Props to the ad agency that came up with this, and props to Joe for sending me a link. And yes, Old Spice is great stuff.

I love when his towel falls off.
Yes.
Best commercial ever!
It can’t beat Mandom, but it’s close! Very well done.
What’s Mandom? I need to see that one, if its better than this one!!
Never mind, just read a little further and saw the answer
This is terrific. What is Mandom?

LOL!! I must have missed this last week. HILARIOUS!
OK, I like it. But not so fond of the “don’t smell like a lady” injunction, however tongue in cheek…
Actually, Joe said that too. In this context it doesn’t bother me at all, and besides, Old Spice smells great on women so that makes it extra funny.
And adding: Old Spice is mostly carnation. It smells like a man only because for people of a certain age, that’s what many men smelled like. But I really think if you could find a perfumista who had never smelled it, they’d peg it as a 1930s/1940s feminine. So there’s something extra funny about the “lady scented body wash” to me.
I know, I know, I feel very PC and curmudgeonly, but it still gives me a twinge. Especially because I don’t think the ad needs it to be funny.
Maybe I’m showing my age–just grew up in a time and place (Idaho) where people actually said things like that and meant them. And then beat you up if you didn’t listen.
But I did laugh! Especially at the towel, the sweater on his naked shoulders, and all the “look up! look down!” And I really like that it’s addressed so clearly to women–it’s about time they acknowledged it’s actually girlfriends who are buying most of this stuff.
Hey, no worries — I’m curmudgeonly about so very many things!
And absolutely, makes way more sense that they’re advertising it to women. Supposedly. I mean, I do wonder when/where they’re running it.
“I’m on a horse”
Yes!! Really, whoever is writing for this company could be writing for The Simpsons.
The Bruce Campbell Old Spice ads were a really funny series too.
I forwarded this to the husband, and I swear, he almost peed himself laughing. He kept repeating, “I’m on a horse.”
LOL!!! yup, gotta go watch that again!!!
It’s worth watching a few times.
Definitely!
I love it! More, more, more!!!
Mind you, my Dad wore Old Spice…
So did mine! And for that reason, I’m probably not going to wear OS (nor will The CEO, because that would be Just Too Weird) – but it sure does smell wonderful to me.
I still say it’s better than much of what’s out there now for men.
Mine too, and he smelled darn good. It’s an endearing fragrance, not a disturbing one.
Can’t stop *giggling*.
🙂
OMG! Loved this! I know I’ll be watching this over and over today, and emailing links to friends. Thanks for picking up my spirits on a day that will be spent shoveling snow!
I.Hate.Snow.
ME. TOO.
I feel bad for you guys. Admittedly, I love snow. But then again, I live in California now.
I love snow, too – especially now that I live in the South. Last week we had our first veritable snow storm in *five* yes, count’em, *five* years! I loved every minute of it. And I admit some mild jealousy of people who are getting the big storms, though I don’t envy the power outages, etc.
If it’s not there yet, it’s coming…again. 🙁 We got about 10″ between yesterday and today. Blah.
I think it’s very rude for you to send your unwanted snow towards me!
🙁
Hey, I love snow. You know what snow means to me: snow day and cookies. Yep, the library is closed on snow days. My husband can shovel out the car, and as long as there is power, I can surf the web and make cookies in my PJs. Yep, snow days forever. As much as I do feel sorry for you downlanders who aren’t used to the white stuff… we normally get about 55+ inches of snow each winter. And in case anyone is still reading this: the best fragrance to wear for shoveling snow is Vol de Nuit.
Daisy – blame Canada. I always do. Ann: yes, if it meant a day off, I’d love it too…but we didn’t even get school starting late! Not sure what it takes, other than glare ice, but we haven’t had delays or closings in ages…too many working parents complain about the inconvenience. Of course, at some point in early April, we’ll get 2″ and they’ll close then, because they haven’t used up the budgeted snow days. :O
Hilarious! But even better, it makes me want to go out and buy Old Spice. You know how sometimes you see a clever ad, and it make you laugh out loud but you can’t for the life of you remember what it is they were actually selling? (“Herding Cats” was one of those for me, for those of you who remember some Super Bowls past). This ad has got the cute guy, the send-up of perfume ads past, great wit–and you’ll remember it’s about Old Spice!
Yes — good point!
Totally agree! As soon as I stopped laughing it was all: Aw, Old Spice, I loved the smell of that stuff…I should get some.
Make me laugh, win my affections, and prolly my shopping dollars too. Go Old Spice!
