Cartier Eau de Cartier Essence d’Orange ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 25 February 2010 34 Comments

Cartier will launch Eau de Cartier Essence d'Orange, a new unisex flanker to 2001's Eau de Cartier, in April:

A wonderful new unisex fragrance from Cartier. The Eau de Cartier Orange draws its brightness from a vibrant and luminous citrus cocktail start (orange, bergamote), a delicate floral heart (violette flowers, acacia) and trails with sensual woody amber notes (cedarwood, patchouli).

Cartier Eau de Cartier Essence d'Orange will be available in 100 and 200 ml Eau de Toilette. (quote via scentstore.co.uk, additional information via cosmoty.de)

At first I was excited when I saw this, but then the cedar scared me away.

If you like the original, it has the same drydown notes (cedar and patchouli, plus I smell some vanilla), and the cedar is very subdued.

I’m excited to see this as I’m a big fan of the original Eau de Cartier, and I’m looking for a new citrus to love. Plus I just adore the bottles!

I like the original a lot, but have scary reactions to it, so there must be something in there I’m highly allergic to (I’ve suspected the yuzu, as I’ve had citrus issues in the past). I’ll definitely want to try this and see if I can get away with it, or if I’ll have issues with this one as well. Such a shame, I think the original is summer perfection.

That is a shame! Who knows, though, this one might not have the ingredient that bothers you!

Oh, too bad! There’s so much citrus in fragrance that I’m surprised you can wear anything unless it’s something very specific.

That’s why I think it’s the yuzu, though of course it could be anything at all, even something *not* citrus. That just seemed the most likely suspect. When I was very young, orange juice made me turn blue and swell up; I can drink it now, but it gives me terrible reflux, yet eating an orange doesn’t bother me much at all. So, who knows. All I know is the EdC makes my pulse race and skip…and not in a good way.

Ack. You’re braver than I am — I’d probably give up fragrance.

The only Cartier I’ve ever loved was So Pretty, but I do enjoy citrus. (Although I’m with Minnie, the cedar does concern me…)

I’ve always liked the original EdC. Not sure I’ve ever tried one of the flankers though.

Everyone’s doing oranges lately, eh? Oh well, I’ll sniff it when I see it because I really do enjoy their original. Thanks for letting us know :-)

Sounds great to me! I used to love Caron’s Eau de Caron Forte in the summer, and I’d love to find another orange “splash.” I’ll be trying this one.

Ooh, I like that one too! Do you like 06130 Yuzu Rouge or Guerlain Imperiale? They all have a similarly delicious juicyness to my nose.

This sounds very good. I love the original and if Cartiercould combine the opening of AA Mandarin Basilic with the middle and drydown of the Eau de Cartier that could be fantastic.

Wait a minute…April? I think I sniffed this in House of Fraser last week – there aren’t any other new Cartiers out at the moment, are there? It was nice enough, not very citrussy, a bit dull.

Hi! Just discovered this website. Love the new Cartier fragrance…HOWEVER…can anyone tell me where I can find So Pretty de Cartier???? I have loved this fragrance and its entire line of products since it was introduced in 1995. When they discontinued it…I was heartbroken. (A little dramatic I’m sure…but when we fragrance lovers grow attached to something…a discontinuance is traumatic!) Anyway…if anyone can direct me I would be grateful! (I do manage to secure it on ebay from time to time…but they just don’t carry the lotions and body creams that I so love!) Thanks much!

    I just tried this.
It has the drydown of the original.

The “orange” notes are drier that you’d expect (and not “natural” orange, but not Tang either, something in between), and it reminds me of my mom’s makeup bag’s smell (a mix of reaaaally soft suede and a general “cosmetics” scent…but NO powder, thank God!)

If I ever get this at a discount, I might buy it.

Does anyone know about Au de Cartier: Limited Edition? (same amber bottle as the Orange but different fragrance) it is sooo good but hard to find. And, if there is anyone who knows the Au De Cartier – Limited Edition, I’m wondering do you find it very similar to Hermes Voyage? I feel like the Hermes Voyage is a good replacement for the LImited Edition AdC (but I still wish I didn’t need to find a replacement)…

They have done lots of flankers for Eau de Cartier over the years, but never heard of Au de Cartier, no.

Eau, how funny. i did mean: “Eau de Cartier Limited Edition.” Here is a picture of the bottle in the case:

    http://compare.ebay.com/like/180504603002?var=lv&ltyp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar

    What is a flanker?

Does anyone know what happens to limited edition recipes? Do they ever come back? Is my only option to hunt it down on ebay or in perfume pagodas in malls? Department stores do not carry my EdC Limited Edition! And so many say they have never heard of it.
    :(

A flanker is just a variation on a fragrance. Have you tried the regular Eau de Cartier? It’s probably at least similar to the one you liked. Or, yes, those are your options: ebay or perfume pagodas. They do sometimes bring them back, but not all that often.
