Bunch o’ limited edition collector bottles 2010, part 2

Posted by Robin on 30 January 2010 26 Comments

More limited edition collector fragrance bottles, with the usual disclaimers: in most of these cases, the juice is unchanged, just the bottle is “special” (or not, as the case may be), and some of these may not be available in the US.

Estee Lauder Sensuous Collectors EditionJean Paul Gaultier Ma Dame limited edition

From Estee Lauder, the Sensuous Collector's Edition with bulb atomizer. Coming in April in 50 ml Eau de Parfum, $65. (via cosmeticworld)

From Jean Paul Gaultier, a limited edition of Ma Dame with "kiss me love me" on the front. Why, I don't know, but it's 60€ at Sephora in France.

L'Occitane Wild Cherry Tree perfume solid

Strictly speaking, this doesn't qualify as a collector item, but it's too cute to ignore. A limited edition solid fragrance for the limited edition Wild Cherry Tree / Cerisier des Oiseaux from L'Occitane. 12€ at L'Occitane in France.

Hugo Boss One Fragrance One Tree

From Hugo Boss, the "One Fragrance One Tree" project, in collaboration with Pur Projet: buy a specially marked bottle of Hugo Man or Hugo Element, and they'll plant a tree in the Peruvian rainforest. A "personal tree code" on the package will allow the purchaser to see the location of the tree via Google Earth. Both bottles can now be found at Douglas in Germany. (additional information via cosmeticsdesign)

Wow – those first two are utterly underwhelming. I love ELs solid perfume collectors editions – but that is just, ummm… insulting. They added a bulb atomizer onto the regular bottle? And the Ma Dame is insulting, too – what did they do? Add a sticker to the regular bottle?

Dang… now my dander is all up this morning and that just made me cranky. I’ll just inhale the Parfum Sacre that I’m wearing today and try to calm down.

I hate bulb atomizers in any case, but the Sensuous bottle does look pretty and at least they’re not charging an arm & a leg for it, I guess. The Ma Dame, whatever — it doesn’t float my boat either. But I do love that solid from L’Occitane!

The solid is definitely cute – I wish it was in something that I liked.

Yeah, that Sensuous doesn’t bother me since the price isn’t much more (or any more?) than the regular bottle. And I was thinking… if I were a woman, and I owned only a couple of well-loved scents in heavy use that would be used up within a year or two, I’d totally buy a bulb atomizer to feel glamorous while spritzing or whatever. Yeah, I can see why they appeal.

I love bulb atomizers and they sure do look cute sitting on a dresser, but I know I’m in the minority here with that opinion. I understand why people don’t like them – they’re very impractical.

In your corner w/ a love for elegant bulb atomizers!! If anyone remembers the gorgeous Marcel Frank and Step atomizers from France, you may change your tune! Need to re-locate those companys…:-)

Oh, if I were going to use something up quickly I’d probably buy them too. But they’re not good for long term shelf life.

Well, I like the little solid from L’Occitaine. At first glance it looked like a new crazylibellule and the poppies fragrance.

It does look like their Crazy sticks — cute! I hope they’ll do them in more scents, since I don’t want this one.

That was exactly my thought too! I thought it was them at first. Why would they present something almost identical to someone else’s product? I think their tin boxes with solid scent are perfectly fine. And they can resist liquid, which this little thing doesn’t.

I don’t know … the shape is the same, but the label doesn’t look the same to me at all. In other words, I don’t think I’d mistake the brand, and do rather doubt that CL has patented the original packaging (in fact, don’t see how they could since that same packaging is used for other things, like lip balms).

And you’re right that the tins are cute, but I still like these better since the application is neater.

Since my daughter loves cherry blossoms AND birds – that cute L’Occitane item seems made for her. That would be an adorable Valentine’s Day treat for her. I hope it’s not only available in France? Off to check their site…

I don’t think it’s in the US yet, but L’Occitane usually launches in France before here — so assuming it will get here.

The L’Occitane Cherry Tree isn’t bad. It has a pretty good mix of fruity and woody notes and I wouldn’t turn one down if it fell into my lap. I love the Boss idea of planting trees. They’re pretty popular, I think, so this is something I’d get behind if I knew anyone who wore these, but I don’t. It is a nice idea.

I wonder how would the Eau des Merveilles bottle look this year.

I was just at Sak’s and they had a limited edition of Eau des Merveilles that had a silver stars mobile thing in it. I think the bottle is the same and that was something included to hang up? Maybe it is something in the bottle. I’m not really sure.

65 euro for the EL? Probably $165 here. The prices we pay for perfumes here in New Zealand is really annoying.

I’m feeling grouchy about the prices we pay here. Like I wanted to get the Chanel no.19 a couple of weeks ago and it was $168 for 50 ml edt. Or was it 30 ml? Can’t quite remember. Either way, too much!

Whenever I see many limited edition/flankers for a fragrance that *just* came out (like the MaDame) it makes me think that the original isn’t selling well and they need some gimmick fast.

I think this is their 3rd or 4th collector bottle. But hard to say what that means — could be it’s doing well and they want to strike while the iron is hot?

I usually love the visual appeal of a bulb atomizer, but this looks… weird. The lined Sensuous bottle by its lonesome is lovely in its minimalism, the bulb on its own merits is a great plush purple and has great rococo-froufrou appeal, but the twain shall never meet. The combination looks like a sphinx gone wrong: the parts just don’t go together.

Wow. That is exactly how the bottle struck me, but I didn’t really know why. They don’t really go together. I have Guerlain’s Vetiver pour Elle which is in the Imperial Bee bottle, and it comes with a tiny bulb atomizer (along with a warning not to use it very much because of evaporation) and it looks wrong to me. I don’t know if the original had a bulb, but this one just looks wrong on that handsome bottle. The bulb atomizer bottle of Les Secrets de Sophie looks right because the bottle was designed to have it and has lots of other frou-frou touches. I love bulb atomizer, but I don’t have a single one (save the one mentioned above which I don’t use). Maybe I should just order a couple of empties to put out on my dresser. I can always fill them with coloured water or old perfumes that have already turned.
