Or because they don’t want it confused with Satellite’s rather nifty spicy little fragrance Padparadscha.

Ooh, I just tried this one the other day along with the 60’s flankers for Sweet Pea and Moonlit Path.

Of the three this one was my favorite, but it is VERY sweet, and smells more like peaches than orange to my nose. Maybe there’s some mango in there? A little vanilla, a tiny hint of something herbal that might be vetiver? There’s also some musk that’s a little heavier than what I’d usually wear. It’s actually a pretty good tart neon orange canned peach smell, livelier than The Body Shop’s Fuzzy Peach, and not unlike an Escada summer scent. It’s the sort of think I’d love, except that it strikes me as too neon summery to wear now, and too syrupy sweet (and strong!) for the actual summer.

I only took very quick sniffs of the 60s themed flankers, and I think something set off an allergic reaction. Sweet Pea was very sweet and sort of a non-descript pear/jasmine thing. Moonlit path was surprisingly dry, a little salty, and reminded me of the Harajuku Lover’s scent that smells like Play Doh.

Well, there goes that: I am not after sweet peach. Thanks so much for the detailed review!

I was really disappointed with this one. I tried the tester and on me, it managed to be both too sweet and also sort of masculine. Ugh. I was looking forward to it.

I was intrigued so I went in there today. When I first spritzed it I was OVER WHELMED with ORANGE. Almost like Orange Glo. But now that it’s settled down I like it very much – it’s still sweet but I can smell the herbal/musky/flowers and it still has a citrus waft to it. Very sunny. It doesn’t smell all that “sexy” to me- but it’s sexier than Clinique’s Happy.

Sexier than Clinique Happy isn’t necessarily very sexy, LOL! But thanks for the review, Orange Glo actually sounds good to me.

I just bought a travel sized bottle of this scent in their body spray. I get absolutely no hint of peach, at all….even a little. it’s a very deep citrus scent. not your average orangey scent, but blood orange, mandarin type citrus, with a hit of deeper spice, making it less beachy citrus than you’d think. it dries down to a very sexy citrus scent. i’m smelling it in the bottle right now and trying to figure out where peach could come in, but i’m not finding it. perfumes are very hard things to judge based on reviews. they can give you a good idea, but since your own chemistry is at least half the equation, it’s impossible to tell how it will smell on you. if you enjoy citrus, especially the deeper side of it, i’d urge you to test drive this. it’s quite nice.