…I was about to commit to buying some body wash at LuckyScent, and now I’ve got my eye on a bottle of Old Spice. My dad still wears the stuff (like so many others) and it’s a comfort scent. I’m a little worried that the husband will miss smelling like a lady though : )
LOL! Way cute, and so is he! As far as I’m concerned, every guy I know could wear Old Spice, and I’d be very happy.
Yep.
This is downright the best fragrance commercial I’ve ever seen in my life!
It’s up there, for sure.
That is very trippy.
It is.
This is hilarious and deeply weird. The gender stuff should bother me, but doesn’t here for some reason.
No, it doesn’t bother me here either…too obvious that it’s all tongue in cheek.
WOW!!! Robin, you really know how to bring warmth to the snow-bound: there is nothing better than sex appeal AND humor! I also love the sweater artfully/casually tied over his BARE shoulders. You can tell the gang who made this one just decided to have as much fun as possible. ROTFL!
And so much more fun than when the person in the ad is trying to look sexy but just looks bored. We need more humor in fragrance ads, for sure.
Sexy + funny FTW, for sure.
I just realized that both this ad and Mandom have whinnying horses! There must be an ad man thesaurus somewhere that links whinnying horses with masculine nirvana….or maybe it’s something in The Interpretation of Dreams. I’m glad they lost the guns, though.
Hey, good point!
And isn’t there a horse in the new Voyage d’Hermes ad? I don’t think we see it whinny, but I think it does buck…
Yes!!! Wow, horses everywhere.
And then there’s the centaur-in-the-shower Old Spice ad. I think it was for some kind of two-in-one product, maybe a moisturizing bodywash? It was kind of funny, kind of really weird …
OMG this is brilliant! I am tweeting this link today! Thank you!
Thank Joe!
“Look at your man. Look at me. Look up. Look down” Oh my! Brilliant! I’ve never smelled Old Spice but I want to now! Thanks Robin!
It’s actually a really nice carnation. If they spent more on the formula (it’s really dreadfully cheap) it would be in every perfumista’s collection.
This really is a good one. Nice that it brought so much fun to everyone’s day!
I was really mostly jesting when I said the “lady-scented bodywash” bothered me… since the whole thing is so over-the-top and tongue-in-cheek. There’s another funny one that comes up on the sidebar if you actually click through to the Youtube version of this (another guy on a horse).
Oh, then sorry for misreporting! And will go look for the other, I missed that.
Thank you, Joe!! The aerobic laughter caused by these awesome ads is good for our health!
I just saw this ad on tv last night for the first time and my BF and I both thought it was hilarious! We need more ads like that.
We really do. So much advertising is DREARY. Including most perfume advertising.
OMG! My day has started out oh-so-much-better because of you. In fact, I HAVE to go get me some today!! lol
Oh good, do!
Extra giggles from me, because my 17 yr old nephew wears OS, and I can see him totally looking up to this guy. The boat, the tickets, the jewels… and it will all come to him as well, because he wears OS. LOL!
Well props to him too then, for not wearing Axe!
omg that was AWESOME!
Agreed.
I wonder how he got the horse (at the end) to agree that he’s on a horse? LOL! A man, a horse, the ocean….and Old Spice? hmmmm.
Clever.
It’s amazing how they get him on that horse at all. Very smoothly done.
I’m going out to buy Old Spice body wash even though I’m not a guy and I don’t have a boyfriend to use it, just because that commercial is SO INCREDIBLY AWESOME.
Good!
Great ad! It puts all those totally annoying super sexed up ads to shame. It is so funny! I knew a girl in high school – yes back in the 80s – who used to wear OS deoderant and I use the OS shaving cream to shave my legs as it does NOT smell like some annoying chem fruit stuff they sell for the ladies.
Oh, I should try the shaving cream!
YEEEEEEEEEESSSSS.
Of course, frankly, tell me who would mind if this guy smelled like Cherry Vanilla Moisturizing Body Wash.
Not me! Perfect casting in this commercial.
Make that Lady Cherry Vanilla.
We must ALL add an OS product to our next trips to the supermarket or drug store so that Madison avenue and mainstream fragrance companies get the point that THIS is what sells scents: good smell, great price, sense of humor, and awesome guy! 🙂
OMG that was amazing…great!!! not so serious…I’ll o out buy some old spice just to think of him on horse or on a boat or with a towel or with diamonds or with tickets to that “thing” I want….HAHA
Tickets to that thing you love!!! I spewed tea the first time he said it.
I posted this on my facebook – love it! And the lady body-wash part doesn’t remotely bother me, since the whole thing is so ridiculous. Must get some OS body wash!! Even if it is just for me.
I might need some too 🙂
